Hi everyone, I am 62 years old and live paycheck to paycheck. My hair is very fine, thinning, and wavy. It is about neck length and also layered (on the top and sides). I really would like to get the "bob" look like Katie Holmes but have never in my life used a straightening iron and for more than a year - I have not even used my blow dryer. Instead, I just "scrunch" it to get some sort of curl and style and let it dry naturally. I am really not now nor was I ever good working with hair (never owned a round brush in my life). So, I am seeking advice on a hair straightener most definitely in the $30 or less range, one that I could purchase easily either over the Internet or drugstore like Duane Reade, Walgreens, Rite Aide (I am not near a Target or Walmart) or possibly Macy's - and most important of all - a straightener that will not burn my hair or thin it out worse than what is happening now. I have read about 5 to 10 pages of the reviews on this website and it seems like Conair or Revlon might work for me but my layers are really short which is another reason I am seeking advice. I thank you in advance for any help you can offer. By the way, I live in New York City.

So I know you said you wanted to spend around $30, but if you spend $30 more you can get one comparable to the CHI (professional quality straightener). Click on this link (Sally Beauty Supply) www.sallybeauty.com/gvp-flat-iron/GVP01,default,pd.html?cgid=Hair09-06 and check it out. I've had mine for over 2 years, and it still works great. I do have normal, also above shoulder lengt, straight hair and this flat iron works great for me. Plus, you get a one year manufacturer warranty with it, plus you can buy an additional warranty from Sally's (for only $8.99). Or you can check out the mini one they have for $29.99. Because you live in New York, I would click on the store locater to see if there is one close to your home or you can order it online! Hope this helps! Good luck!
