Does anyone have any suggestions? I've tried a bunch but find that they leave my nails jagged and leave that thin underlayer sticking out. I want a nail file that I can use and then run my fingers along fabric without snagging!

I suggest trying a glass file. Sephora, Essie and Sally Hansen La Cross all make glass files. They are a finer grit so they seal the edges better and they last a long time. Also, try holding your file at a 45 degree angle on an incline when you file. It will help prevent underlayer problem.

I get my glass files online at http://www.aboutglassnailfiles.com/ They are cheap and ship fast. Plus you can get a personalize file with your name. A buddy got me one in green with my name on it. :)

Thank you! It will be great to have smooth nails that don't snag!

Thanks so much for the info! Always wondered if glass files were better. I file weekly, since long natural nails take a lot of maintenance... and now a good file! Yay! :)

Oh, and are the different types listed on the site about the same, or is the difference just in appearance? Thanks again :)

After years of nail abuse, I am trying to grow my nails. Thanks for the glass file advice. Great tip -- pun intended.

I will have to try those too. I've been using the 4 way buffers to help deal with when my nails end up jagged and they work great.

I'm a recent glass file convert, thanks to alllaqured up. :) It really does make a huge difference.
