(I started this topic)

Hi everyone:

I find myself pinching pennies these days. It's taking a toll on my beauty snags. Anyone else feeling the effects of the recession in their makeup bag?

Not yet, but you know what they say: when there is a recession women buy more lipstick. I have no idea if that's true, but I hope not. I have too many lipsticks as it is!

not yet for me either. Just yesterday I bought 3 new lipglosses and 2 blushes from MAC & Bobbi Brown. All of that would fill my gas tank at least once...lol

I've definitely been thinking twice before I purchase something lately. Not that it's stopped me from continuing to acquire makeup!

It really hasn't affected me...yet. I do remember a few years ago when I was in HS and my dad lost his job I had to go from wearing department store makeup to wearing drugstore makeup, but even then I wasn't wearing the cheap drugstore makeup.

I have felt the pinch in my night creams and moisturizers; however, I will pinch all the pennies to buy my favs for makeup :)
Beauty is expensive.
Oh yeah and I went from blond to brunette for multiple reasons; mostly because my hair was breaking, but not to mention the cost!

Luckily I haven't. I have restricted myself more from purchasing more products since I already have about 2 years supply- at least- of makeup from all the "gifts w/ purchases." Of course I just purchased ANOTHER shampoo and conditioner today (was on sale so it got my attention). I do try to cut corners elsewhere to make certain I can still purchase some of my favorite beauty products or from some favorite lines. I have also started exploring some "drugstore" brands as well lately. Some things I have tried to do to stick within my budget:
- I like lipstick and lipgloss the most, so I continue to go to a department store for those; especially since I can get help there searching for shades that compliment my skin tone.
- I always stick with neutrals for eyeshadows, just I am comfortable getting those from a drugstore. Ditto for eyeliner and mascara.
- I am comfortable obtaining some skin care products from a drugstore as well, or even Avon. I may still splurge on a department store moisturizer or face serum since I figure those stay on my face and will be more beneficial.
- For hair products , I like some salon and some drugstore ones. I use both, but I try to stock up on the salon ones when they are on sale.

no,the recession has not effected me.i have always been and will always be a product junkie.i only work 6 miles from where i live so i fill my tank every 2.5 weeks.my hubby car pools so the price of gas is not really an issue..i do find myself doing alot more on line shopping at sephora then b4..our mall is very close to home too, which is good for me because, among other things,i am also a pocketbook and shoe junkie.if necessary i would most likely take a 2nd job rather then cut down on my shopping..anyway..i feel it is my duty as an american citizen to do my best to help the economy, which means alot of extra shopping!!

I've definately cut back on my beauty purchases due to the economy, and the fact that we're saving for the wedding. Whenever I find myself wanting a certain item I always stop and ask myself if I really need it.
I'm trying to use up what I already have and save a few bucks for gas. It all adds up - especially when I'm driving 25 miles to and from work each day.
