Avon has a great skin regimine that you all should look into, it is similar to the Proactiv but is less money, and has a better outcome.
If interested please view my site YourAvon.com/CConnor. Feel free to ask me any questions.

Total Effect Soothing Serum is excellent for acne. It actually has an anit-inflammatory ingredient and is great for skin lighting.. I use the serum twice a day, but apply the serum to my breakouts a few times during the day..... The serum takes the red out of the acne in just a few hours and clears it up by the next day... if not by that evening.

CLINIQUE CLINIQUE CLINIQUE!!!!

I swear by their 3-step acne system. Their product slogan is "kill them [pimples] with kindness." This couldn't be more true. I get compliments on my skin all the time, and this stuff never gives me discomfort.

Before I found the clinique products, I tried almost EVERYTHING, I kid you not. My skin was so bad that the kids at school would make fun of me. Even my father was always buying new stuff to help me out.

I tried drugstore items such as:
*stridex (stings)
*zapzit (horrible horrible rash!)
*clean & clear (didn't seem to do anything)
*neutrogena (didn't seem to do anything)
*physoderm (just made my skin dry)
*equate/CVS/Walgreens brands (didn't seem to do anything)
*clearasil (didn't seem to do anything)
*acne-free (didn't seem to do anything)

Then I went to the dermatologist, he prescribed some creams that were horrible. The nurse warned me things would get worse before improving, but they just seemed to go downhill all the way. I mean, I can understand having a bad reaction to medicine for a couple of weeks, but when you have used up a full-size container for a product and your skin is constantly itching and burning...I don't think it is worth keeping. Needless to say, I did not return to the doctor.

PROACTIV
Okay so I thought this was like...THE STUFF because Jessica Simpson endorsed it (haha silly advertising). I'm happy to say that it worked for a long time, but it smelled funky. After awhile I believe I got immune to it because it stopped working. But I got compliments all the time. Then it just got to be a hassle when it came time to order it.

CLINIQUE!!!!!!!
So one day I was with someone at the clinique counter, and the lady introduced me to the product, and I was EXTREMELY SKEPTICAL, but I decided to give it a try. I've never used anything since. It is the best ever.

Just wanted to add that all of the above was over the course of 6 years. I have been using the clinique for a year now.

I've also tried many products over the years. I believe I'm still searching my favorites. But I wanted to know if any others have experienced what I have with some of these products. I tried Proactiv for a few weeks and took it back for the 60 money back gaurantee. You know why? Not because it "just did nothing for me..." but my face broke out in hives, and my eyes were swollen shut. I later realized that while this product may work for some people, I am allergic to the product ingredient, Benzoyl Peroxide. In fact, I can't use any products containing BP. So, I mainly stick to products that contain Salicylic Acid, which is more gentle. I like products that actually have a higher concentration of the ingredient SA.

Since reading the messages, I'm curious to try the Body Shop Tea Tree Oil as well as Clinique. In terms of drugstore brands, I usually remain loyal to the following: Olay (Cleansers/Moisturizers), Aveeno (Radiance/SPF Moisturizers--THE BEST!!), St. Ives (Apricot Scrubs--medicated), Clean & Clear has great moisturizers (i love the oil-free).

Right now, if I need to do a mask 1-2x per week, I'm diggin' Murad's sulfur mask.

I am in my early 40's and still suffer from acne, especially the cystic type which is very difficult to deal with. I have used Proactiv and found it to be a life saver. After the first month I noticed a difference and within 6 months it was as if I had never had an acne problem. Proactiv isn't as expensive as alot of products and the money you do spend is really worth it. I really recommend using the White Tea moisturizer along with the basic 3 pc. routine. It absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy feel and doesn't lead to more breakouts like many moisturizers can do. Good luck I know how frustrating it can be.

You may have already done this, but have you seen a dermatologist? You'd get a prescription that might initially cost more than an OTC treatment, but it'd be cheaper in the long run than trying all those other products.

Well my two cents is that I've always been loyal to Neutrogena since high school. They make a gel with salicylic acid (not sure of spelling) which I find gentler than benzoyl peroxide and more effective. I don't like anything with sulfur in it due to the awful odor. As a teenager, I used Oxy 5 and Clearisil. They worked then, but now I'm 46 and the occasional adult acne I get is not bad enough for stuff that strong. I think Neutrogena's gel is called something like Clear Pore Acne Gel...sorry I don't have it with me at the moment but I'm sure it is on this site or you'll recognize it at the store. It's in a white and reddish/orange tube.

i suffered from cystic acne. I tried drug store brands, pro-active, lancome, clinique, retin-A etc.
When I started a new regimen I was always told 8-12 weeks before really noticing and sometimes it got worse before it got better if it evern got better. Then I heard about Beauty Society products. Okay so not on the cheap side, but the kicker is...if it didn't work in 12 MONTHS I could send it back and get a refund. I bought it and used it and the drama free brought up all the abd stuff in my skin, brought it up and got it OUT. I haven't looked back and I've never returned anything.

I'm only 13 and haven't tried a huge variety of brands, but I've been lucky enough to find some really good (and not too expensive!) products that have done wonders for my complexion. (For reference --- > I have fair/light skin which is sensitive and burns easily. I don't suffer from blackheads very often, but occasionally I'll get a huge, painful whitehead or an itchy red pimple, usually on my nose/cheeks.)

(neutrogena.com) I tried their Acne Stress Control line and loved it. I'm currently using the power-clear scrub and the 3-in-1 hydrating acne treatment ($12 each at my local Shoppers Drugmart), and let me tell you, they're miracles in a tube. The scrub gently exfoliates with a fresh scent and it leaves my face feeling clean and very refreshed (there's menthol in it, which leaves cools wonderfully). I was a little nervous about the spot treatment, since others I'd tried dried out my skin and irritated it. But the soothing ingredients in this one (cucumber & green tea) really help; I barely notice any irritation. And best of all, if I put this on at night, the pimple is dramatically smaller/less red by the next morning and if I reapply then and when I get back from school, the pimple vanishes.

I use Clean and Clear's SOFT in-shower facial weekly and it makes my skin smooth and soft; and their oil-free night moisturizer is also really good.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention -- the neutrogena spot treatment works super-well on red pimples and blackheads, but it takes a long time on whiteheads. I use the Body Shop Tea Tree oil on whiteheads and get great results fast :)

I tried proactive and it really didn't do anything, unfortunately. But then I gave it to my friend and she's had great success with it .... maybe it works better for some skin types than others?

And if you need a concealer, Benefit's galactic shield is AMAZING. It's like a spot treatment on it's own -- it blasts pimples with 2% salicylic acid while providing foolproof coverage. It was pretty expensive, though ... so if you can't afford it, I've heard good things about the Clinique concealers.
