(I started this topic)

Hello all,

I'm new here. Found this site when looking for home made face masks, and I got to say I am impressed with the whole site. :-)

Now, I'm 50 yrs old, used to be a farming girl and apart from slapping on a bit of Astral cream in the morning, never really bothered with skin care. Make up - yes, but skin care no. And am I paying for it now!

I have tried L'Oreal deep wrinkle creams, Garnier, and Avon (well I'm not rolling in money, my wealthy cousin suggested Del Mer or somthing but the price! wow), but still the wrinkles get deeper.

My complexion is ruddy, and I have inherited my dad's under eye bags (huge ones) and red spider veins on my cheeks.

Anyone got any tips on good creams or any advise at all? I don't expect to look like Madonna, of course.... in my dreams :-)

Thanks

Droops

I don't seem to have much luck with the drugstore brands either, but a lot of people do seem to really like the Olay Pro X line. It was a little harsh for my skin though, but I can be very sensitive. Have you tried any Lancome products? Their High Resolution Eye Collaser 5x is a serum you could try for dark circles, and use it under a less expensive drugstore eye cream for added moisture. It's $59 and has nearly completely "cured" my dark circle problem, and it was bad!
I recommend trying to find a cream with niacin in it for red broken capillaries. Currently I use Canyon Ranch's serum with niacin and that too has done miracles. It is spendy though - $150. I am not aware of any other lesser expensive brands with niacin in it, but now you've got me curious! I'll have to do a little research.
I do think that since serums are more concentrated formulas you can get more bang out of the product and then use a lesser expensive product for a moisturizer on top.
I talk a lot about skincare for women over 40 and have a Beauty on a Budget column as well. You may find something there that catches your interest. www.faboverforty.com and good luck!

I love the products by BeautiControl. They are formulated to be aged based and work on the areas of concern that you may have. The skincare is amazing, I have been using it now for 7 years. I would totally recommend them! They are concentrated to last 4 to 6 months. Depending on how much you use. I saw results in a few days. Like you I didn't use any type of skincare regularly and I have found that this works for me. Just let me know if you want to know more about them.

The best thing you can do for your skin is ask your Dr for Renova. Renova is the ONLY FDA approved product proven to get rid of wrinkles. If you only have enough cash to get a couple things, you should go with what is absolutely proven to work. It will cost you anywhere from $125-150 for a tube and you have to have a script from the Dr. It will last you 6 months if you are careful and it works. I am a religious user. I would give up everything else before I gave up Renova.

I have to put my two cents in! You don't have to spend a fortune. Being out in the sun can show signs of aging faster. But I’m sure since you’ve been on a farm for most of your life, you’ve had good nutrition and plenty of exercise! That’s good for your skin! There are some excellent topical creams available that help reduce fine lines, wrinkles and discoloration. I would suggest you look for nutritional products like DaySkin, which contains Vitamin E. Vitamin E helps to absorb UV rays and protect the skin from sun damage. Vitamin B3 promotes the production of collagen and elastin which helps to keep skin from sagging. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are the only two ingredients which help protect against both UVA and UVB rays. All these nutrients helps for anti aging! Good luck!

Moisturize from the inside out and make sure you wear sunscreen from now on. Get a moisturizer with sunscreen in it so you won't forget.
I have really bad dark undereye circles (genetic) and have had really good luck with the yellowish concealer from LA Minerals. I'm betting it would hide your spider veins too. Only thing is a little goes a REALLY LONG WAY. So be careful and apply with a small brush. THeir samples lasted me a long time before I ordered more.
As far as skin care goes....I use a sea mineral spritz/toner from Essential Wholesale, and their Premium Concentrate cream as a moisturizer. They have really good natural products and samples too!
Hope this helps you some;)

I would suggest a good sunscreen with a SPF of 15 to 30 for your face and an SPF of 50 or higher for the body. Sunscreen prevents not only skin cancer but helps with wrinkles which most are caused by the sun and start wearing a hat. Avoid being out in the sun for long periods of time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. when the sun is at its highest strength. If you must be out at that time, sunscreen and hat. Also use sunscreen on cloudy and rainy days as the rays still come through also if you live in an area were is snows, the sunscreen is still a MUST for any exposed areas as the sun's rays bounces off the snow. As to the other things, I would suggest talking to your dermatologist. I would also suggest getting a yearly body scan for skin cancer and moles. Good luck.

So many wrinkle products out there yet not many of them seem to work as expected.

Here's my tip to prevent wrinkles and fine lines.

Rosemary and lemon juice homemade facial recipe

Rosemary is a cleansing, stimulating and restorative herb which is excellent for wrinkle prevention and dehydrated skin. It can also prevent fine lines that appear as you are aged and aids skin elasticity.

Ingredients:
* 1 Lemon
* Some rosemary leaves
* 1/2 cup of cold sake or soju. Vodka may work but I’m not certain.
* 1/2 cup Sprite or 7 Up or Sierra Mist
* 1 tsp honey
* Glass bowl

Directions for Homemade Rosemary Lemon Juice Toner:
1. lemon-rosemary-shineWash the lemon and slice it into 4 parts including the lemon skin.
2. Wash rosemary leaves.
3. Mix 1/2 cup liquor, 1/2 cup Sprite and 1 tsp of honey in a glass bowl.
4. Add the lemon pieces and rosemary leaves.
5. Leave for 3-7 days at room temperature.
6. After 3-7 days, open the lid and check whether the alcohol odor has weakened. By using a strainer or coffee filter, pour out the contents into a container.
7. Keep in refrigerator and use as a toner in your skin care routine.

Warning:
Due to lemon’s photo sensitivity characteristic, keep the mix in a place which isn’t under direct sunlight. Keeping it in a brown container to make it even better.

Hope this helps!

Hello All,

I live in Arizona and am having the same issues. I just turned 40 and have fair, sensitive Irish skin. I was never shown how to do skin care and being really busy & frugal I never spent a lot of $ on prevention products. However, after having my first child at 23 I got Melasma and it has got progressively worse.... I now have a perfect mask. Due to this I cake on the make-up to cover it (which doesn't completely cover it) and am paying the price. My skin is bad because of the dry climate, stress, poor diet and excessive makeup and lack of funds to experiment w/different products. I did save up and see a dermotologist, got a glycolic peel and was prescribed Tri-Luma. It didn't work and only made my patches darker.....there goes $160 (cream only). I am extremely self-conscious of my melasma and any advice that you ladies can offer for the wrinkles and melasma would be really appreciated. My make-up routine is Aveeno Moisturizer (derm. recommended) w/spf and Loreals Tru Match make-up and powder. I do like the make-up but my face is oily w/in the hour and am constantly blotting face and re-applying powder.

Just curious though if any food allergies can cause dark patches (hey, there's not such thing as a stupid question.... right?)?

I have just turned 40. The best advice I can give you is try a facial acid peel and microderm abrasion. This while help loosen all of 'the glue' that is holding onto a lot of old skin cells. Microderm abrasion after the peel will deeply exfoliate your face removing all of the loosened layers. This not only will help minimize wrinkles and smooth out your complexion, it will force your body to start making new layers of skin as we are born with a pre-determined amount. Your body will take an 'inventory' and notice the face is short a few layers :) New skin is a good thing. Start cleansing,moisturizing and repairing now. In a very short time you will notice a HUGE difference. If you are interested in the products I have been using I would be happy to share.

Remember to be flashy not trashy!
