Ew, it looks like I'm starting to see some green spider-type veins appear close to the surface of my thighs, I'm hoping this doesn't mean that they'll be full fledged varicose veins in the next few years. Does anyone know if there's anything that can be done to prevent ugly veins from getting worse short of salt injections or vein removal (cringing as I write "removal" because the thought gives me the heebee jeebees!)

Not to worry, but veins are hereditary. Self-tanner works wonders, but to prevent more veins from breaking off to the surface of the skin, wear support panty hose, a surgical grade if you can. There's a form of sclerotherapy that is wonderful and it's not saline but a foam that was perfected by Dr. Mitchell Goldman out of La Jolla, CA. He's know as the "Godfather" of veins! You need a vascular surgeon for this and when you make an appt, be sure that they do not use saline. You can find more info online, but I've had this problem for years, I'm 56, and wear skirts all the time due to this new solution. I'm going for a "touch-up" in early spring as the veins are permanently removed, but you develop new ones all the time. I last had sclerotherapy two years ago. I find it well worth the money. Simply walking also helps circulation. If you have more questions, I'll be happy to post more info. I'd make a consult appt. at a "vein clinic" and have a specialist look at you and give you an informed opinion. Varicose veins and broken veins/ capallaries are two different maladies...I wouldn't worry about either as they can be remedied thru sclero or a laser for this red ones on your ankles and knees.
