High End Vs Drugstore?

The problem with both drugstore and a lot of high-end brands is that they all contain lots of nasty chemicals that can actually do more damage to your hair (and the environment!) than good. Sulfates and parabens are the particularly bad things to watch out for and they show up in every kind of drugstore product, even the expensive or so-called "natural" ones.
Juice Organics and Nutra-Lift are lines that are pricey but perform well without the sulfates, etc.

I used to use any drug store brand that I could and then my mom got me hooked on Paul Mitchell. Once on that, I couldn't go back. I recently tried another drug store brand and it really dried out my hair to the point that I could wash it once a week. After that, my niece had me try Aveda and now I won't use anything else. Now, my hair is very manageable and looks great with out being dried out.

For me I still cannot tell which is better. I do agree though that you should use whatever works best for not only your hair but also your scalp and of course you! For me I want to find a shampoo/conditioner from the same brand. I have thick wavy/curly kinky blond hair, and it gets dry easily. So it is hard to find something that claims it will solve all of my needs, but doesn't deliver the results. So far I have been using Bumble & Bumble super rich conditioner, and that has been working very well thus far. I just don't like the price I have to fork out for it though :(

As a hair dresser I would have to say High End is always better. We did experiments with different drugstore brands in school who had such high acid content that you could perm someone's hair with it! I don't know about you but that doesn't sit well with me. The same with drugstore color...the ammonia content is so high in those so they will work on "everyones" hair that it is very damaging!

Wow I had no idea about the drug store brands. But which salon brands would you recommend though?

i HAVE USED ALMOST EVERY SHAMPOO PRODUCT OUT THERE. DRUGSTORE BRANDS ARE JUST AS GOOD , SOME EVEN BETTER THAN SALON TYPES. THE BEST SHAMPOOS ARE ONES THAT HAVE NO SULFATES AND PARABENS. SAMY MAKES THE BEST HAIR CARE LINE AND IT IS SO RESONABLE ITS NUTS!! ALSO,JASON SKIN AND HAIR PRODUCTS ARE AWESOME!! I USE CAMOMILE SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER FROM JASON AND MY NATURAL BLONDE HAIR IS SOFT AND SHINY. ALL NATURAL PRODUCTS.

i have to say that for the many years i've used drugstore brands vs high end and both can be good choices.

My friend (with healthy hair) always used high end products. when she lost her job she started using suave and her hair looked better and had a lot of growth.

my mom always used prell when i was a kid and her hair was thick and long. my hair was even healthier, longer and stronger.

i currently use the moroccanoil products and love them. but i also use my stand-bys herbal essence and from the pantene products i've used, i like them too.

i just keep experimenting as long as my budget allows.

All shampoo is a sham! All most all contain sulfates which is basically washing with Dawn dish detergent.

Why pay to strip your hair of the good oil and pay more to put it back!

Read the Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey.

You don't have to be curly to get any benefit from it. It has alot of common sense advice for everyone!
