Question about scent preferences

(I started this topic)

For a long time I have liked musky, oriental scents with hints of fruit or vanilla. For the past few months, I've noticed that my perfumes don't smell as good as they used to. The other day, I began to put on my perfume, and I gagged at the smell. I was shocked to discover that I didn't like any of my perfumes anymore! They all just smelled heavy and gave me a headache. Has this happened to anyone else?? What do you think causes this? I think it might be because all of my perfumes smell very young and those smells just aren't appealing anymore.

How long have you had those perfumes? Some perfumes, as the age, become heavier or lose thier scents. Maybe you've just had them too long and they don't smell the same.

Go to a perfume counter at a local department store and test out several different perfumes - not just orientals, but florals, citrus, fresh, and fruity scents too. (bring a long some unground coffee beans to cleanse your scent palette in between!). Make note of the scents you like. If you no longer like the orientals, maybe your preferences have changed. Maybe test out some scents that you already have at home to see if they smell the same - that way you'll know if your bottles are just old or whatever.

Also - don't spray directly on your skin unless you want to stink all day. Spray into the air or onto strips of paper. If you find one you really like, spray it on your wrist and wear it all day before you buy it. Some scents can change while you're wearing them and you may not like the way it smells later.

Hope this helped.
