I wasn't into make-up at all until I was at least 14-15, and even through high school, I only wore eyeliner, and sometimes shadow. Everyone always thought I wore blush and powder anyway because of my fair skin and rosy cheeks. :) For a long time I was very anti-feminine, though. Rebellious stage, haha.

I was 10 when I first tried makeup, I learned how to apply the eyeliner from a friend of mine. We used those red stick liners that were made for your eyebrows. I remember heating the end of it and applying it to my eyes. lol I don't think that I used fountation till I was in 8th or 9th grade. I lived with my Dad and he was pretty lenient on me wearing makeup, I never went crazy with it though, I always felt like I was doing it wrong, I never liked the results that I got.It wasn't till I was an adult and found the right makeup that I started an obsession with it. When my daughter was 12 she showed an intrest in it and I had no problems as long as she didn't wear the cheap makeup. I told her if she was gonna wear it, then she would wear the good stuff and I would show her the right way to do it. I'm not a big fan of girls wearing full face makeup, I think that it should be natural looking. I didn't allow my daughter to wear eyeliner till she was 15 and if she put it on too thick I made her wipe it off and start over again.

I've loved make up since a young age. I used to love watching my mom put her make up on. And it was always a huge thrill for me when she let wear some of her lipstick. She started me off slowly when I was old enough to start wearing make up. At first, I could wear blush and lipgloss, then I got to wear powder foundation and eyeshadow. Then came eyeliner and mascara. By the time I entered the 9th grade, I was good to go. I liked that I gradually got to wear things instead of all at once. Little girls should look like little girls, not like 16-year-olds. It actually makes me sad when I see a little girl all done up in make up. It's kind of like they're so anxious to be grown up that they totally miss out on being a little kid. I mean, I had restrictions on my make up but I never felt like my mom was being unreasonable or overly strict. I appreciated that there was a transition period for me between little girl and adolescent. It made me feel like I didn't have to grow up in a hurry.

My mom was very strict about makeup when I was young, but once I got in to high school she let me do my own thing -- as long as it looked natural and it flattered me. I remember trying a "smokey eye" technique for the prom during my sophomore year and she made me wash it all off and do something less intense haha. I remember painting my nails when I was 7 and I chose this olive dark green color...gross! But at the time I thought it was cool. I was only allowed to wear powder until I was 13, and then I was allowed to wear eyeshadow but NO eyeliner!!! Around the time I turned 15 she let me loose haha. I do wear a full face of makeup now, but I only apply it lightly and I don't wear many bold colors.

I think Im a little older than most of you girls and therefore grew up in a slightly different situation. When I was a little girl ladies wore, in general more makeup than they do now. Because of that, my mom started me very early, teaching me and encouraging me, but not letting me wear makeup on a daily basis until I was 13. By then I was something of an expert and since then I have been a makeup lover. I remember a line from a B movie when I was a teenager...there was some knd of terrible event about to happen and two ladies were waiting for it together. They share a lipstick in these dire circumstances, daintily putting it on using a compact mirror. On of them, during this, says to the other: "Isnt it interesting that when men need courage, they turn to a bottle, but when women need courage, they turn to their lipstick." That line had an impact on me as a little girl, and I seed that tendency in myself to this very day. I feel naked without my lipstick.

Sixth grade. Just mascara, ligloss and maybe blush as well. Towards the end of the year i started trying eyeshadow, tinted moisturizer, and eyeliner. I hate wearing a ton of makeup though. I still keep it light.

I'm like Diane a little older than most here. Mother started letting me wear makeup when I was in the 8th grade, even though I'm a guy I have alwayed loved wearing makeup, my mother was good enough to under stand my desire and helped me so much with learning all about makeup and hair. As a very femine male I never leave home without my hair and makeup done
