  • Givenchy Phenomen' Eyes

i'm pretty sure like most negative reviewers of this product, i was beyond excited to try this originally- hoping to find the mascara of all mascaras. i know how to put on mascara, and i don't feel it was something i just need to get the jist of; i tried it for a week. the reviews of this item were love/hate, but those that hated it kept mentioning it's never-ending tackiness. COMPLETELY true. i notices streaks under my eyes and an hour after application it was still not completely dry!! that's NEVER happened before with a mascara, even after several coats! even if you wipe of the excess on the tip of the sphere, and trust me you do need to or you would have tammy faye baker lashes, it seems like you're getting too much. the logic is that the sphere will allow you to get where you couldn't before with a regular brush and also control more precisely where you put the mascara. For me, it didn't; just an instant clump inducer. i hoped instead the shape of the brush would deliver gently grouped lashes (like a common faux lash effect)- not at all. so not only was the application bad, the formula was too. smudgy and tacky. the tube doesn't squeeze off excess when pulling out the wand. the price is outrageous too. i really really wanted to like this but at the end i realized it sounded too good to be true. maybe after i forget the experience, i'll give it another try. if your looking for ultra precision and finding the tiniest lashes, go for Maybelline Lash Discovery instead (with a whopping $22 price difference!!) i was just glad sephora takes back used merchandise!!

  • Maybelline New York Lash Discovery Mini-Brush Washable Mascara

if you are searching for great control with a mascara then this will give it to you, thanks to the mini brush. i've still yet to see a similar brush. the formula is also part of the plus side to this mascara, one that looks naturally dramatic and isn't clumpy at all, even after several coats. it also wears great. i judge my mascaras based on their overnight wear. even though it's a major makeup no-no, i many times wear my mascara to bed. this one can actually hold up a 2nd day without flakes, or smearing (and doesn't get on my pillow case). yet it removes easily with a facecloth and a little soap. i always have this plus at least another mascara in my bag. it's great for the outer and inner corners and the lower lashes, if you're so inclined. i like to lightly group lashes together with this for a faux lash look. if i do the outer corners just right, i definitely look like i have falsies on. those who are tempted by Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes thinking they will get extreme precision, should stick with this instead, especially after the major price difference. *i only gave it 8 stars because i feel it does take a little more than average effort to get my desired look.

  • Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream
    10.0

    Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream

one of the most emollient moisturizers ever!!

me and my best friend found out about this dream cream when we were subscribers to consumer reports magazine/website and also avid readers of Paula Begoun's "Don't go to the cosmetic's counter without me" book series. This moisturizer made it to the top of both list due to it's great ingredients and price point. It contains great water binding agents (what makes a moisturizer last) and is never going to irritate sensitives skins. NOT PERFUMED. i fill up travel tubes and throw it in my purse. i was thinking of adding a scented oil, but never got around to it. it will completely moisture/heal the driest elbows, heels, knees, etc. The only other worthy competitor i've found is Renew lotion from Melaleuca. (that one is thinner, has a pump, but is way harder to find)

Make Up For Ever Eyelashes - Strip

    amazing assorted lashes

i have to give them high marks based on the sheer variety of styles available. AND they provide a mini tube of glue that's opalescent. dries that way too. i'm still not a pro at putting on my own lashes and cleaning them so i can reuse them but that's not something i can hold against these. i wore "Genevieve" for my wedding. natural yet dramatic.

  • MAC Lip Conditioner SPF 15
    9.0

    MAC Lip Conditioner SPF 15

one of my favorite lip products

i loved this when it was in a different container, then MAC overhauled their whole skincare line. now with the sleek look and rubberized top it's cuter, not sure if the size is bigger, although it looks it. the scent like most of MAC lip products is vanilla frosting with a sugary taste; doesn't hurt to have a nice smelling/tasting lip product for once. it appears a little luminescent in the pot and it definitely isn't purely clear, a little opal. it's not too thin, not too thick. i do think it softens a bit, however it wouldn't "heal" severely dry or cracked lips- it's a conditioner not a treatment. it is a good base for lipstick. i don't agree with another reviewer that you need a brush--pots are primarily for finger use, but it is a little unsanitary to use your finger. but with MAC, 6 empty containers = 1 free lipstick at any counter so that doesn't hurt!!

  • Napoleon Perdis Dream Cream For Face

i stumbled upon this one time while poking around sephora. the smell is great, unique; like a light dessert smell, almost a marshmallow scent. it moisturizes amazingly well without being greasy at all. the moisture really lasts all day and a hazelnut size drop will be more than enough for the whole face. i've used it in summer and in the winter. it does have a mica shine in it. it never bother me, because it's subtle. not glitter, mica. so while the tube might presumably last a good few months, the $75 dollar price tag turned me away when MAC moisturizers work so well. and ultimately, it's difficult to find. sephora no longer carries it.

  • MAC Cremesheen Glass
    9.0

    MAC Cremesheen Glass

    one of my favorite glosses.

i'm gravitated to glosses as i don't care for lipstick. Great smell (i hate smelly makeup!), kind of like vanilla frosting. creamy to apply, can be built up for extra intensity, but not sticky. last fairly well. one of the only glosses that doesn't give me a ring around my lips. i'm in love with a color "ever so rich" which is a baby violet pink. i'm always buying nudes and pale pinks attempting to mask my naturally red lips. MAC's cremesheen has a brush applicator. At the time of this review "ever so rich" was limited edition however i've been told it's so popular they're considering making it a regular. always consider MAC's "Back 2 MAC" recycling program where 6 empties gets you a free lipstick at any MAC counter. :)

  • Nars Blush

    Nars Blush

    great blush line

i too tried the infamous "orga*m" but it wasn't for me. too peachy , just washed my yellow toned complexion out. instead , like another reader, "Sin" has become my staple. Pretty steep price for blush, but it lasts forever. Daily use, i had mine about 6 months. These blushes are beautifully pigmented and have great textures. I myself own Sin (berry with golden shimmer), Outlaw (coral rose w. shimmer), Mata Hari (vibrant petal pink), and Orga*m. Unique colors (and names!).

    Mustela Cold Cream Nutri-Protective

    winter's best defense

great moisturizer for cold climate or really dry patches that could be on a baby's face (maybe wind burn) a very little goes a long way. smells great. surprisingly not greasy at all for such a thick texture. don't think twice about using it yourself for whatever reason you'd need a super emollient cream. i use many mustela baby products for myself and my daughter. :P

  • Caudalie Instant Foaming Cleanser

i was a soap & facecloth girl (way too drying). then i separately removed eye makeup and foundation with cotton pads and respective removers (too many products, cotton hairs in eyes). when i was in an American Sephora store i searched for a cleanser that could remove makeup, wasn't too expensive (or at least concentrated) , non-drying and at least partially beneficial to my skin (either natural ingredients or vitamins). Well Caudalie Instant Foaming clenser is all those and an instant treat & pick-me up. 1 pump releases about a quarter-sized dollop of foam. that's all that's needed for a face with or with-out makeup. removes eye makeup too. (although might need a second pump for a full eye of mascara, shadow and liner) COMPLETELY non-drying (due to water and glycerin being its first 2 ingredients). if you have normal to oily skin this is GREAT, because it doesn't strip the moisture or force you to rush and apply moisturizer. i would think based on the 1 pump application you could have this 150ml/5 oz. bottle for 2months. (possibly more depending on if you really use it 2x per day, etc) i haven't yet finished mine. No parabens, artificial colors, or animal ingredients. soap free too. includes sage, grape and camomile extract. light fresh scent. and i'm thrilled that because i live in france, it's only approx. $17 here on out. hubby uses it too when i leave it by the sink.
