How To Color Damaged Hair

Learn how to color damaged hair with this helpful guide

We do many things to our hair on a daily basis, from exposing it to extreme weather conditions to using heat styling tools, but despite all this damage, many continue to color and style their hair as usual. This guide will show you how to color damaged hair without wreaking any further permanent damage to your hair. For starters, you want to avoid using bleach and peroxide, as these cause excess damage to hair, especially if your hair is already damaged. You may want to consider going a shade darker, as darker colors are healthier on hair than lighter ones, but if you must color damaged hair, go to a colorist who will know exactly how to color your hair with the least damage possible. You should also opt to apply a leave in conditioner one to two times a week for optimal repair. Read 8 Best Leave In Conditioners for a list of products that readers swear by.

You should also look into purchasing a semi permanent dye that is free of ammonia, as this will cause less damage than permanent dye solutions. You should also do a patch test before you color damaged hair, in order to make sure that you do not have an allergic reaction to the product or irritate your skin. Visit your salon for a deep conditioning treatment at least once a month, and do a hair mask a few times a week, either using a store bough product or whipping up your own hair mask at home with a variety of products such as olive oil and avocado. Semi-permanent doesn't lighten my hair enough. More of a dark blond than a light blond. Don't want to be platinum but I do like light blond with different tones throughout. Thanks for the information
