  • Ardell Brow Sculpting Gel

I agree with Volta. Just bought this at a discount store and tried it out. My brows are on the natural side and I do struggle with their tendency to grow downwards. They're thin and fine and tend to do what they want. I bought this hoping I could get in the habit of taming them. But I can't tell if it's even really getting onto my brows! It's a clear formula and it's a very light gel-like product. But my brows don't seem to "change direction" like I'm hoping. I brush them and brush them, but there doesn't seem to be much going on in the way of visible improvement. Anyway, the product smells really nice and DOESN'T dry into a flake-fest. Maybe this would be better for someone with thicker brows? Oh, and anyway, the bottle broke after a week....I just kept the wand for future brow grooming. :)

  • Maybelline New York ExpertWear Eye Shadow Singles

I just bought two of the Expert Eyes singles in two different finishes - "Tastefully Taupe" from the Chic Naturals collection and "Cinnamon Spice" in the Stylish Smokes collection. These are hit or miss, depending on what you're looking for and what you like in a shadow. As a mature woman, I prefer subtle, sheer color that you can build up if you need to. These shadows offer a mix of pretty sheer and satin finishes all the way up to a more glitter-based shadow. I also have the Expert Eyes duo in "Forever Lilac" and can't use it - it's just a mess of light violet glitter that gets all over my face. I do like the pretty color and sheer finish of "Tastefully Taupe" - it's subtle with a gentle sheen. I'm not sure why everyone is giving these shadows such terrible reviews - I've used a few and it's hit or miss, as with anything. At least you won't be crying about losing a lot of money. ;)

  • Revlon ColorStay Nail Enamel

*UGH! This stuff is simply not good. After my THIRD TRY with this - I'm an eternal optimist - I had to go back and rate it a one. It chipped within four hours, the application was streaky and bubbled and the shine stayed on some nails and disappeared on others. Very unhappy! I went out and bought a glossy black from OPI and it's shiny, smooth and so much better. My Revlon Colorstay nail polish is now in the trash. * I just applied this in No. 270 (Stiletto) and am not so impressed. I tried it yesterday and had to take it off and try again today. Same results upon application - it's thick, goopy and bubbles way too easily. I do like the wide, flat brush but it seems to wipe all the color away on the first stroke and I was left with streaks. The streaks filled in fine with a second coat (the color is a glossy black) but the consistency of the second coat on top of the first seemed goopy. I think this is a newer version because there is no extra clear coat that came with it. I'll update in a few days to let you know how long it lasted. Oh, and when I removed the first waaay-too-bubbled attempt, it was super hard to remove and my nails looked dirty with bits of black polish on the sides, even after I used a remover-soaked cottonball-wrapped toothpick. Not looking forward to removing this application, truthfully. On the plus side, the finish does seem really shiny.

  • E.L.F. Studio Cream Eyeliner

    E.L.F. Studio Cream Eyeliner

    Dry and Unpleasant

I bought this in the purple/eggplant shade at Target for super cheap. And I now know why. It was very dry right out of the jar. I was hoping for a moister, creamier consistency but this stuff was hard and dry. It took quite a few uncomfortable swipes on my eyelid for me to get the color payoff I wanted and it just wasn't worth it for me. Too much work for too little reward. And the brush that came with it was useless. At least I didn't spend a ton of money on this!

  • L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Le Gloss

Oh-so-pretty, grown-up colors that are truly sophisticated, not sophomoric. Smooth, lightly creamy texture, glided on easily, soft yet pigmented color. The formula tastes and smells very much like vanilla cake batter to me ~ not unpleasant but somewhat strong so beware if you're sensitive. It's comfortably moisturizing for my dry lips, not sticky. I bought a gorgeous shade called Saucy Mauve - a deep peachy coral color that does have sparkles, but they're very subtle on application, not loud or ridiculous. I'm really just loving this gloss....UPDATE: Just went and bought another tube in the shade Nude Illusion - a super-pretty nude with the softest golden glimmer. I probably will be going back and buying more shades - the colors are so gorgeous. These do not stay on very long, but the tube is so easy to use and carry with you that touch-ups are quick and painless. Yup, I LOVE this gloss!

  • Sally Hansen 5 Minute French Manicure Pen Kit

Sally Hansen 5 Minute French Manicure Pen Kit

Just Used The Pen ~ Pretty Cool!

This is a total hit or miss, depending on the user's sense of patience. I'm totally new to French Manicures and just found out how to do them at home because of a few really good tutorials on YouTube. I've realized that to get a good French Manicure that's clean and pretty, it's going to take some time ~ using a pen or brush. I just bought the pen yesterday to see how it worked. This stuff is a tad runny, but I just pushed it lightly onto a piece of paper to get rid of the initial "flood" of product and then did a swipe on my tips. I'm finding that if you do keep a bit more product on the tip, the application comes out much nicer and smoother. If you apply it without enough product, it leaves streaks. I'm very patient and not worried about mistakes though ~ I just wiped it off and redid it until I was happy. This stuff comes off SUPER EASY in seconds and DRIES SUPER FAST....so mistakes are easily remedied. I love the idea of a pen and the ease of use instead of having to drag out the brush, the polish remover and waiting forever between coats and then cleaning up the line, etc. This is just a couple swipes and it dries in no time. Works for me! I probably will do some clean up on my left hand (always problematic for me), but other than that, it looks pretty good. I'm happy!

  • Sally Hansen Diamond Strength No Chip Nail Color

Sally Hansen Diamond Strength No Chip Nail Color

Fuschia Bling-Bling Is My Summer Must!

I've already gone through a bottle of this color ~ it's a happy, lush, bright pink/fushcia ~ a near-match to Essie's "Big Spender" shade. I've used it on both tips and toes and it seems to last me about four/five days without chipping. I ALWAYS do two coats and use a top-coat, so that may have something to do with it. The two polishes I have now haven't thickened or turned gloopy...very little, if any, that I've noticed anyway. Love the little faux diamond on the bottle ~ very clever! I have this in both Fuschia Bling-Bling and Diamond (a really pretty, silvery sparkle/clear shade that offers a lovely, unusual gleam in direct light but is actually very subtle and unnoticeable otherwise ~ a nice touch to a French Manicure as a top coat). I've used Sally Hansen on and off for years and I've always really liked it. I do buy higher end polishes, but this is a great product too. No complaints here.

  • RoC RETINOL CORREXION Deep Wrinkle Daily Moisturizer SPF 30

I'd previously only given this a "1" rating, due to not being able to get past the strong chemical odor of this product. But I was in a pinch and couldn't find my regular Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle moisturizer in the store when I ran out, so I reluctantly turned to this tube that I'd bought and only tried once. Ugh ~ it still smells, but IT'S WORKING! I'd noticed several very fine lines around and under my eye area and they're now all but vanished. My eye area looks smooth and wrinkle-free. My combination skin is fairly normal, aside from occasional bouts of rosacea and acne. I'm 40 but my skin is relatively smooth, luckily. Anyway, I absolutely HATE the smell of this stuff but I have to give credit where credit is due. This stuff is expensive, smelly and can be greasy, but it works. However, I'm so paranoid that other people can also smell it, that I probably will go back to Neutrogena Daily Anti-Wrinkle cream and using this at night. I just wanted to set my own personal review straight. Excellent but smelly product!

  • L'Oreal Paris HiP Studio Secrets Professional Concentrated Shadow Duos

I have two of these, one is a gorgeous forest green/gold combo and the other is a magenta/eggplant combo. One of them came with a broken mirror and only one applicator. The green/gold combo, called Lively, is my favorite. I love the richness of the color and I usually apply it dry with the included sponge-tip applicator. It feels silky and smooth on my lids and the color really is rich and intense ~ you just have to build to get to the level of intensity you want. I prefer this, as sometimes I want just a wash of color and then at other times, I want more drama and am glad when I know that the product can deliver. This is a quality eyeshadow and I find I'm using this more and more. And lots of colors to choose from, which is awesome.

  • Wen Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner

Was excited that my friend let me use it on a weekend trip we took, because I'd seen the infomercials and was curious. To be fair and honest, my hair is not problematic - it's in a virgin state, long and fairly straight and it does frizz in humidity. I'm not sure what I was expecting ~ some miracle that would make my hair look unbelievably perfect, I guess ~ but nothing happened. Nothing. The infomercial promised I'd be able to see a difference with the very first use. Nope! Maybe only for people with really dry, damaged hair?My friend said this stuff was expensive, but that it worked for her colored, heat-styled hair. I'll stick with my Suave Humectant S & C because it works for me. I'm so not into getting sucked into a payment plan and having to empty bottles and bottles for any results. I just ignore the infomercials now that I did get to try it.
