(I started this topic)

My battle against acne is far from over. So far, I've tried some anti-acne products and they don't do anything. Since none of my friends have no experience (or don't care), I lack the information to decide on which anti-acne brands really work. I'd try all brands, but, as some of you know, buying many different products can be expensive. (Believe me, it happened to me.) Equate I've tried, but it can take a long time to see a difference. I've heard "good" commentary on Proactiv, but I don't exactly trust some reviews. Clean & Clear and Neutrogena anti-acne sets I've heard about, but where I live they're hard to find in stores. (And I have not idea why.) Also, I want to find reviews on it before I buy.

So, I turn to Totalbeauty members to find out. If you could give me your opinion on any of these brands I'd be very thankful.

I've tried Proactiv for about a year - it was just okay for me, nothing really special about it. Then I decided to try Murad - once again - nothing special. I got sick & tired of spending so much cash on these products & not seeing the results I was hoping for. And believe me, I was using them twice a day - just as they directed.
So finally, while at K-Mart I decided to try the Acne Free Kit which "claimes to be the same as Proactiv" The kit came with a face cleanser, toner, and treatment for a little under $20. Not too bad on my wallet. Within two weeks of using this kit I saw the results I wanted PLUS more. My blackheads were gone & my pores were smaller (I didn't get that with Murad/Proactiv). Acne Free has now become one of my holy grail products.
This is just my opinion, from my experiences. Good luck on your search ; hope you find something you are happy with! :)

http://www.acne.org That's where I finally went to see if I could solve my acne problem. I was on birth control to help with my skin (and no babies of course) and that helped a lot. but I still was having breakouts. Acne.org taught me that I wasn't using enough benzoyl peroxide. and not only was I not using enough, I was using a 10% version that was too harsh on my skin. I switched to Neutrogena's 2.5% version and they seemed to be the only brand with a lower percentage of BP. Secondly, I learned that I was not washing my face for long enough. Most women don't wash long enough I read and leave behind residue on their skin. I've read to use a gentle cleanser for 2 minutes. No harsh scrubbing but washing long enough to remove the gunk. and lastly, after using the BP, use a moisturizer!

My skin peeled a bit from the BP but after a few weeks it got used to the treatment and my acne went away. I still get zits but for the first time in years my skin was clear!

Check out the site:) Hope this helps!

Clean and Clear Advanced (or soemthing like that) gave me a very painful rash, I think it might have been too strong for my skin; I refuse to buy Proactiv because I've only talked to people who I KNOW personally that have used it and too many of them say it doesn't work. I like Neutorgena especially the Oil-Free Acne wash, but after about 3 months it stops working so I have to switch to something else. I've also tried Dr. Brandt pore minimizing kit, cost me $56 and a HOST of other products, & I've been on birth control, but yet the thing that seems to be working for me is a simple $2 bar of coco butter soap. I've starting drinking ALOT of water, I'm paying more attention to what I'm eating (cutting out the junk food) and I switched to mineral makeup. And you know what helps? Not Stressing over it. I've been to a few dermetologists and one of the main things they would tell me is not to stress (I rolled my eyes at then). But I've been doing this for about 5 weeks now and my skin is actually improving. I've had REALLY bad break outs over the past two years. I hope you find a solution that works for you.

i really dont think i have acne or severe acne
i get like 3 or 4 pimples on my forehead a month
i learn that ir u dont mess with them they would go away
faster, whell thats in my case, i mean i pop them once a wile and i stop squizze them because they would just get so bigger and mine
would get like marked like purpleish so i dont mess with it
i really dont burn brands becaure i think they all work for some kind of skin types. in my case i used clean and clear it did not work for me and it wasent just any scrub or something it was a acne control kit i think clean and clear works but u really have to now how to use the products now am using neutrogena advanced solutions complete acne therapy system it cost me 19 bucks at wal mart and it turn out to be working i think that if i learn how to use it well ill get a healthier lookong skin !!! i cant really say more about acne because i dont think i suffer from it but i hope i could have give u a berry good advice oh and wash ur face 3 times a day i do that they say that no more than too but i cleen myne more to get rid off the oil in my face and scrub with my clenser for about two minutes :) i also use a little more than warm water in my face i dont use proactive or acne free because they look so fake in the comersials not trying to say its bad my brother use it but am defenitive staying with neutrogena and i think that if u do have acne dont just get a clencer for the face !! get a full acne system a clencer then a moizteraizer then a night lotion eith benzoil peroxide and salicylid acid i think this two medications work well togather ! !! when ur taking a bath try to have more than warn water let the water rince on your face for like 10 minutes to open ur pores u want to now wut i do at nights ? if u have long hair in uf bangs or forehead get a rubber band ant tied together because hair have oil and sweat and oil causes acne or pimples

My favourite is Clinique by a mile. When I ran out I was a bit short of cash and so bought the Body Shop seaweed range instead, but while I love that seaweed exfoliator, the rest of the Body Shop seaweed range is really mediocre. There's just a couple of other brands I'm planning to try - Kiehl's, and Neal's Yard - and if they don't measure up to Clinique I'll be running back without a second thought.

Have you tried Arbonne's Clear Advantage acne set? It works great! My neice and her mom use it. My girlfriend at work loves it. And me & my husband use it. It contains 1% salicylic acid, which works best on all forms of acne. My girlfriend tried another brand when her Arbonne ran out and she was disappointed. She is now back to the Arbonne acne treatment. Visit my website: HealthySkinCareForAll.myarbonne.com to learn more, shop or browse the site. Email me at bambam2001@msn.com and I can let you know how to get 35% or more savings for all the fabulous Arbonne products!

I have been battling acne for as long as I can remember, started with the normal teenage acne, and continued on with adult acne, which of course needs to be treated differently. I used perscriptions (absent the big accutane which quite frankly scares me a little) and have tried various over the counter lines.

I used proactiv for a while and while it did help if I was downright religious about using it (Twice a day every day NO EXCEPTIONS!!) it ruined my sheets, towels, and washcloths with the benzol peroxide. So I looked for something else. I have used a few of the Clean and Clear products individually (spot treatment and dual action lotion) but havent tried the whole line. I personally have found my skin reacts better to salicylic acid treatments more so than BP, but everyone is different (I think the type of tap water in a given region affects our skin as well...my skin hated CA water!)

I know use arcona products. They are natural, so I don't get a lot of dryness or flaking, and they have made a huge difference. They are pricey, but after trying the tea tree mask on a recommendation I was sold. You can find them at drugstore.com and there are reviews there as well. I use the tea tree mask every other night, the AM acne lotion every morning with Tabula rasa for spot treatment, and the Solution and tabula rasa at night. There is also a cranberry gommage for an exfoliating wash (although I suspect any exfoliating wash would do the same) I use in the morning followed by Kiehl's Blue herbal gel face wash. My sheets and towel are the same colors as the day I bought them, and my skin is soft and generally blemish free. The bumps on my forehead are gone, and I only get a few pimples around that time of the month, which if I catch early, I use the tabula rasa and the swelling goes down, and it rarely results in a full zit!

I have found everyone is different, so you are doing the right thing by researching and getting reviews. Good luck!

Two of my sisters tried Proactiv and they both said it didn't do anything for them. I'll be honest, I haven't had acne until several months ago after I got off my birth control patch. Then my hormones went kind of haywire and I've been breaking out ever since. There's actually an article on here http://www.totalbeauty.com/content/flash/c_acne_treatments that shows some acne products and how well they did. I bought the tea tree oil face wash from The Body Shop. I had previously been using Cetaphil but it was too gentle for me. Tea tree oil seems to be the rage recently. I think it helps, I've only gotten a few zits since I started using it. The 2.5% BP by Neutrogena really helps too, and it's cheap ($5-$6 at Target) so I'm not afraid to pile it on. I also started drinking tons of water (8 cups) about a month ago in an effort to curb break outs. So, tea tree oil face wash, tons of water, benzoyl peroxide, moisturizer (I use The Body Shop's Tea Tree Oil moisturizer for blemishes and scars where I need it and then cheaper Clean & Clear moisturizer where I don't have breakouts, like my cheeks), oh plus trying some different birth control pills (Yaz did nothing for me, did it for three months with no results; going to get Zovia in two weeks), I really hope my skin clears soon; I'm tired of my face hurting :(
