    Revlon ColorSilk

    Why even make this???

I know the most expensive products aren't always the best, and I'm also not afraid of a possible little mishap that might result in a second trip to the hair color aisle in one night, or even a new hairstyle. So I decided to try to save some money on this. This haircolor looked great after rinsing and drying, but faded so quickly - and near my roots. I recently tried it again in a lighter color (after I'd stripped my hair), and it did the same thing in another shade. You'll spend even more than you would have originally buying this hair color and then another box that's the color you actually want, so skip this brand and go for something a bit more reputable.

    E.L.F. Essential Shimmering Facial Whip

Had to revise my review ...

Now that I use this product in the daylight, I see that it settles into my pores in a very unflattering way. I can tell that the product is good quality for even $5 or $7, let alone the $1 that it's priced at. I probably need to do more work minimizing my pores, but until that happens, if I try to use the shimmer to highlight my cheeks, I am left with two matching lunar landscapes on either side of my face. Girls with pore issues, beware! (FYI - I didn't know I *had* pore issues until I used this makeup...)

    E.L.F. Liquid Eyeliner

    Eye Irritation

I don't ask for much in my liquid liner ... Wet and Wild is as good as the best I've ever come across and for the price, why not? I spotted this brand's liner in gold glitter and had to have it to play with! When I washed my face at the end of the day, my eyes burned and continued to for quite awhile. I know there were tiny specks of glitter in it, but the reaction of the liner with my Noxzema, or just the liner itself, caused a bad reaction. As to the liner itself, the glitter liner goes on evenly, with a good brush applicator and consistent coverage (no gloops of glitter followed by a blank space in the line). The gold glitter has less of a Berlin nightclub vibe than just a fun pop of shimmer, so I like that about it. However, I'll have to remember to wipe this off if I wear it again, not just wash my face. Yeeeeow.

  • Aveeno Skin Relief Calming Lotion

I have rosacea and I'm always on the lookout for cooling and calming products. This one is nice! Although it's body lotion, I've used it on my face for a cooling blast of relief. The scent is vaguely medicinal from the menthol, and a little goes a long way so this big squeeze-tube should last a long time. It's also very soothing on tired feet (and cheaper than Burt's Bees or comparable peppermint foot lotions). The downsides are that the lotion doesn't fully absorb, which leaves a greasy residue on your skin or hands. Also, the tingling from the menthol can sometimes leave your skin feeling warmer than before. It did nothing for the redness of my rosacea, but since my skin becomes hot to the touch during breakouts, it did a good job putting the kibosh on that and cooling it down. Even when the menthol warmed it back up, it was nowhere near as bad as before. I'd recommend this! But it doesn't pass the doorknob test.

    CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain

    Pointless to Use

I would like a good lip stain to look like I just ate fresh berries. Instead, this lip stain looks like I applied $2 lipstick about six hours ago. My lips were dry, unevenly colored, the color feathered (when has that happened to anyone since the 80s?!), and I had to really bear down on my poor lips with the tip to get any color to show up at all. This is a pass.

    Almay Intense i-color Satin-i kit

    Green Eye Kit Strange

The kit for green eyes includes a mint green shade, an olive green, and a deep purple. I've never found that accentuating my green eyes with green shadow makes them pop, but I assumed these color combinations are researched and tested, so I tried this kit. The shadow goes on smoothly and doesn't crease, but despite my following the instructions on the package as to the placement of the colors, and despite going real easy on the purple, I still looked bruised. I tried it several times and each time, I looked like I had black eyes. These colors look lovely together in the package, and probably also in room decor or stationary or even clothing. On my eyes, though, it just looked sickly. This is a pass.

  • Developlus Color Oops Hair Color Remover

Developlus Color Oops Hair Color Remover

Works, but a Pain to Use!

This stuff works, but you really have to follow every step to the letter. I didn't rinse for long enough, apparently (although I rinsed for the indicated 15 minutes, the instructions noted more rinsing could only help). What happens if you don't fully rinse all the product out is that, while it will look the way you want it to that same day, the next time you shampoo it, the darker color will come back. This happened to me, but only at the ends of my hair (that had been dyed the most over the years) and the discrepancy in color was so great and unattractive that I actually cut those parts of my hair off. You also need to use a color filler if you intend to re-color your hair the same day, so this isn't always an emergency fixed. To top it all off, this stuff smells very strongly of sulfur and I was gagging while using. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I recommend bleaching (try the bleach in the approx. $6 Splat color kit) and starting over. Five stars because it does actually work - it's just suuuuuuch a pain.

  • Herbal Essences Body Envy 2-in-1 Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner

I have thick hair, but love a little bit of extra lift at the roots, so I was attracted to this shampoo. I had a terrible experience with Aussie's Aussome Volume, so I was leery, but I found this worked well. I have dark color-treated hair, so I can easily spot buildup, and this left none. It also left my hair easy to comb (no mean feat) a and peppy at the roots. We all know Herbal Essences shampoos smell wonderful, too! I would recommend this.

    Aussie Aussome Volume Shampoo

    Makes My Hair Break Combs!

I grew my hair out for the first time since I was little last year. It's quite thick, but I was looking for root lift and more body, and I thought a volumizing shampoo might be a place to start. Turns out that simply thinning my hair would've done a better job than this. This shampoo made my thick hair a huge Brillo pad. The texture was worse than straw, and trying to comb it afterwards broke so many combs I don't remember the total. "Parting" my hair after using this product revealed an actual net of wiry, stiff hair with soap bubbles still embedded in weird places. If you already have thick hair and for some reason want more volume, I'd say don't use this. It may help some with fine hair, but for regular-to-thicker hair looking for extra lift, expect a wet rat's nest after toweling off.

  • Aussie Instant Freeze Hair Spray (Aerosol)
    9.0

Aussie Instant Freeze Hair Spray (Aerosol)

Does exactly what it says it will

This hairspray does instantly freeze a style ... even more so if you apply hair spray, then target your blowdryer on the style for about ten seconds. I had a short, spiky do for years and this was my must-have item to get my spikes to stand up. When I grew my extraordinarily thick hair out, I still continued to turn to it to anchor updos and to re-train my hair out of its old part. If you need serious hold, this is the thing to buy. However, if you expect to be able to run a brush - even a hand - through your hair after applying hairspray, this is not what you want. It's like cement for the hair. Also, that kind of hold comes with a couple of negatives (well worth it for me). If you get it on your hand, you need to wash it off - not rinse it, wash it with soap. It's very sticky. It smells hairspray-ish, not fresh or invigorating or anything. Also, this is not a hairspray to use and then fall asleep in. If you have short hair, you can go a couple of days without washing, but that's it, and no more than that if you have long hair. Your hair will mat and clump. But hey - the hold is hardcore.
