I'm searching for a good toothpaste. I need one that whitens, I have a few sensitive teeth, and i wear braces so I'm trying to avoid that tooth scarring or whatever it's called (cavities in the shape of the brackets).

For sensitive teeth, I've found Sensodyne to be good. As far as whitening, I don't know of any that actually does that, especially since I have coffee/tea stains! LOL If you haven't already asked your dentist, I'm sure he or she can recommend something. You may even get samples so you won't waste your money on something you don't like.

I've often wondered who has an easier time wearing braces: teens or adults? I'm among the adults-with-braces population. My parents couldn't afford to get me braces when I was growing up even though it was obvious from the time I was 13 that I needed them. Got them in February. My teeth already look straight, they're now just "settling" as my orthodontist put it.

My friend uses the Arm & Hammer whitening toothpaste. I recently noticed that his teeth were really white and asked if he was using Crest Whitestrips, and he said no, just the toothpaste. He drinks coffee a lot so I was surprised. I don't know if it's ok for sensitive teeth. He told me that the toothpaste didn't start working until recently though so you must have to keep up with it. Once my big tube of Aquafresh whatever I have runs out (in like a year probably) I'm going straight for the Arm & Hammer. On your teeth? weird, but works.

As far as my toothpaste hunt goes, I've also debated on using natural toothpastes, such as the ones from Kiss My Face. I also had to wear a "headgear" at bedtime, which was a pain, in both senses of the word. Glad to see braces work faster than they did when I was a kid....which was decades ago. LOL My boyfriend likes Tom's Natural Toothpaste. I don't know how it compares to other natural toothpaste though. BTW, he isn't on a search for whitening or anti-sensitivity toothpaste; I just wanted to mention he likes it. Around here, it is carried in Rite Aid, not just at health food stores or grocers like Trader Joe's. I agree with Lookitschloe, that Arm & Hammer toothpastes are great. I haven't tried their whitening stuff, but since their products are great in general, I'm sure it'll do something. I like the clean feeling the baking soda gives me.

I'm a former dental assistant and am very careful about my dental care. I'm currently using Crest Pro-Health and won't likely switch as long as they keep making it. I love the way my teeth feel and I have less sensitivity. I've used about all of a small tube of it so far and have a new one on standby and another small one in my overnight bag, since I travel often. Its claims: cavities, gingivitis, plaque, sensitivity, and tartarprotection, whitening, fresher breath. I love this stuff!
