(I started this topic)

If a product you like keeps getting a bad review does it effect the way you feel about that product? Do you notice that your once favourite lip colour is getting pushed back in your makeup drawer? Or do you say "screw it" and wear it proudly?

I find that most makeup (and especially skin care) is very much an individual thing. your skin type, your preference in look - all that plays a huge role in how a product may work or not work for you. its very individual. I read reviews with a grain of salt - compare my skin type & intended use tot he reviewers and go from there. If someone said "oh it broke me out, don't use it!" that means nothing to me - my skin is not breakout prone. If someone says "this ingredient causes cancer" that's another story. I will still do my own research.

I just had lunch with a friend and discussed that very issue. Her grandmother used Vasoline her whole life -- only Vasoline. Her skin was beautiful. My friend tried it and it broke her skin out. Yes, I think it depends on the individual. That's why it would nice to have a profile of each blogger on TB.

I just say 'sod it' and wear what I like. I reviewed a Chanel nail varnish on my blog which attracted a comment from someone who said it was the greatest nail varnish they'd ever used and couldn't understand what I'd found wrong with it. Each to their own.

I wear whatever I like. People have different opinions and if it works for you, why stop.

Having tried a bajillion products in my life - loving lots and hating many - I don't take reviews personally. I know that each person has her own set of needs, her own unique skin, her own idea of what beauty is ... and how she feels about a particular product will be judged through that filter. My filter won't be the same as hers. I see myself differing with others' reviews all the time - it doesn't matter to me. I like what I like and to each her own.

Very well said. I was going for something of that nature, but my post came off as kinda stuck up, sorry about that!

Oh, it didn't sound stuck up at all.

I agree that reviews rarely affect how I feel about a product that I already like. However, if I'm on the fence, a bad review may swing me more towards disliking it ( like it justifies or back up my hunch). Several bad reviews do stop me from purchasing some things though. I always spends gads of money on make up , a lot of which I rarely used and gave away. When I 4 shoe boxes full of MAC and Sephora stuff to give away, I thought using more discretion before buying was a great idea and starting trolling product reviews. The good thing is that I know what I like and dislike in a product and all the product testing was fun. Not to mention all my friends that love me bc of all the free make up they've received.

I do agree that, if I'm considering a product and haven't purchased yet, but read quite a few bad reviews, that might give me pause.
