Now that the weather is warming up, I shave everyday. I need to being that my hair is black and grows pretty fast. The problem: I get what I call "razorburn" on the bottom portion of my legs! It's so frustrating, I'd like to wear capris but I can't because I have these red irritated bumps on my legs. Does anyone have a suggestions on what I can do to alleviate this problem?

have you tried letting it heal then exfoliate b4 shaving, and then shaving with care? and if your skin is not too sensitive try nair. then moisturise afterward. i try to keep my legs moisturized often.

I know exactly what you mean. All I can suggest is make sure your blade is sharp (most of us don't replace our blades as often as we should), exfoliate well before shaving, shave lightly, and use a super conditioning shave lotion or oil. If it's really bad, you can always try shaving with the hair growth, versus against it, but I always found that I'd end up having to shave twice a day if I did that.

Or, try a different way of removing hair. Nair is an excellent idea. I use an epilator that I absolutely swear by.

Thanks Retrodiva!
Does Nair really work though? I've tried over the counter products like Nair that haven't done anything for me at all! I have some what thick dark hair. So even when I do shave in the morning, I feel stubble by the end of the day. So let's talk about the Epilator, what exactly is it? And how does it work? I read a review about Nads Hair Removal. Has anyone heard anything good or bad on this product? I'm in desperate need of something! ;->

If you can, go a few days to let the bumps heal, then before you have, use a body scrub with salicylic acid in it (I use Nuetrogena's Clear Body Scrub, it works great.) The acid helps clear out the oils and dead skin cells that get trapped in there and create the bumps (think of pimples.) Then from there out, use it every time AFTER you shave. Use a shave cream that has moisturizers and isn't made with soap-this will dry out your skin and make it more easily irritated. And make sure your changing your blades regularly. That's another big cause of irritation and bumps.

I didn't have good luck with Nads at all, but it was probably user error - waxing isn't my talent.

Nair really does work - you have to make sure you leave it on long enough and follow the directions carefully. I usually wash it off too soon because I'm antsy and want to move on, and find that it didn't take everything off the way I wanted it to. But with enough time, it works great.

I read somewhere that Nair type products are actually encouraged for people with ingrown hairs because razors leave a sharp edge that, when it curls, is more apt to pierce the skin, creating an ingrown hair. I did find that using Nair (or doing anything but shaving) drastically helped reduce my ingrown hairs - and I had a LOT of them.

Good luck!
