  • Guerlain Maxi Lash - Extreme Volume Mascara

I've tried MANY mascaras and the best compliment I've ever been able to give any of them is, "It's ok." Nothing has ever improved the look of my lashes very much and usually I have problems like smudges, clumps, or flakes that irritate my eyes (I wear contact lenses). Not with this mascara! One healthy coat adds volume AND curl (something many mascaras claim to do but I had become convinced was impossible). I can wear this mascara with my contact lenses and have no issues with flaking, nor does it smudge with normal wear. I've also never had any trouble with clumping during application. It's not waterproof, nor does it claim to be, but I have found it to be water resistant. I've cried while wearing it and didn't end up with black streaks down my face, and so long as I'm careful with the tissue, even when wet it won't smudge. It is more expensive than most mascaras I have used in the past, but it works so well and holds up so well throughout the day, I really think it is worth the investment. I've been using a sample, but I can't wait to buy a full size of this!

  • Clairol Professional Repair Daily Shampoo

I received a bottle of this shampoo in the mail to sample and review, and I sort of ended up putting it off for awhile. Life was busy and I wanted to use it for a full week and really pay attention to my hair so I could write a detailed review about it. Unfortunately, I did not make it a full week. I have a very weak sense of smell, but the scent of this shampoo was still too much for me. It smells very much like perm chemicals, I think. I also had trouble getting it to lather--which is interesting because some other reviewers wrote that it lathered well, so maybe it's a water issue or something. I can't speak for how well this works for protecting color treated hair as mine is not currently colored. I am going to hang onto this because I've been thinking of dying my hair again and if it works well for that, it might be worth the smell and lack of lather. UPDATE: I recently colored my hair and started using this again. I am a natural redhead and my hair does not hold hair color very well. With normal shampoo my color always fades pretty quickly. It's still fading noticeably, but not nearly as quickly as usual so I think this shampoo is definitely helping. I'm also no longer having the lather issue I originally had--but I'm still taking 3 stars off for smell because the scent is BAD.

  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Cream Eyeshadow

I love cream shadows--they're so easy to apply and blend. I received a tiny jar of this Tarte shadow in shimmering golden beige with a set that I chose as my 500 point perk from Sephora. I was initially very disappointed in this shadow. I threw it on alone, without primer, and within just a few hours it was clumping, creasing, and flaking off. It was awful. The next time I wore it, I made sure to use primer first and that made ALL the difference. The shadow stayed smooth and perfect all day. It was gorgeous. I would definitely consider buying a full-size jar of this shadow!

  • Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF 15

I forgot my lipstick one Friday when I had plans after work, so I popped into Sephora and bought a tube of this in the Stellar Plum shade on a whim. It's a decent gloss. A bit sticky, though I suspect that is what makes it "long wear" and it does last a long time, The biggest disappointment for me is that it is not as highly pigmented as I had hoped it would be. My fault for not testing it out before buying, but it is quite sheer (at least in the shade I purchased) with only a tiny hint of color. It does also have some shimmer, which I enjoy because it isn't WAY over done the way some shimmer glosses are with huge sparkles--none of that here. There's no fancy scent or flavor to this either--just basic makeup smell. There's nothing fancy about the applicator, either--run of the mill sponge tip. Which I like, but is nothing new or special that compels me to recommend this gloss more than any other. I keep this on my desk for every day wear since the sheer color makes it perfect for work and I don't think I'll be replacing my tube when it runs out.

  • Arbonne RE9 Advanced Night Repair Creme

This cream is very, very nice. I received free samples of most of the RE9 skincare line and my skin never looked better than when I was using all those products together (minus the day cream, which I did not like). These products are expensive, but as is often the case, you don't need much to get results. Using this night cream, my skin was smooth and clear the next morning every day that I used it. My skin did seem a little bit more oily than usual in the mornings, but I have naturally oily skin AND I tested this product during the summer. I think I wouldn't have that problem if I used this cream during the winter when my skin is more dry. This cream is expensive but definitely worth it if you can afford it. It really works!

  • Arbonne RE9 Advanced Restorative Day Créme Broad Spectrum SPF 20

I recently received a set of Arbonne samples and I was blown away by the entire RE9 line...except for this product. I really wanted to like it--daytime SPF is so important! But this cream was way too thick, I could barely even get it smoothed onto my skin. It honestly felt more like an icky paste and it was so difficult to apply, I just gave up after the first try.

  • Arbonne RE9 Advanced Corrective Eye Creme

I have a favorite eye cream already, but whenever I receive free samples, I'm more than happy to give them a chance! This one was well worth it. The cream is not super thick, but don't be mistaken--it is VERY effective. My fine lines are less noticeable, have NO dark circles (I didn't anyway, but that's from the other cream I was using--they have not returned as I've been using this cream for weeks now), and no puffiness at all. This brand is expensive, but you only need the tiniest amount of this cream to see results (I've been milking the sample packet for at least two months now, and it's still not empty), so I think the expense is definitely worth it. I'm impressed with this brand as a whole! It's expensive but incredibly effective.

  • Arbonne Arbone RE9 Advanced Regenerating Toner

I received a sample of the RE9 line (most of it, anyway), including this toner. I loved this. It was hard to use a runny toner out of a foil sample packet, but with the few uses I got out of it, I definitely noticed a difference in how smooth and clear my skin was. The toner didn't feel harsh and it wasn't overwhelmingly scented like some toners are (if it was scented at all--I have a weak sense of smell). I liked this a lot, and if it wasn't so expensive ($35 on their website as of 8/13/13) I would definitely consider purchasing.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes

    Not what I expected

I read an article on Total Beauty about the best waterproof eyeliners--this one was the clear winner (based on liner behavior on the back of the tester's hand). I'm in the market for a long wear, waterproof liner, so I went to Sephora to check this out. I drew a quick line on the back of my hand, liked the way the color looked, so I decided to buy it. Moments later I tried to wipe that line off and it didn't budge. Great sign, right?? Even with makeup remover and a tissue, there were bits of liner left behind on my hand, so I was just sure I was getting a pencil that could go the distance. Unfortunately, not so much. I have oily lids and oddly shaped eyes and even this pencil that was so resistant to friction, water, and makeup remover couldn't last even half a day on my eyes--alone. (I usually throw on liner and mascara only for the average work day.) If I wear this liner WITH eye shadow, it seems to last much better. I've been meaning to try the liner over shadow primer to see if that will help on days I'm not wearing shadow. I decided to keep the liner instead of returning it because I do love the color (I have it in a deep purple shade) and it wears very well with shadow, but I won't purchase again and I'm still on the hunt for something that will last on my crazy, oily lids. Like other reviewers have mentioned, I feel I have to draw the line over two or three times to get enough color payoff, but it doesn't take enough extra time to really irritate me (especially if you're someone for whom it doesn't wear off--definitely worth it). It just isn't for me.
