  • Suave Professionals Captivating Curls Cream Mousse

It took a few tries to get this mousse to work for me, but now that I've figured it out, I am in LOVE! I have type 2a wavy hair, fine, medium thickness. The first couple of times I used this, the results were not impressive. My hair was limp and flat with no more wave than if I had done nothing to it. BUT it was also soft and shiny and what few waves I had were nicely defined. Here's the method that works for me: After showering, I squeeze the excess water from my hair, then put in 1-2 golf ball size dollops. I rake it through, scrunch by hand and with an old t-shirt to make sure all the white streaks are gone, then I plop it for 30 minutes in a microfiber turban towel. (If you're a wavy and don't know what plopping is, look up some YouTube videos on it. It makes a huge difference!). Then I take it down, and arrange my hair the way I want it and spray some Suave captivating curls spray gel on it for hold. If I have time, I'll diffuse it a little bit and spritz some Suave Volumizing spray at the roots and dry the roots a bit and I'm good to go! My hair comes out in beautiful, beachy waves. The second day, all I do is spritz some water and spray gel on my hair and scrunch it a little and I'm done. So far, my hair has looked even better on the second day than the first for some reason. Definitely give this a try and play with it if it doesn't work for you at first. I will say, that for my hair type, it did not give me much volume, which is why I use the volumizing spray. But all the products are so cheap, that I don't mind using three.

  • Suave Professionals Captivating Curls Spray Gel

Suave Professionals Captivating Curls Spray Gel

Great for finishing and for touch ups!

I agree completely with my fellow reviewer who said this gel combined with Suave Captivating Curls Whipped cream mousse are a winning combination. You can use it on it's own, but I've gotten the best results by putting the mousse in my hair first, plopping it, and then when I take it down, I spritz this gel (not too much) on my curls and gently scrunch. The next day, I don't wash my hair--I simply spritz my hair all over with water, gently scrunch the curls back in, spritz more of this gel and scrunch again. This has given me the best looking hair of all the products I've tried so far, high end or low end. For reference, I have type 2a wavy hair, that is very limp and drab on it's own. I used to straighten it because I didn't think I had enough curl to work with, but since I've found this combo, I have LOVED my hair wavy and natural! This may be the first time in my life that I"ve ever loved my hair!

Herbal Essences Set Me Up Gel

    Left my hair flat

Unfortunately, this product was not a "holy grail" for me. I have type 2a wavy, fine, moderately thick hair. Every time I've used this product, it has left my waves and hair drab and flat. Luckily, it was cheap and I'm glad it works for other people, but I've had no luck with it. So far, Suave Captivating Curls Spray gel works better for me and it is also cheap!

  • Redken Soft Spin 05 Curl-Enhancing Gel

Redken Soft Spin 05 Curl-Enhancing Gel

    Good for fine, wavy hair

I have to agree with the previous reviews. I, too, have fine, wavy hair and this works great. It's the first gel I've tried that doesn't weigh my hair down. And seems to hold the curl all day. I will say, I don't rake it through like some people do with gel. I take a tiny bit and rub it between my hands and smooth it on and then scrunch it through. I don't seem to need a lot, and it enhances my waves and curls nicely.

  • Suave Professionals Volumizing Root Boost Spray

This is the first root lifter/volumizer I have tried, so I don't know how it compares to others. However, it does exactly what I need it do: Gives me lift at the roots without frizziness. I have type 2a-2b wavy hair and I'm trying to use as little heat as possible. However, I can't let my hair air dry completely or it just looks plastered to my head. I spray this on my damp or dry roots and lift and blow dry just enough to dry where I've sprayed. My roots stay lifted without frizziness. It seems to add some shine, too, so that's a bonus!

  • Paul Mitchell Round Trip Liquid Curl Definer

I have type 2a wavy hair--the kind that can actually get great waves at the beach, but otherwise, the curls look limp and flat. I usually straighten it, but after reading the Curly Girl handbook, I decided to try embracing my waves. I figured the right product could get me the same gorgeous waves I get at the beach. Sadly, I have not found that product. Round Trip did give me soft hair, but it had a negative effect on my curls. I had less curl than I do when I don't use any product. I'm glad it works for some, but this did nothing for me.
