I really agree with Blackberry addict. So much about makeup and beauty is personal. We all have different skin and different issues so nothing is going to be one girl fits all. A friend of mine is allergic to ingredients in expensive shampoos, the only thing she can actually use is Pert Plus or Prell (Not sure which one). Another friend of mine's skin breaks out if she uses clinique make up, but is great if she uses Estee Lauder (I'm the opposite).

I usually give most stuff the benefit of the doubt. "Hey it didn't work for me, but it may work for you."

(I started this topic)

I agree - makeup is personal so I never try to knock a brand someone likes. But yah, I'm the same if I've read a bad review and I haven't purchased it yet it makes me not want to buy it in the long run. It affects me sometimes when I give a client a recommendation and they hated it. It's hard when you're a makeup artist or a beauty blogger because the expectation is higher. I should start saying a disclaimer "makeup performance varies!" :)

Haha! It's hard to please everyone. It's so great that now in addition to TB's reviews we can ome in these forums to ask about products!

I feel that if folks are reading my blog, they're doing it because they trust me and my judgment. I do hope they all take my reviews with a grain of salt, as everyone's mileage may vary, but I do try to be as clear as I can in my reviews. I tell exactly why I like or dislike a product and I think lots of things that I dislike are general things that most women won't like. Still, if a product is too greasy for my oily skin, I try to point out that, while it didn't work for me, it would most likely work well for someone with dry skin. Lately, I've been having guest reviews by women who are the target audiences for products that probably won't work for me. I've had my cousin do reviews on products for women with dry skin and even had my daughter review some products made for kids.

I'm always interested in hearing about people's opinions regarding a product, but if I try it and love it, no one else's opinion is going to matter much. If it gets consistently horrible reviews, I might try it pretty extensively before I buy it, but it won't stop me from trying it.

Like everyone else here said, you just have to take it with a grain of salt and realize that most of the fun of playing with beauty products is figuring out which ones work for you and which ones don't - and you won't ever really know that unless you try them yourself!

There was a study out recently that offered a percentage of I believe 68 percent of women will be swayed by the advice of a blogger. I will have to find the link.

Makeup and Skincare is definately an individual thing. I have read bad reviews of my favs, and hated things everyone else loves.
I do research products and if I see a lot of bad reviews that will usually deter me. On a separate level, sometimes I just randomly buy makeup and hope for the best.

I agree, I'm so glad I found this site because if I want to try a new product I usually look it up here first!

I have purchased products even though they got poor reviews, and sometimes they work great for me, other times I wish I had taken the advice to steer clear. I've also avoided some products if there was an overwhelmingly poor response to them, or if the product's claims seemed really too good to be true. Lip plumpers in particular are absolute junk to me, but others enjoy using them and they see results. To each her own!

Nobody should feel insulted, hurt or angry if another person doesn't like a product that they love. For me, cosmetics are about fun and expressing myself in different, non-permanent ways. As long as the product is being criticized, and not the person using it, I'm good with that.

Make up and skin care are defintely sometihng that is very personal to everyone. And not every product will suit everyone.

for me ... if there are five or more bad reviews it would make me think twice. It would make me go and research the product alittle more and if i was convinced it was the one for me well i would buy it.

one or two bad reviews won't sway me - we are all different and want products to do different things for us.
