  • Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Instant Mineral SPF 45

I love this sunscreen to use as touch ups throughout the day. It's a mineral sunscreen that goes on sheer and weightless, so it's perfect for touching up on any shiny spots on your face. The fact that it's a physical sunscreen (titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) is a great thinkg because physical sunscreens don't require indoor time to become effective like sunscreen lotions usually require 15-30 minutes before going outside. Just open the cap, and brush it on; the powder easily disperses through the bristles. You can use this ANYWHERE on your body, from your face, arms, chest, etc. I do recommend using this primarily as a touch up sunscreen, so you should still wear a liquid or spray on your skin, and then after two hours when you need touching up, or if you become oily or sweaty, then this is a good product to have on your person. It's VERY portable, so this can fit in your pocket everywhere you go. When you're done applying it on you, just pull the base out, and that will pull the brush back inside. Then place you cap on and push the base back out. Do be careful with handling this product because it is very delicate and powder can get over you if you're not careful. Also, it's difficult to see how much powder you have left. Although this lasts for a very long time if you don't waste too much of it, it would be nice if the tube was clear so you can see when you're low. You can open the bottom of the tube, but you are 95 percent likely that you're going to spill a bunch of powder all over you. This hasn't made me break out and it gives me a nice finish because both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide tend to reflect light. It might not be your friend if you're getting pictures with flash taken of you, but if you're walking around outside, it's okay. This is $35 a tube, but I think it's worth it because I do feel that it protects me well in the sun. I haven't had a single sunburn in using this to touch up in addition with my liquid sunscreen. A COOL tip--for people with blonde, thinning, thin or receding hairline, or if your scalp tends to burn easily; brush this into your hair and it's a great way to keep your scalp from burning if you aren't wearing a hat.

  • Nars Larger Than Life Lip Gloss

Don't bee fooled by first impressions during the first minute that you try this lip gloss on. It feels sticky at first, but I have worn this gloss countless times and it gets better after a couple minutes. In fact, this is slowly becoming one of my favorite glosses because it actually lasts longer than typical glosses in terms of wearing power. Anything that Nars labels as 'Larger Than Life' is going to be very long-wear and very pigmented. The glosses in the LTL line (as opposed to the regular Nars glosses) not only is longer-wearing, but also more pigmented. There are so many beautiful colors (my favorites are Gold Digger, Como, and Odalisque). I also love the brush wand as opposed to a sponge wand-- it makes applying the gloss easier. The wands hold a lot of gloss too, so you don't have to keep re-dipping the wand inside the gloss, you can cover both of your lips. I hope Nars keeps coming out with more glosses in the Larger Than Life line, because they are definitely gaining my favor!

  • Nars Larger Than Life Eyeliner
    9.0

    Nars Larger Than Life Eyeliner

    BEST. LINER. EVER.

Nars Larger Than Life Eyeliners have become my favorite for the following reasons. 1) Fastest dry time ever. It dries in 30 seconds, which is so much faster than other liners such as Make Up For Ever or Urban Decay. Try this test. Mark your and and wait until 30 seconds has passed, then rub your hand and you'll notice how this does NOT budge. You also get very rich colors too (Via Veneto is a pure jet black). I also love the shade Rue Bonaparte (perfect beige for lining your waterline to create an open-eye look). Since this eyeliner won't budge (at least it's less prone to budging and smearing), less mess is made (you have to worry less about your liner melting off). Second--this pencil is retractable. DO NOT try to sharpen it (you have NO idea how many people I know have ruined it because it looks and feels like a traditional pencil). Also, there is a cap at the bottom end of the pencil which you can remove and VOILA!! A sharpener for your pencil. Nars is always a brand that not only delivers excellent quality products, but also chic gorgeous packaging. This pencil is very creamy. If you like Urban Decay or Make Up For Ever pencils, the creaminess is identical, so it's easy to create your looks with minimal effort. A couple things that could be improved-- first--this pencil is NOT waterproof. It is water resistant Although it is the closest thing to being waterproof, if you cry TOO hard or get wet, you're going to have to reapply. The next thing is that this pencil dries SO fast that you have to work a bit fast to apply the product (Nars created products aimed towards the working woman who has little to no time to put make up on). Let me elaborate--when I put some on on my waterline, I have to work fast to make sure it's an even color. If I miss a spot that looks a little bit sheer, this dries so fast that when you go back to apply some on that spot, your liner starts to "wipe off" completely clean and you have to reapply the liner. Also, these pencils are a bit more expensive than UD or MUFE pencils (one Nars pencil runs at 23 dollars). To me it is worth the price because you get a remarkable pencil that has amazing lasting power. Play around with these pencils at Sephora and you might just fall in love with them too.

  • Perricone MD Hypoallergenic Firming Eye Cream

What I love about Perricone products is that they give you more instant gratification than other brands. Perricone is a good brand if you want to see fast results. I'm 25 and I've been using an eye cream for a couple of years (in my opinion, every person should do so because it's much easier to maintain as you get older. If you're young, you don't need anything for deep wrinkles, just get something that's hydrating--it makes a HUGE difference!!) Anyways, I'm starting to see fine lines under my eyes (which was heartbreaking and a bit nerve-wrecking). I have used MANY eye creams of all prices and this one definitely sits on the top of my list of favorites. After a few uses, your skin feels super hydrated and it looks and feels much firmer. After a couple of weeks I did notice my fine lines were significantly reduced. I'm someone who notices the weirdest things that most people would laugh at (no one believed me that I was getting fine lines), but I wonder what someone with deeper wrinkles will see after using this product after a few weeks. My eyes did look brighter too. There was no sign of puffiness either while using this. What I love about this is that it does not feel sticky like some other firming eye products tend to be, and there is no residue left over. Applying makeup on top of it is a breeze because your skin is hydrated and there is no sign of flaky skin anywhere (which tends to happen to me under my eyes). In addition, what I love about this is because it's 'hypoallergenic', it's safe enough to use on your eyelid and brow bone (Which you wouldn't believe how many eye creams are NOT safe to use that way, yet people still do it). To be honest, I'm still on the search for my holy grail eye cream, but this is one of my favorites because it delivers visible results in such a short period of time. Don't expect a full eye lift, but you may see noticeable firming around your entire area. It's $65 a jar which is pricey to most people, but is the average price for most high-end eye creams. You do get what you pay for, so it's worth the price.

  • Zotos Diamond Shine Moisturizing Conditioner

My review of the Diamond Shine shampoo is very similar to that of the conditioner, so you may read identical bits. I absolutely LOVE to shop at Sally Beauty and it took a while for me to give in and buy the Diamond Shine Shampoo and Conditioner (they have sales every now again where you get 2 liters for $15, basically you get one for free). I bought this because I was looking for an (inexpensive) sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner that was good for color-treated hair, but was going to strengthen and fortify it because I want to grow it longer. After finishing a liter of both the shampoo and conditioner, I can say that I like it, but I don't love it. Yes, my hair seems a tiny bit more stronger because I don't see split ends as frequently as normal (then again I don't know if my leave-in conditioner is doing most of the work), and my hair seems a little bit shinier (then again I have shine sprays if I wanted shiny hair. My hair is very thick and coarse, and this did not make it feel soft like more 'reputable' salon brands. The shampoo seems to run out quickly because I need a lot more if it than other salon brands. In noticed that the entire system works best if you use both the shampoo and conditioner. The conditioner does make your hair feel softer because the shampoo just doesn't do much alone. For someone like me who has used everything from the super cheap to the brutally costly, it's not a bad conditioner for someone looking for an upgrade from drug store stuff. In fact, that's my best recommendation. If you have been using drugstore shampoo and conditioner, give this a try. You can find it at Sally's. You'll definitely like this much better. However, if you have very high standards and your hair has a mind of its own like mine, then you might want to look elsewhere. This is definitely a decent shampoo that makes the Diamond Shine series worth a try, but it's up to you whether you will give it a second chance. Unfortunately, I won't.

    Zotos Diamond Shine Moisture Shampoo

    Not entirely impressed

In fact, I need MORE shampoo with this than I do with other brands, so my shampoo seems to run out so much faster. It doesn't foam up very well the first time even if I use a lot, so sometimes I need to shampoo twice to make sure my hair is clean. • Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Serum Foundation

Josie Maran infuses argan oil in all of her products which is very hydrating and nourishing to dry skin. I live in Arizona, so I deal with the perpetual problem of such dry skin. I have recently dealt with an issue with my skin were it was difficult for me to wear foundation because my skin was extremely unstable--one day it would melt off in an hour, another day it would dry up and cake on me. I do have a complexion where I feel I must wear foundation. Another problem I encountered was difficulty in finding the correct tone. Don't get me wrong, I work with make up so I can identify tone and undertone easily. I am an olive complexion, but I am much lighter. Most foundations make foundation for olive tones that are medium or tan--not lighter olive complexions. Most foundations will be too pink and ashy on my complexion because it is not olive enough. What I do like about this foundation is that it self-adjusts, but is made for people who have more yellow/olive tones. Watching it adjust on my skin as kind of cool, but it wasn't a perfect match. I would still rather have a foundation that was a close shade (not too light or dark), even though it's not golden enough. The argan oil in this foundation was very nourishing to my skin. I did like that my skin felt comfortable with this on. Even though it's supposed to leave you with a satin/dewy finish, I still had to top it with powder because the argan oil would shine through on the surface. This foundation unfortunately isn't very binding to your skin. If you ran a finger on your skin, you run the risk of wiping it off. Therefore, this isn't very long-wearing. Also, you're only going to get light--MAYBE medium coverage with this. This isn't recommended for people who need more coverage. What I did love about this foundation was that my foundation neither melted, nor dried up on my skin which is quite rare. There are a lot of things I would change about this foundation, but it does a decent job for ME. It is a bit pricey at 42 dollars a jar. Although I did like this foundation overall, I do not feel compelled to make this my holy grail foundation product.

  • Josie Maran Pressed Powder
    6.0

    Josie Maran Pressed Powder

    Cool idea, poor execution

Josie Maran Argan Oil is a permanent staple in my skin care regimen. It is one of the only items that has remain a constant through my frequent changes. What I love about her cosmetics line is that all of her products are infused with PURE argan oil (unlike most imitators which add a lot of junk to their argan oil). What is also unique to her line is how most of her cosmetics are self-adjusting too. There are only three shades of this powder-- fair/light, light/medium, medium/dark. I fit in the light/medium. Although it's cool to see the powder change colors on your skin to match your shade, what I HATE is how much this powder flakes off onto your clothing. The powder is NOT what the image above suggests--the real deal is actually marbled with white and beige depending on your tone. This will feel comfortable on your skin and leaves a natural finish, for how frequently this flakes off all over you as you pat in on is an indicator of how fast this product will go because of all the powder that is wasted. Not worth my money.

  • L'Oreal Paris Sublime Sun Advanced Sunscreen SPF 50+ Liquid Silk Sunshield for Face

I love the texture of liquid sunscreens--I love how they just melt into the skin so easily. I used to spend top dollar on Clarins or LaRoche-Posay liquid sunscreens because they seemed to make me very happy. Recently, I was at the drugstore and L'Oreal caught my attention with the Sublime Sun skin care line, particularly the liquid sunscreen. I was a bit hesitant to give this a try because I had grown so use to prestige products, but I figured I could return it anyways after a week if I didn't like it. Overall, I do like this product very much. It's extremely similar to Clarins UV Plus HP Day Screen or LaRoche-Posay Anthelios--but at a fraction of the price. What used to cost me 38 and 30 respectively, only cost me 10 dollars with Sublime Sun. Another thing that thrilled me was that it didn't break me out. This did NOT leave me with a greasy white mask like other sunscreens can. Also, a bottle lasts forever even if you're liberal with it--just make sure to always shake verrrrry well before every use. My growing of skin care education really opened my eyes to this and most other sun screens on the market. First off, you REALLY need to put on a LOT of sunscreen in order to get the suggested spf level. They recommend about a teaspoon for your face. Most people will put what--maybe a nickle or quarter size? People don't know that unless you put on enough, you're barely getting ANY sun protection. Another thing, is that you need to put on sunscreen BEFORE you moisturize. Your skin can only absorb so much and it must absorb sunscreen in order to do it's job of protecting your skin. My biggest peeve about this product was that like most sunscreens, this has Oxybenzone in it, which is a no-no for skin because it causes a lot of free-radical production in your skin. Therefore, you need to frequently use products and ingest foods with high levels of anti-oxidants in order to neutralize these free radicals that will damage your skin and cause aging. It's strange that something that is meant to protect your skin will damage it in the long run. This product contains grape extract (vitamin E) which is an antioxidant that will (hopefully) try to neutralize some of the free-radicals made, but is quite low on the list. Although this product absorbs easily, doesn't cause me to break out, VERY budget friendly, and can be worn under make up---I won't be buying this product again because of the Oxybenzone, but also because of how high parabens are on the list. My advice is to please read up on new FDA/skin cancer prevention information to become better informed on what you're buying because you never know if those products might be hurting you!

  • Ole Henriksen Aloe Vera Deep Cleanser

Ole Henriksen has become one of my favorite skin care brands because of the heavy use of natural ingredients that are very beneficial for people of all skin types and all ages. I work and sell skin care products and I have used SO many products because I am constantly looking for products that are going to help my troublesome skin. This is a fantastic cleanser for ME. I have super combination skin that is unstable, sensitive, alone with eczema and rosacea. This is one of the few cleansers that has soothed my skin and REDUCED the redness due to rosacea. My skin looks more even after using this than with other cleansers I've used. My skin also feels super clean, but it doesn't feel tight or dry with I love because I have a tendency to becoming dry. It seems a bit odd of the texture of this is a gel-cream--gels are typically good for people with oily skin and cream washes benefit drier skin. This does not foam very well, so if you like that squeaky clean feeling, you may not like this. This infuses aloe, chamomile, and vitamin E which greatly soothe the skin from irritation. It also has comfrey extract which is an astringent that reduces inflammation of blemishes. This is a deep cleaning cleanser that removes dirt, oil and leaves your skin feeling fresh, calm, and smooth. I like the smell of eucalyptus in this cleanser. It's very refreshing. This is a great cleanser to use with a clarisonic because it deep cleans. However, like I said, if you like something that's going to foam up very well, this might not be with.
