Hi all pretty new to the boards here but have a question. We have a Sephora store here in my area and now Ulta is coming to the area in a brand new mall they are building. My question is how do they compare? I have never been to an Ulta Salon before since this will be the first one in this area and was wondering if any of you have been to both an Ulta and a Sephora. Sephora is great but the prices are outrageous and quite frankly the people that work there are scary looking. Most have 6 layers of make up on!!!! I went on Ulta's website and did see that they offer salon services which Sephora (at least the one in my area does not) but was wondering if they sell mostly the same products at the same outrageous prices, etc. Would like to hear from anyone who has shopped or been to both places. thanks so much...Cheryl

There are pro and cons to both stores. Ulta carries some of the major makeup brands that are found in department stores along with drug store brands. They also have a nice selection of hair care products and fragrance. The last thing they offer is an in store salon. Sephora carries a large selection of makeup brands and fragrance. They only carry a few hair care lines but do have plenty of accessories for cosmetics. The cons for Ulta would be a small selection of cosmetic lines, hair care and fragrance. The cons for Sephora would be the small selection of hair care lines and no salon services. They both are nice stores and have unique qualities that are positive. I have been to both and have found good and bad in each. Hope this helps.

In my opinion i like Sephora better but they are both very good. most people thinkk that ulta has way better prices but if you look sephora has some steals. Ulta has more hair care, accessories, and skincare along with makeup while Sephora has more of the perfume and makeup. I am not a frequent shopper at either of them though because when i need something i usually just stop by walgreens or CVS. :D hope i helped!

I like Sephora much better, but I don't like very many products from drugstore brands that they would have at Ulta. For the brands that both stores carry, I would say they are comparable in selection, but what the other reviewer said above is true too about what each store carries.

thank you all for your responses the Ulta store opened a few wks ago and I see the difference now between them an Sephora. thanks for all your help. Cheryl

cheryl57 so which one do u like better? i love sephora! ulta to me just does not have much in it. i guess cause it all drug store brands.

Actually, I don't prefer one or the other. Sephora has some things I use that Ulta does not sell and vice versa. Ulta seems to be just a high end overpriced fancy drugstore. They have tons of body products and shampoos, etc. but they are outrageous in prices just like Sephora is. I do like that Ulta has sales and coupons which I have never seen at Sephora.
