I have oily, sensitive skin, and because I'm a natural redhead, my moisturizer *must* have SPF in it. Unfortunately, while it is possible to find oil-free moisturizers with sunscreen, and oil-free moisturizers for sensitive skin, and moisturizers with sunscreen for sensitive skin, finding all three in the same product is a monumental challenge. I was delighted to discover DDF Daily Matte SPF 15, which not only contains sunscreen and does not irritate my skin, it also doesn't leave me super shiny. Even during a recent financially difficult period, when I gave up many of my other cosmetics as being not completely necessary, this product was always a necessity.

I buy Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Liquid Castille Soap by the jug and use it for, well, everything. I dilute it half and half with water in my hand soap pumps (at full strenght, it's way too drying, plus even the label says "Dilute! Dilute! Dilute!"). I use it whenever I need to clean anything in my household. There is even a Tablespoon or so in my homemade vinegar-and-water glass cleaner (adding a small amount of liquid soap helps to remove the waxy buildup left by commercial glass cleaners over the years). I have a friend who swears by it as a laundry detergent. In addition to smelling pleasant and having and energizing effect, peppermint is also a natural disinfectant. Peppermint, in fact, is one of the most useful herbs in existence. It's good for everything. So a good basic liquid castille soap with peppermint oil - what could be more natural, or more perfect?

The blush I wear most (when I wear blush at all)
I tend to stay away from products that add "colour" (i.e. redness) to your face, since I tend to be fighting redness most of the time. After all the effort I put into getting rid of it, I don't want to add more! But Nars blush in 0rgasm is a lovely blush that doesn't go on too heavy, and doesn't make me look like I was out in the sun too long, or worse, like I got slapped in the face, like some blushes do. It adds just a bit of a flush - and that's really all I need.

My favorite deordorant
I 've been using Tom's of Maine deodorant in the Woodspice scent for almost 20 years now. I switched from the antiperspirant/deoderant I'd been using since high school because I was concerned about the aluminum and other chemicals, and also because preventing yourself from sweating is just not healthy. On top of that, I have multiple chemical sensitivities and am allergic to most synthetic fragrances (such as the ones found in most commercial antiperspirants/deoderants). The fragrance in Tom's of Maine comes from natural essential oils, and doesn't trigger my allergies. On really hot days, or days where I do a lot of physical activity, I do sometimes have to reapply, but most of the time, I just need to apply once when I get up. I should note that in the process of switching to a more natural, less toxic form of odor protection, I tried a variety of brands, and this was the only one I found that worked reasonably well and actually lasts through more than a few hours of normal activity. One of the things I really like about it is that it prevents the really stinky odors caused by bacteria, but does not cover up or eliminate my own natural musky scent, which my husband finds, shall we say, quite pleasing. And that, for me, is the bottom line.

Great mascara for sensistive skin/eyes
This is my favorite mascara. I love it because it is not too thin, or too goopy. I can wear it all day without my lashes feeling dry and stiff like they do with some other mascaras. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I haven't had any problems with bleeding or flaking. That could be because I use the brown shade rather than the black shade. It coats my pale red lashes easily and gives them enough colour to be visible without screaming I'M WEARING MASCARA, which is the effect I get when I use black mascara. On top of that, It goes on easily and with minimal clumping, stays put all day, even when I forget and rub my eyes briefly, and then comes off just as easily when it's time to get ready for bed. But the number one reason why I like Stila Major Lash is because it doesn't irritate my eyelids or my eyes. I know there are other mascaras out there that are better at this thing or that thing or that are just fabulous, perfect all-over mascaras. Unfortunately, most of them achieve their fabulosity through the use of esoteric chemical ingredients that do not agree with my body. I can wear Stila Major Lash all day, and it doesn't make my eyes sting, nor does it irritate the skin on the edge of my eyelid(!). And yes, having the edges of your eyelids all red and rashy and puffy and irritated is not only not attractive, it's extremely uncomfortable as well. Very few mascaras are able to accomplish this, That it's generally a good all-around mascara as well is simply a wonderful bonus.

Great for Chicken Pox (and pretty much any other kind of skin irritation you might have)!
My oldest son has chicken pox, and after soaking in a tub full of hot water and Aveeno Soothing Bath Treatment for 15 minutes, he informed me that not only was he not itchy anymore, but that his poxes had actually visibly shrunk. The colloidal oatmeal actually draws the toxins and irritants out of the poxes, so the effect lasts for some time after you get out of the bath. After taking one bath with this product this afternoon, he didn't complain about the itchiness again for the rest of the evening. I wish my mom had known about this when I had chicken pox - it works even better than baking soda.

The Best Diaper Creme Ever!
When my eldest son was a baby, he had problems with diaper rash. Regular diaper cremes containing zinc oxide made his rash much worse. One of the moms on my unassisted birth list recommended Burt's Bees Baby Bee Skin Creme as a diaper creme. I got a jar and gave it a try, and my son's rash cleared right up. After we started using it regularly, we never had diaper rash problems again. In addition to being highly effective, it smells scrumptious, and since it's made with all natural ingredients, it's basically edible, so if your child decides to taste it (as both of mine did at various times), it's no big deal. I subsequently recommended it to a friend who was having diaper rash problems with her own daughter, and after trying it, she raved about it as well. Even though Burt's Bees Baby Bee Skin Creme is not officially intended to be a diaper creme, it is the best diaper cream I have ever used.
