  • Dove Clinical Protection Original Clean

I usually use Secret Clinical Protection, but didn't remember that the last time I went to the store and bought this instead. It measures up about the same as the Secret, I think. I tend to be a rather sweaty person, especially as a runner, so I put this on at night after my shower, and then double up in the morning with a regular clear antiperspirant/deodorant. It's rare that I try to use this on its own, because I just don't trust ANY product to be able to handle it...but when I do, this one does really well at preventing sweat and only the tiniest bit of odor. It has a smooth texture and only leaves white marks on clothes immediately after it's applied (which is fine, because I put it on at night and don't care if there's deodorant marks on my pajamas!). The scent is light and fresh, and not so strong that I feel I can't wear perfume, and there is also a decent amount of product in the tube. I follow the directions to apply just two clicks under each arm and it is lasting a long time. I like this well enough, I think I'll switch back and forth between the Secret version and this. I don't know if bodies really can get used to a product if used consistently, but with something like this it seems like a good idea to mix it up, just in case.

  • Tarte Skinny smolderEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eyeliner

I have very oily lids and oddly shaped eyes/lids so I'm always trying new liners, hoping to find something that will stay on and won't transfer to my upper lids/crease by the end (or middle, for some pencils) of the day. So far, this is the best one I have tried and I think I'm going to buy it in some more colors, it's THAT good. I currently have it in slate, which is a nice, dark grey. Maybe even a little darker than I was going for, but I'd rather the grey be too dark than too light. This liner is highly pigmented and very, very soft. I need only the lightest touch to my lids to get a solid color payoff and a very nice, even line. This is both refreshing and a bit of an adjustment after months of using waxy, under-pigmented colors that require a heavier touch and/or drawing over the same line 3 or 4 times to get enough color. The first day I wore it, the liner didn't transfer or crease AT ALL. I was amazed. Since then, it has both transferred and creased, but not nearly to the degree that other liners do on me. I still have a line left at the end of the day! At the top and bottom, in fact, which is amazing since I also tend to rub my eyes a little more than I should. I have not yet worn this liner when putting in eye drops, so I'm not sure how well it delivers on the promise to be waterproof, but if it can stand up to my oily lids, I have high confidence! There is no glitter in this liner nor is it flaky at all, so it doesn't irritate my eyes when I'm wearing contact lenses. This is my new favorite liner and I can't wait to buy it in purple and brown! I wish they also made it in navy, but I might try out one of the green shades.

  • Arbonne RE9 Advanced Extra Moisture Restorative Day Creme Broad Spectrum SPF 20

The first Arbonne moisturizer I tried was way too thick. Since this one is "extra moisture" I saved this sample for late in the winter when my face started to get really, really dry. First, I was shocked that this is actually quite runny and thin compared to the first moisturizer I tried from this brand. Then I managed to miss the part about it being a day cream with SPF and used it for the first time at night. This smells very strongly of sunblock, so I went to bed that night smelling like I was on my way to the pool. My skin was very moisturized when I woke up in the morning, I just didn't enjoy the strong sunblock smell. (I have a weak sense of smell, by the way, so if it was too strong for me, it is STRONG.) Since it's a day cream, next tried it in the morning before makeup. It goes on a little greasy, but it made an excellent base for my powder foundation. I don't think my powder blends that well over any of the various primers I rotate through day to day. My skin never looked greasy throughout the day, but I think I have to give that credit to my powder, not the cream. Unfortunately, though? This cream did not agree with my eye makeup. Every last bit of liner and mascara was long gone before lunchtime (I start work at 7 am, so we're talking half a day or less here). So now I've used it twice, and I think I'm going to end up throwing out the rest of my sample because if hate the smell of it at night and can't keep eye makeup on during the day, I just don't see a place for it in my life.

  • Dior Addict Lipstick
    8.0

    Dior Addict Lipstick

    Very nice lipstick

I bought this lipstick about a year and a half ago to wear to a wedding and I kind of inexplicably fell in love with it. I have it in shade 583 Backstage, which is described as a "sheer plum." I would say that color description is pretty accurate, but I would add that it has just hint of a blue undertone and the tiniest bit of shimmer to it. I've never thought of it as sheer, nor is it a heavily pigmented lipstick. Just kind of medium coverage, I guess. I think I love it mostly because this particular shade goes so well with my coloring and is perfect for any occasion. I enjoy the texture very much--it's very smooth and never drying. I took two stars off because it doesn't last as well as other lipsticks, or as well as you might hope such an expensive lipstick would last. Since it requires frequent reapplication I notice I'm going through the tube much faster than I do most other lip products. Even so, this is a lipstick I will definitely purchase again because I love the shade and the feel of it. If I get that much enjoyment out of a product, then to me that makes it worth the price. The packaging is good, too--the lipstick clicks right into the case and I've never had trouble with it being loose or getting twisted up from rolling around in my purse (and it does a lot of rolling around--I carry this lipstick with me everywhere).

  • Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Cream

I don't know if they even still make this cream because I haven't seen it on store shelves for YEARS, but this was always my favorite. I used it consistently for several years and it made my skin look so amazing. I was in my 20s, so I didn't have a lot of wrinkles, but my skin was still noticeably smoother and more even when I used this. It also worked WONDERS on breakouts--treating existing acne, and preventing new acne. I only used it at night because I have oily skin, but the one application a day always kept my skin looking amazing. The active ingredients never dried out or irritated my skin, and when I was careful to only use as much as I needed, the one little tube would last several months. I was really sad when all my local stores stopped carrying it and if I ever see it again I will definitely purchase again.

  • Boscia Pore Purifying Black Strips

I was excited to try these, since they were marketed as something different and special compared to the original Biore pore strips. Unfortunately...they aren't, really. Except for the color, as far as I could tell, everything about these strips is the same as the original. And I never found the original to be as effective as I hoped, so I ended up sending these to a friend who gets more use out of pore strips than I do.

TIGI Bed Head Hard to Get

    Excellent Product!

A friend of mine grew out her short hair and sent what she had left of this to me since I wear my hair in a super short pixie cut. I LOVE this stuff. Ties for first place with Pureology Control Twist as my favorite styling product. In the jar it seems like a harder waxy product, but you only need a tiny bit and it softens and spreads nicely on the hands. It goes into my hair easily and gives it the perfect texture for a style that holds as long as I need it to. It has a very light cucumber-ish scent and because I only need a little bit, even a partly used jar has lasted me SO LONG. (I rotate between 2 or 3 products, which also helps.) I haven't ever spotted this for sale anywhere where I live, but if I ever do see it, I would definitely buy it!!! It's amazing.

  • FX Special Effects Molding Wax Pliable Hair Wax Flexible Hold

This product is VERY affordable, and at first glance it is the exact texture I like in products for my super short hair. I want so badly to like this product that I have purchased it more than once, but really? I just don't love it. There's a very fine line with this product between too little and too much and I have trouble finding the balance. Even when I do find that perfect balance, this does not have a lasting hold. I notice midway through the day that my hair looks like I didn't put anything in it at all and I end up fighting it to make it look styled at all. It's also not as easy as it seems it should be to style my hair once I've put the product in. My hair is so short, I should not have to fight it to lay the way I want once the product is in! I have a tiny bit left in my last jar and I'm just not going to buy this again.

  • Herbal Essences Texturizing Wax
    10.0

    Herbal Essences Texturizing Wax

    Favorite at my house!

This is my fiance's favorite product to use in his hair, and since I have super short hair, I use it sometimes as well. The texture is a little softer than what I usually go for, but a tiny bit is all I need. It holds really well and looks nice. The scent is nice--as you'd expect from Herbal Essences. It works really well applied to wet or dry hair (he applies it while his hair is wet, mine is usually dry...) and either way the hold lasts all day. The design of the jar is kind of strange--making it appear that you're getting more product than you are until you flip it over and see the bottom. But that's not a huge deal, really, just odd I guess. It's not my personal every day hair product, but I do recommend it for short hair!

  • The Body Shop Beeswax Texturizing Wax

I used to use this regularly for my pixie cut and right now I can't remember why I stopped! The texture is exactly what it says--wax--and the hold is amazing. It was always quick and easy to style my short hair the way I like with this product. The price is reasonable (last time I bought it, anyway) and a little goes a long way, which makes it even more budget friendly! The Body Shop is definitely a brand I trust and I think I may pick up another jar of this the next time I need to refill my hair product.
