The NFL Gets in Touch with Its Feminine Side

We never thought we'd see the words "football" and "nail art" in the same sentence

Nail art and the National Football League are not two things we would not instinctively put together -- like, say, chocolate and peanut butter -- but the NFL and Covergirl are banking on beauty-obsessed football fans making the fanicure happen. Yes, fanicure.

Covergirl, the newly appointed "official beauty sponsor" of the NFL, is kicking off its reign -- and football season -- with 32 bundles of Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss inspired by the logos of each team in the NFL. The 2- and 3-color sets are available at covergirl.com/NFL September 5 and include every color you need to show your game-day spirit.

A word of caution: there are no decals, just polishes. If you want to join the "nailgate" party (their words, not ours'), you'll have to recreate the official nail art at home. To help out the nail art challenged, Covergirl will post how-tos on their Pinterest board.

Truth: we're on board with this mostly because of the clever pitch. Words like "fanicure" and "nailgate"? Beauty comedy gold. Speaking of gold, in an informal office poll, fan status had little to do with the staff team color selection. Several editors chose the New Orleans Saints not out of team spirit, but because of the team's black-and-gold fleur de lis. Who dat!
