Microdermabrasion - good or bad?

I discovered at-home microdermabrasion products a few years ago and tried a few (Dr Brandt, Patricia Wexler) and loved the results - my skin is so much smoother and better looking. However, I recently got a facial and the esthetician told me not to use these types of products because they aren't good for your skin. She told me it was making it too dry (even though I use an ultra-hydrating serum after) and therefore causing an increase in oil production. If microdermabrasion isn't good for your skin, how can so many companies sell the product? Is microdermabrasion really bad, or is it good?

I have heard a lot of "opinions" and points of view from alot of people in my 42yrs. one thing I have learned is ... if it feels good, do it. If you have not notice any drying or increase in oiliness then it maybe just an opinion or maybe it is drying to some and not to others.

I agree with ProudCurlyGirl. I have just turned 40 and have been doing facial peels and microderm abrasion for a few years now. I love them. Microderm abrasion helps us get rid of old dead skin cells and forces our bodies to produce new skin. New skin is definitely a GOOD thing. If your skin has improved then clearly you are benefiting from this procedure. You are your own best judge:)
