  • Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss

This gloss (in POP) is a somewhat sticky gloss with a sheer coral tint. The applicator is a brush – which I love. I’ve always had trouble with the doe foot applicators and getting the glosses on straight. (All the sheer colors of this gloss come with the brush – all the others come with a doe foot) This stuff seeps into my lip lines and evens everything out, while providing just a tiny bit of emphasis on the lips. This specific color also helps make my top and bottom lip colors match. It stays on for about an hour or so before I feel a need to re-apply, but it goes on nice and quick and easy. It has no real scent or flavor – which is fine – the last thing I need is to constantly lick my lips. It does feel like it moisturizes my lips which is something I require from a gloss.

  • Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes! Waterproof Mascara: Mascara

We’ll start with the brush. This has the typical cylindrical brush with a slight taper at the end. It is somewhat difficult for me to get the outside and inside lashes, but it is do-able and does just fine on the lower lashes. This formula is very different than any mascara I’ve tried before. It is actually somewhat liquidy. It is nice though, because it is thin enough that it doesn’t clump and allows the brush to easily separate lashes. Also as a result of the viscosity of the mascara, it is not very lengthening or volumizing, but it holds a curl really well! This mascara is waterproof, and they weren’t kidding. I had a sad event a few hours after application, and even with the waterworks this mascara did not budge. One really different and nice thing about this mascara is that once it is on, it doesn’t feel like you are wearing mascara. It is super light weight, and if you touch your lashes they don’t feel much different than they normally do. This mascara gives just a nice natural look. Its perfect for going to the beach or the gym, or anywhere you want to go where you don’t want to look like you are wearing makeup. I prefer more drama or a more intense look - It doesn't do everything I want so I'm not rating it more than "good"

    Tarte emphasEYES aqua-gel eyeliner

For a crayon I love it

The aqua-gel eyeliner is basically like any other eye crayon as far as how it looks. It is simple and is retractable with a twist. This liner, however, goes on with the smoothness I have never before experienced in a pencil/pen/crayon style liner. The bold lines are similar to those of a liquid or cream liner. Some people complain that the liner feels too cold when it goes on. It does indeed feel chilled when applied, but to me it feels really refreshing. Because the formula goes on so smooth you can achieve a very nice bold line. If you want more of a smudge, hurry up and do it quick because it does “dry” quickly. Mine is a dark brown. It is halfway between milk and dark chocolate in color. I would definitely recommend it and will probably get another some day.

  • Anastasia Lash Lifting Mascara

This mascara made its way into that stash and I gave it a chance for 2 months. My lashes are a medium brown color naturally and of average length and number. This mascara does add a nice dark black color and makes them appear longer. It does clump fairly annoyingly and also leaves little deposits of the waxy formula randomly on the lashes which is hard to remove without messing everything up. The wand works OK in the inner and outer most lashes, but not great and has a fairly blunt end. It also is very hard to use on my lower lashes. The formula is is thick and waxy and takes a lot of effort and wiggling to apply completely and uniformly. After about 10 hours it starts flaking and feeling clumpy and heavy – which is an issue for me with my 12 hour work days, and I have lots of mascara that can last the whole day. I use eyedrops, and while this is NOT waterproof mascara, I do expect it to last through a TINY bit of liquid that is not rubbed – it doesn’t. Was it bad enough to throw out immediately? NO Will I ever buy it again? NO Overall Impression, for a “high end” mascara it didn’t perform as nicely as I’d like. I expected better from the Eye expert Anastasia. I have many other mascaras I’ve used before and prefer to this one, including less expensive drug store brands.

  • Lancome Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Volume Mascara

Lets start with the brush. This has to be one of the scariest looking brushes ever, it curves every which way. As you rotate it around some areas have long dense bristles and other areas have short dispersed bristles (and everything between those extremes seems to be there too!). Even with the daunting shape I jumped right in. This wand is scary – and scary easy to use. Wiggling and twisting up was a breeze and the slight taper at the end of the brush worked great for detail work at the corners of my eyes and on the lower lashes. When I got a clump I’d simply rotate the brush a quarter or half turn, try those new bristles, and inevitably the clump would be combed out! The formula is nice. It is thick but not clumpy or overly dense. It goes on really smooth and any clumps it does leave come off nice and easy. For whatever reason I’m used to my mascaras leaving my lashes still somewhat flexible. These were hard after application almost as if I had taken hairspray and sprayed my lashes with it -that is the only downside to me. This mascara is great.

  • Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

    Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

loved it enough I used it for my wedding

The claim is that it provides a perfect base for a foundation for a flawless natural look. Smashbox says that it helps minimize the appearance of fine lines as well as be light feeling and long lasting. I like it, the primer does have a light feel – almost like a silicone feel. It goes on really smoothly and lasts. It lets me use half as much of my foundation or tinted moisturizer since those don’t soak into my skin really anymore. After using I saw fewer/smaller pores, a more refined texture, and somewhat fewer fine lines and wrinkles. I would recommend this. Aside from the benefits of helping your skin’s textural appearance it does let you use less of your other product, and if you have a $60.00 foundation like me, you will like that. I should mention that there are some of these that have a tint to them. The product I reviewed is the original – “colorless”

  • Ouidad Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel

The product claims to defriz curls without leaving them crunchy. I followed their “rake and shake” instructions where you start at the nape of your neck and apply a small amount of product by raking your hands through your hair then shaking it to get the curl reset. This is done in chunks until you’ve gotten all your hair. I was at first super impressed – wow, it really did a nice job of enhancing my natural curls. Until it dried. I’m not sure where they got the “no crunch” from but my hair felt like straw once it was dry. The next day I brushed it out and it got better – but it still wasn’t great. My overall impression is that I will not be purchasing this ever. I suppose I’ve had crunchier hair from other products, but I’d rather not have any crunch.

  • Shaveworks The Cool Fix

    Shaveworks The Cool Fix

    Soothing and wonderful

Here is the products claim “This formula combines powerful exfoliating agents to help release trapped hairs from underneath the skin, kill bacteria, and prevent ingrown hairs from reoccurring. It spreads quickly and evenly over skin, offering clinical levels of soothing relief for irritated patches under the arms, in the bikini area, or on the legs.” I use an epilator, mostly because I hate shaving and this cuts down the frequency a bunch. As a result though, I get really irritated skin for the next day that itches. I also get ingrown hairs if I don’t exfoliate my legs. In comes Shaveworks to the rescue! After the last time I epilated (Wednesday) I slathered this stuff on. It felt cooling – almost like when you put aloe on your sunburn. It went on very nicely and a little went a long way. Within about 15 minutes the normal irritation had gone away. No itching ever started, and today I’ve looked and I don’t really see any in grown hairs. It is a chemical exfoliator so you don't feel a roughness on your body, and you also don't have to remove the product. I no longer do any sort of hair removal without this product as an immediate follow-up

  • June Jacobs Papaya Purifying Enzyme Masque

June Jacobs Papaya Purifying Enzyme Masque

Not my favorite mask but not too bad either

This product claims to disolve dead skin cells and brighten the complexion without causing irritation as well as help with wrinkles, hydrate, and protect the skin. There are a TON of fruit extracts in there. Once you open it you will find a pleasant scented cream. It is the consistancy of a light body butter. It really feels like you are puting lotion on your face – very different from the other masks I’ve used. I put it on and then in a few minutes hopped in the shower. It was on my face for probably 6 minutes before I washed it away (suggested use is 3-10 minutes). As advertised I felt no irritation, no burning, no scratching. I also found my face feeling freshly moisturized for the rest of the day. I personally didn’t notice any brightening or complexion help (which is why it only got 7 stars) – but it did feel nice.

  • Tarte emphasEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner Pot

Tarte emphasEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner Pot

    Perfect eyeliner for any occasion

This is my favorite eyeliner ever. I’ve always had trouble with pencils and getting both full coverage, a nice shaped line, and avoiding my eyes feeling like they are being abused. On liquid liners I don’t feel like I have much control, and if I want to make the line less sharp I can’t really. In comes the Tarte emphasEYES cream eyeliner. This is part of their Amazonian clay makeup line. It is a waterproof cream liner. I typically use the pure black one, but I also have the purple, the green, and the bronze. The colors are rich and true. What you see is what you get. This formula is is creamy and goes on smoothly. It comes with a liner brush that has a fine tip for lining on one end and a small densely packed brush for smudging on the other end. I typically will smudge along my lower lashes but keep it nice and crisp on my upper lashes. I’ve also found the smudge end is perfect for applying powder to my eyebrows. I’ve heard people complain that it dries out quickly. On that – a major tip is to only open it when you are going to use it and tighten it completely after use. Most of mine haven’t dried out, but my bronze did start drying out a few weeks ago. I added just a tiny bit of moisturizer to it and after a few days the liner had soaked it in and worked as good as new. Another tip to avoid the drying is to only take product only from one place in the jar. I find that I get the most useful product when I insert the liner brush vertically into the jar and twist it around. During application I can then twist the brush when I run low on product and continue my line. I’ve spent a lot of time rubbing swatches and even a couple washes the liner remains there, and that rubbing is heavy compared to anything your eye would encounter. I work 12 hour days so the staying power on makeup is extremely important to me. This stuff makes it through and then some. It does come off fairly easily with my Oil Free Neutrogena makeup remover.
