Hi, I hope this I haven't duplicated anyone's thread (sorry if I have) but I'm wondering if there are any products that you simply will not splurge on. I find that after using Benefit, Dior, Lancome and many expensive mascaras, my all time fave is L'Oreal Voluminous. Actually, I bought a new one yesterday and they now how have a clump free formula with a new brush. I paid $7.50 as opposed to over $20. And since they say mascara should be replaced every 3 months, I think it's worth it.

The products, I always splurge on however, are skin care, eye shadows, compacts and blushes. Don't know if it's worth it but I have a horrible habit of thinking they're better if they cost more, which I know is downright stupid and silly and I need to break the habit!

I will agree with you. I was suffering using Maybelline Great Lash for awhile, and read on total beauty about the Voluminous mascara. Everything that goes on my face is Clinique, except for my mascara. It works so great, so I can't bring myself to spend more. My mom swears by Chanel makeup, but still goes for the less expensive mascara.

As for what I splurge on, if it goes on my face, I shell out money. My skin is extremely sensitive. I've tried numerous brands, both expensive and cheap, but the only thing that doesn't irritate my skin is Clinique. My biggest splurge was probably my fresh bloom all over colour (the blush that looks like a flower in the compact). I thought $30 for blush was a little insane, but it looks so beautiful and natural.

I tend to splurge more on skincare and haircare products. I love a good $20 mascara as much as the next gal, but I've found that at the end of the day, Maybelline Great Lash works best for me! (And yes, I've tried Dior's Diorshow and ALL of Lancome's variations.) I also think there are some great lipglosses, eyeshadows and eyeliners out there for under $10 that are perfectly fine!

I'm definitely more likely to splurge on skincare. Anything else I'm happy to skimp or splurge on.

I have skimps and splurges from each category. For skincare, I use Cetaphil, but also Prevage. For foundations, I use MAC and L'Oreal. For blushes, I use Chanel and L'Oreal. For mascaras, Cover Girl and Dior. Shadows, mark. and Stila. Lipsticks, Revlon and Laura Mercier. Lipglosses, Chanel and mark. It's all about what catches your eye and makes you feel and look great.

I'm with you on the splurging for stuff that goes on your face. It may be silly but I'm scared to trying drug store compacts bc I had a bad experience when I was younger. Although I bet the quality of compacts nowadays is better. Funny, I always thought that i splurged on skin care but when I think about it, my cleanser is $18 and my moisturizer is $30, which makes me wince at times but I don't bat an eye(lash) when it comes to spend $25 on blush. Oh, the priorities!

I pay $120 for Retin-A, $120 for Prevage MD, and then go to the drugstore and pay peanuts for Olay Regenerist that is recommended by almost every dermatologist that I have talked to. The derms also seem to lean toward Roc, also a drugstore find. Last night I slathered Boots Wonderbalm, Target, on my face after my bedtime routine. I am loving this little pot of hydration. I think it might have sealed in the moisture and other products while I slept.

I love that a lot of what dermatologists recommend (like Cetaphil, Regenerist, etc.) are readily available in a local drugstore. It makes beauty accessible to everyone, at any price point.

I definitely save my money for good moisturizer! I have dry skin, and a lot of things don't work for me. I skimp on cleanser (Cetaphil) because I want almost nothing in my cleanser, I splurge on my nighttime moisturizer (la mer) but skimp on my daytime moisturizer (Cetaphil moisturizing cream and neutrogena dry touch spf.) If i absolutely love the color/consistency of a gloss, I will either skimp or splurge. I am pretty dang picky about eyeshadows though. I find some of the cheaper ones have less pigment, or are so loose they end up all over my face. I would good, bold colors for my eyeshadows. But if I can find almost an exact substitute for something expensive, I will gladly trade in the $$ guzzlers!

Funny story: I lost my favorite end all beat all Bobbi Brown powder blush and, if you know me, you understand I do NOT step out of the house without blush. That little pop of color goes a long way to pulling my look together. So I went to Target to get something to cheap to hold me over until I could go to the Bobbi counter. Nobody seemed to have the right shade of dark rose and I was about ready to give up until I spotted the perfect shade from, off all the brands! Wet n' Wild!

And you know what? It is just as flattering and has twice the staying power as other blush for less than $2!

Lately, but only once in a while, I've found myself willing to spend a little extra on things like primers, because my skin hasn't been very accepting of my makeup. Everything else, though - mostly makeup - I usually look for deals on and am willing to buy cheap.
