good lord..I can go on and on about overated brands and products. the Mineral Makeups like Bare Escentuals. I found a Bare Escentutals in a mall years ago and loved their shower gel..this before the mineral makeup hype. It breaks me out and has bad coverage. Proactiv.Thats another one. Its soo harsh,I dont think any of the celebrities that are on the informercial use it. I have on Benefit thing the wash for acne...its horrible! Im sure theres alot more!

First off...*I* am an Avon lady, but from my personal experience, most of the Avon anti aging stuff I tried is greasy and does NOT flatten or fill out or in any way diminish fine lines nor the 2 lines above the nose (the lines Botox would *hopefully?* get rid of).

Avon ANEW Clinical Line and Wrinkle Corrector is overpriced crap.

As far as Acne products,Avon's "mark" "In Your Dreams"Overnight Liquid Acne Treatment is of NO value whatsoever treating pimples. They say apply before bed and blemishes are gone or start drying up.Hogwash!Ditto the Avon Clear Skin program of salicylic acid "treatments".No change at all.

Though their Purifying Astringent Blackhead Clearing Formula feels good..but its comparable to Noxzema brand astringent or seabreeze.

KNOW WHAT WORKS when I wash my face?????Noxzema skin cleanser....just avoid getting in your eyes. Its refreshing and nongreasy and since its not foaming,it won't so easily wash out your hair dye from your roots.

Most so-called waterproof liquid eyeliners are bogus, they run.

One notable exception is Maybelline Timeliner Waterproof.

Oh the Avon gel eyeliners that say Daring Definition are good, they last and don't run.

Avon's Astonishing Lengths is my fave Avon mascara.

The Avon mascara that sucks the worst is 'Daring Definition."Its skimpy and too thin,I hafta make 20 coats to see decent lashes.

Avons flavored lip balms can be incredible.Try Sugar Cookie and any chocolate balm or flavored gloss.Yum.

I have to agree with you about the Great Lash mascara thing. Yeah, I've used it and it's well, kinda like any other mascara out there. Their waterproof formula is pretty good. Wet n'Wild's got a pretty good mascara and Loreal,Revlon and Avon mascaras are worth looking at, too. I've read Allure for years and generally like their magazine but I don't understand where they get their information from when they formulate their best beauty products lists.

Okay, I'm probably going to create a few enemies here, but one product that I could never understand and was never fond of was long lasting lipcolor. Ya know, the that has a laquer-type paint that you brush on and let it dry and then top with either a liquid or stick gloss topcoat. Not only would it make my lips horribly dry and heavy (claustraphobic would best describe it) if I didn't constantly keep reapplying the top gloss (which does not stay on long at all in the first place) but the color itself would crack whenever I moved my mouth a certain way, or it would ball up on my lips (even when I was wearing the top coat) or it would start to flake off, proving to be a real nuisance. I never really liked the color of the stuff either, it always seemed rather dull and flat to me.

I love this place ! I can finally talk to other women who are makeup junkies like me ! I have worked for many different cosmetic companies over the years ( taking time off now to be with my kids)... and I LOVE and HATE many things about every line.

Overrated
Mac- eyeshadows(I like the studio fix face powder though)
Maybelline Great Lash...so thin--horrible brush
Clinique skincare
mineral makeup
Dior

Love?
Prescriptives mascara and lash primer ( !)
Chanel eyeshadow and lipgloss ( I am a sucker for lipgloss)
smashbox cream eyeliner
Borghese Fango mud treatment
OPI nailcolor ( this is more of a 'like' than a love, but I can't seem to find anything that wears well AND has great colors

I also don't understand how come great lash by maybelline is the no 1 and every magazine brags about it!!!
I hate it too! doesn't do anything. I was really curious to try it, but it went right into trash after first try! On the other side I love xxl mascaras by maybelinne - they are my favourite

I love Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush lip gloss in Candy Baby! It looks good and tastes great, too! I haven't had any problems with it and actually bought 3 tubes at the same time in case they discontinue it. I haven't tried any of their other beauty products, though.

There is an ingredient in BE that is called bismuthoxy...that makes anyone breakout and thus why we do not like BE. Best option and less expensive is Larenim mineral makeup, check it out! I do not work for Larenim nor BE; so, this is a true recomendation from a frustrated mineral makeup user.

For me it's going to be MAC, although I must admit that I do like a few of their products, but most of the time it doesn't live up to the hype, or at least to my expectations. The eyeshadows are my main beef, while the colors look great in the pan they rarely look as good when applied (at least on me) nor do they blend very well.

I don't understand the Great Lash phenomena either, but I've never used it so I can't honestly say.

However, I do love Smashbox products. Most of my daily-wear makeup is Smashbox, but I do agree that the lipgloss isn't good at all. My favorites are the Wet/Dry foundation (discontinued), the lip emulsion, and the soft lights.

I totally agree with everyone's comments. La Mer is WAY to expensive and it's obvious that you are really just buying the name. I also wanted to add Sheer Cover. I ordered it from the shopping channel and it was a pain in the ass to use. I have gone back to good old Olay and found this new product called Mistura Beauty online to replace the Sheer Cover. It's supposed to work on everyone's skin tone and color and it's only one step. So far I love it.
Dior is highway robbery too. After a few weeks my mascara smelled like mud.
