One thing my hair stylist told me is that if you notice thinning hair around your part, it means that your scalp is being damaged from the sun. So, try moving your part around and definitely avoid letting it get sun burnt.

I have recently gone to battle with hair loss and won - at 42 years old! Here are some things I have been doing. It has been a lot and to tell you the truth I am not sure what is giving the results but I have bee completely bent on growing hair so I am planning to continue with all of it until the day I die.

-Every other morning I use a follicle stimulating shampoo from Earthfare called Lama Chines Herb. I only use conditioner on the other days.

-Every morning and night I use the Costco brand, (fairly cheap), of Minoxidil at night. I blow my hair dry not too long after I put it on, and use the sam styling products I always have.

- I take Purvana, a hair vitamin, a multi vitamin, and an extra vitamin loaded with B's. At some times I have added in some minerals that are supposed to help with hair growth, but that seemed to make my hair growth come in darker at the root which was aggravating, since I am a blonde. I am also taking some collagen supplements, but I really do not know whether to recommend these or not - got them at Costco and not sure if they are actually doing anything. Truly believe in the Purvana and Minoxidil though!

-Get regular trims - very important

Hope this helps!

There are shampoos like Provoxyl which add more volume to thinning hair and also help to stimulate the scalp to encourage healthy hair growth. If you have subjected your hair to regular harsh treatments like highlights, perms, etc, this can damage your hair and lead to hair loss. Hair loss can also take place due to hormonal changes, poor nutrition, or experiencing trauma. Check out the possible reasons for your hair loss. Provoxyl can help to help hair appear thick and fuller, with more body and shine!

I know this thread is a little old but I've decided to pass along my experience anyway.

Hair loss isn't always just about hair and scalp. This could be a serious health issue. My advice to anyone who is experiencing hair loss is to go to your doctor and have a blood test done. There are several illnesses and diseases out there that can cause hair loss - and many of them don't have symptoms that are really noticeable.

For example, in 2006 I went in to see my doctor because I'd noticed that my hair was shedding more than usual. I also felt more fatigued than usual (but I just wrote it up to stress from work) and my metabolism was a little slow. I didn't really think the last 2 symptoms were a big deal until my doctor brought them up. As it turns out, I have hypothyroidism. My thyroid is under active which causes hair loss, fatigue, slowing of metabolism, and more. If it goes untreated, you could develop a goiter and have to have surgery. After being on the meds for about 3 weeks, my hair stopped shedding so much and I felt much better. This isn't just a menopausal woman's disease like so many people believe. I was 21 when I was diagnosed.

If the tests come back okay, then I would look into other remedies. Just make sure first as these remedies won't help you if your hair loss is related to something else entirely.

Hair loss shouldn't be taken lightly. Here's a great article
http://tinyurl.com/mlenjr
There are many causes of shedding, from stress to chemotherapy, but 90 percent of hair loss is genetic and needs to be treated with medication. It can also be a sign of a thyroid disorder, says my endocrinologist, Dr. Emilia Liao, who diagnosed me with mild hypothyroidism.
