Here are all my reviews:
  • Dove Sensitive Skin Unscented Beauty Bar

I am highly sensitive and easily develop bad reactions, especially to products with perfume. Dove sensitive skin unscented soap is the ONLY one I use. I stay stocked up so I never run out -- and when I travel I ALWAYS take with me, so I don't have to run risks with hotel soaps.

Neutrogena Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner

    works on my color-treated hair

I have thick, wavy, slightly coarse hair with highlights, and this does a wonderful job of making it soft and silky. And I hate perfumes, so the mild fragrance is a plus for me.

MAC Tinted Lip Conditioner SPF 15

    OK, but there's better

I'd heard such good things about this that I really wanted to like it, but in all honesty I experience it as just OK. It's definitely better than some, but the moisturizing doesn't last long enough. I've been carrying mine around in my purse for a year, but I find I keep reaching instead for my Burt's Bees tinted balm, which I feel blows this away in the moisturizing department plus is quicker to apply. Also, it's only half the price of this.

  • Chapstick True Shimmer

    Chapstick True Shimmer

reminded me of the 70s -- not in a good way

The shimmer reminded me of the look of the lip products they marketed to teens when I was one (the 70s!) -- and it isn't even as moisturizing as a regular Chapstick.

  • Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lipcolor

Honestly, I'm not quite sure what to make of this lipstick yet. I first tried it because of the reviews here, and my first purchase was in Warm Me Up, which is in the “Natural” palette. I figured it was safe because it’s close to my natural lip color, just a little deeper and rosier. Based on this first purchase, I was ready to rate it a 10. It went on smooth and creamy without any primer or liner, settled in, and stayed in place for hours. Even after eating, when it felt like it was gone, I’d check and discover there was still plenty of pigment. I’d just apply a clear lip balm for moisture and keep going. Very excited at this find, and looking for a good nude lip color, I bought a second one in the “Natural” palette called Warm Latte, which looked like a soft pinky-beige. I was unpleasantly surprised to discover that once applied this color looks more orange-y than either the color label on the tube, or the lipstick itself, would suggest. Since I need blue undertones, this color looks terrible on me. I’ve never worn it out of the house. Unfortunately, because I was so happy with my first purchase I made the mistake of buying the second one from Target, which doesn’t take returns of opened makeup, so the second one is going in the trash. However, I’m going to give this product an 8 based on the excellent first experience, and I’ll probably try more colors – just being more careful to look for blue undertones.

  • CLINIQUE CHUBBY STICK INTENSE
    8.0

    CLINIQUE CHUBBY STICK INTENSE

    great color & coverage

This is the first Clinique product I've tried, and I like it. First of all, it goes on more like a matte lipstick, with much better coverage and color impact than other tinted lip balms I've tried, which go on more sheer. It moisturizes well, and makes my lips feel great. It lasts quite a while, although I do have to reapply it after eating. I got it in the lightest shade, Curviest Caramel. That name isn't really accurate because the color is closer to a light rosy taupe than to caramel, but it's a great natural color for me (I'm very fair skinned). I've been wearing it to work every day. I'm considering going back to get Chunkiest Chili as well, which is a soft brick red shade.

  • Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream SPF 15

I tried this after reading about it in an Editor's Pick article here, which said it had an average reader rating of 8 (how I wish I’d saved myself some time and clicked through to see the current average reader rating was lower). I’m very fair and so bought the lightest shade. I actually really liked how it looked on – I have mild rosacea, and this product covered it about 80-90%, and had a natural, dewy appearance. HOWEVER I’m also highly sensitive to perfumes, and unfortunately this product is in fact heavily perfumed. My heart sank the first time I opened it and smelled the strong fragrance, but I gave it a try. The first day I wore it, it was fine (although I felt like my head was in a perfume cloud for about the first hour). The second day I wore it, the skin on my face began to sting, and I had to wash it off. Luckily I’d bought it from a store that accepts returns of opened products, and I did return it. If this had been fragrance free, I would have considered it a terrific find. Too bad!

  • Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser

I have super sensitive skin – I’m very fair, have mild Rosacea, and over the years I've had reactions to various soaps, moisturizers and sun screen -- and even deodorant and under eye concealer. This cleanser is the only thing I've found that doesn't either irritate my face or dry it out. I started using it (along with a moisturizer for sensitive skin) after another product caused a flare up of Rosacea, and the Rosacea quickly settled down. I wash my face with it every morning and night, and I love how it makes my skin feel – not just clean and fresh, but almost palpably “calm.”

  • N.Y.C. New York Color Liquid Lip Shine Lipgloss
    4.0

N.Y.C. New York Color Liquid Lip Shine Lipgloss

beautiful color and shine -- but TOO sticky

This was an impulse buy, and I wish I’d read the reviews here first. First, the pros: the price is low (just over $3) and the color (I got Nude York City) is exquisite, as is the shine. The cons: this stuff is as sticky as flypaper. If I didn't have short hair, I don’t think I could wear it at all due to the stickiness factor. Plus, it feels annoyingly heavy on my lips, and has a cloying odor. I will probably wear it every now and then when I want a beautiful glossy nude lip – but I will never buy it again.

  • E.L.F. Bronzer
    10.0

    E.L.F. Bronzer

my best makeup deal so far

After reading the reviews here, I got this at Target for $3, and I'm really amazed at the value for the price. First, the bronzer itself looks terrific on, is not too dark for my fair skin (a problem I’ve had with other brands, even in the fairest shade), and you can use the lightest shade to highlight the tops of your cheekbones. Second, the case is solid and looks high end, and comes with a generously sized mirror. If the bronzer itself doesn't work for you, you've still got a mirror in a nice case for $3. You just can’t go wrong.
