Clinique Long Last Soft Shine Lipstick

    Not my favorite Clinique lipstick

Clinique loves to include this formula in their "gift with purchase" packages, especially in the colors Bamboo Pink and Sugared Maple. I find this formula to be more drying and more frosty than I prefer, so when I purchase lipstick, I choose Clinique Different Lipstick or Butter Shine Lipstick instead. Ingredients: castor (ricinus communis) oil, octyldodecanol, candelilla wax (cera), isopropyl palmitate, dipentaerythrityl hexahydroxystearate/steareate/rosinate, phenyl trimethicone, diisostearyl adipate, microcrystalline wax (cera microcristallina), ceresin, ozokerite, ethylene/va copolymer, wheat (triticum vulgare) sphingolipids, green olive (olea europaea) extract, c18-38 hydroxystearoyl stearate, aloe (aloe barbadensis) extract, lecithin, linoleic acid, tocopheryl linoleate, octyldodecyl myristate, cholesterol, silica, gyceryl rosinate, bht. May Contain: aluminum lakes of d & c red nos. 22, 28, 33, aluminum lakes of fd & c yellow nos. 5 & 6, bismuth oxychloride, carmine, d & c red no. 6, d & c red no. 7 calcium lake, fd & c blue no. 1 aluminum lake, iron oxides, d & c red no. 30 lake, mica, titanium dioxide.

  • Clinique Almost Lipstick

    Clinique Almost Lipstick

    I prefer Clinique Different Lipstick

I bought this a few years ago in Sheer Blackberry, and it ended up being much less sheer than I expected. It looked too bright with my fair skin and medium brown hair. I considered trying this in another color, but I prefer the texture of Different Lipstick, which seems just as sheer as this but feels less waxy. I eventually gave the Sheer Blackberry to my mom, whose skin and hair is darker, and it looks great on her. Ingredients: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Oil, Cetyl Ricinoleate, Glyceryl Triacetyl Ricinoleate, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Polyethylene, Tocopheryl Acetate. May Contain: Yellow 5 Lake, Red 33 Lake, Red 28 Lake, Red 6 Lake, Blue 1 Lake, Iron Oxides, Red 7 Lake, Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride, Red 30 Lake, Carmine, Manganese Violet, Red 22 Lake, Titanium Dioxide, Red 21 Lake, Yellow 6 Lake, Red 27 Lake, Orange 5, Red 36.

  • Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask
    8.0

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask

A good mask, but there's a cheaper, better alternative

This used to be my favorite mask. I loved the way the charcoal absorbed impurities from my face. However, it sometimes left my slightly oily skin a little dry, and I didn't like the high price (and I had to add shipping to price since I don't have an Origins counter near me). Then, I discovered Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Carbon Mask, which I prefer over this Origins mask. The PC mask clears impurities and oil from my skin without making it feel dry (thanks to glycerin in the formula), and it's cheaper too! Overall, though, the Origins mask isn't bad; I just like the PC mask better. Ingredients: Aqueous Infusions; Melilot (Melilotus Officinalis), Equisetum Arvense, Kaolin, Bentonite, Butylene Glycol, Montmorillonite, Polysorbate 20, PEG-100 Stearate, Activated Charcoal, Natural Xanthan Gum, Lecithin, PEG-150 Distearate, Propylene Glycol Stearate, Sorbitan Laurate, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol Laurate, Simethicone, Trisodium EDTA, Deydroacetic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Iron Oxides.

  • Neutrogena Clean 60 Second Hair Repair
    7.0

Neutrogena Clean 60 Second Hair Repair

Good for dry, but not fine, hair

I tested this conditioner when I received a sample size. Normally I don't use a deep conditioner because my healthy, straight, fine-but-thick hair doesn't need it (despite daily blow drying), and this conditioner reminded me that. It claims "won't weigh hair down," but it weighs down my hair. It's okay to use after a clarifying shampoo once a week, but a more lightweight conditioner is better for me. I can see that this would work well for someone with slightly dry hair that isn't fine, but on healthy hair or fine it is too heavy. Ingredients: Purified Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Trimethylsilyamodimethicone, Wheat Germ, Rosemary, Tocopheryl Acetate, Panthenol, Glycerin, Emulsifying Wax NF, Glycol Stearate, Ceteth 2, Linoleamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Butylene Glycol, Hydroxypropyl Guar, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Fragrance.

  • Paul MItchell Shampoo Three

    Paul MItchell Shampoo Three

    Avoid this overly harsh shampoo!

A hair stylist sold this shampoo to me years ago when I requested a shampoo to remove chlorine from my hair after swimming. It turned out to be one of the worst shampoos I have ever used, and I switched stylists. This shampoo does not lather well, smells terrible, and leaves my hair feeling stripped, dry, and tangly. There are better clarifying shampoos that aren't so harsh. Ingredients: Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Urea, Magnesium Sulfate, Sodium Thiosulfate, Bisamino PEG/PPG-41/3 Aminoethyl PG-Propyl Dimethicone/Glutamine/Tyrosine/Leusine/Cysteine/Glycine/Comfrey/Plantain/Wheat Protein/PEG-12 Dimethicone, Sodium Borate, Sulfated Castor Oil, Magnesium Carbonate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Trisodium HEDTA, Disodium EDTA-Copper, DMDM Hydantoin, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbarnate, Fragrance.

  • Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover
    7.0

    Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover

    A good, cheap makeup remover

This eye makeup remover works as well as any others I have tried, but it doesn't remove mascara as well as my cleansers from Paula's Choice, so I don't use it often. It does one thing particularly well: It thoroughly removes long-wear lipsticks and even helps counteract some of the dryness that they cause. However, I don't wear long-wear lipsticks often, so I may not repurchase. Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Water, Cyclohexasiloxane, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Benzyl Alcohol, Sodium Chloride, Dipropylene Gylcol, Poloxamer 182, Allantoin, Tripotassium EDTA, Benzalkonium Chloride, Glycerin, Cucumber Fruit Extract, Potassium Phosphate, Dipotassium Phosphate, Phenoxethanol.

    MAC Pro Longwear LipColour

    Lasts but is gritty

I bought this lip color in the shade For Keeps, which is a slightly darker version of my natural lip color. It really does last, but the texture is gritty and uncomfortable. I'd rather have to reapply my lipstick than put up with gritty lips. Base Coat Ingredients: Isododecane, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone, Quaternium-18 Hectorite, Propylene Carbonate, Propylparaben. Base May Contain: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Bismuth Oxychloride, Carmine, Blue 1 Lake, Red 7 Lake, Red 30 Lake, Red 33 Lake, Yellow 5 Lake, Yellow 6 Lake, Yellow 10 Lake. Top Coat Ingredients: Sucrose Polycottonseedate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Silica, Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tocopherol, Retinyl Palmitate, Cholesterol, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Teradibutyl Pentarithrityl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Ceramide 3, Oleic Acid, Vanillin, Phenoxyethanol. Top Coat May Contain: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Carmine, Blue 1 Lake, Red 6 Lake, Red 7 Lake, Red 30 Lake, Yellow 10 Lake.

  • MAC Blot Powder Pressed

    MAC Blot Powder Pressed

An excellent pressed powder for oily skin

This is the best powder I have used so far. This does a great job of making my skin look smooth and controlling the oil in my T-zone, and it never looks dry or chalky. As for the color, it runs very light. I have fair skin, and medium is the perfect color for me. I have no idea why they call it "medium," but the light is practically white. Ingredients: Dimethicone, Silica, Kaolin, Water, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Methicone, Coconut Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben. May Contain: Mica, Iron Oxides.

  • Clinique Stay-True Makeup Oil-Free Formula

I used this foundation a few years ago when my skin was oilier. The Clinique Web site claims: "Blends easily to a smooth matte finish." But I did not find that this foundation blends easily; in fact, it seemed more difficult than most I have used. Of course, this is partly due to the color being too dark for my fair skin, even though the woman at the Clinique counter sold me Stay Light, which is supposed to work for fair skin. Also, although the finish started out matte, it didn't stay matte for more than a few hours, even with powder on top. The only good thing about this foundation is that it never made me break out. Ingredients: water purified, cyclomethicone, propylene glycol, tea-stearate, kaolin, glyceryl stearate, tea-isostearate, steareth2, magnesium aluminum silicate, polyethylene, steareth 20, cellulose gum, alumina, xantham gum, trisodium edta, imidazolidinyl urea, sodium dehydroacetate, methylparaben, propylparaben. May contain: talc, titanium dioxide, iron oxides, ultramarines, bismuth oxychloride, mica, carmine.

    Stila Eye Shadow Pan

    My favorite shadows

These are my favorite eye shadows. They go on so smoothly, like butter, and they are well pigmented. My only gripe is that I wish Stila had more matte shades, since I generally don't like shimmery eye shadow.
