  • Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo

I have tried several of the products in this line. I am committed to using non-sulfate products since I color my hair. This is the best one I have tried so far. My hair is very long, thick, curly and a bit coarse. This product (I use it with conditioner, of course) is the best so far for keeping it calm, shiny and really soft. It does not seem to matter if I use the matching conditioner or not. I also like the fact that it is pretty inexpensive. I usually get it at Ulta and for example the day before yesterday they had a buy one get one free sale on all their Organix products. It smells really nice also as do all their products. I do think that if you use all the matching items (shampoo, conditioner, and even their Argan oil to be applied after you get out of the shower) that it makes the biggest difference. I have tried a LOT of products to calm down my hair and this is probably the one I like the best. Some shampoos (especially some of the sulfate-free ones) require more product since they do not lather as much as sulfate shampoos. This is the nature of the chemistry. Sulfate enhances lathering but on the downside it strips your hair. I did not feel that I had to use quite as much of this product as I did with others. It does lather quite easily and it rinses out easily as well. None of the sulfate-free shampoos do it quite as well as the ones containing that chemical but this one ranks higher than most. Maybe because of the Argan oil and/or other emollients in the product. Give this a try - especially those of you with thick and coarse hair. I think you will really enjoy this product.

  • bareMinerals Prime Time Eyelid Primer

I was trying to type this review on my cell and almost had the whole thing completed when I hit something and it vanished - ah well. I got a little tube of this as a combo from the Bare Escentuals outlet store. It came with a sample size of the face primer as well. So I used it up and thought (since I have not found another primer that i like) I would go ahead and spring for the regular size. I actually think this product is mediocre but I did like the small one better - I will address that issue in a minute. The regular size product has a sponge applicator that causes you to use way more product plus i do not like the way it applies it. With the small size I used my finger and it seemed to use less and apply it better. That way the product actually made it onto my eyelid and did not get reabsorbed into the sponge applicator. So try the mini combo - better deal and better applicator. Now for the product itself - it seemed like a nice base for shadow but I have oily lids - more than the rest of my face - so I really have a hard time with keeping shadow and liner in place. This product did not seem to perform better than any other in terms of not smearing, wearing off or just failing to adhere in the first place. I even tried to apply a bit more but this did not seem to make a difference in efficacy. I even applied the Bare Minerals foundation powder first but again this did not seem to help. There was no change in how the product worked depending on my application process. I am still looking for the HOly Grail of primers!

  • Thierry Mugler Violet Angel

I got a sample of this from a magazine and I have to say I find it a lot less appealing that the original. It also did not last at all - I applied it and the scent disappeared almost immediately. I guess it is possible that the application of the scent to the paper was inadequate but I have never had that happen before and I have tested hundreds of perfumes that way. I also reviewed the Alien scent which did like even though, it too, was quite different from the original. I had mentioned that usually brands tend to have similarities in their fragrances if the are in the same product line but i did not find that here. Between the lack of longevity and the lack of appeal of the scent itself I would definitely not purchase this product. Not to mention that the cost is prohibitively expensive.

    Interesting

I am having to do this review on my phone because my mouse on my Mac is about ready to bite the dust. I guess that proves what a geezer I am! I had to cut my last review short-sorry. Onward- this was another sample that I got from Sephora. Totally different from Angel which was my scent back in the day and I have not worn it in years. I liked this - it almost seems to me to have a masculine undertone. It lasted through the whole day and into the night during my travels back home on two different airplane trips. I want to try to compare it to Angel but I do not feel that they are really in the same category as would be most fragrances in the same line. But I do like it. The price point is a bit steep for me, though so I probably will not Be purchasing it.

  • Ojon Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Treatment

Good morning everyone. I got home late from my trip last night a nd I took a couple of sample packs from my latest Sephora order to try while I was away. And I really gave this one ample opportunity to do it's stuff. I put it on my hair before I went into the spa after I took a yoga class. Then I left it on for at least 30 minutes. I went into the steam room, then the jacuzzi, and just let it marinate on my hair. Then I went to wash my hair and it is so hard to wash out. Even though I did a good job of applying it evenly it seemed to clump up in my hair and wash really hard to remove. Plus, I do not think it did a single thing to improve the quality of my hair. So not only it is a pain to apply AND a pain to wash out, it did not give me any increased shine, softness, or anything else that I thought was noteworthy.

  • Patricia Wexler M.D. Dermatology MMPi Skin Regenerating Serum

I have been using this product off and on over the last several years and it is by far my most favorite product for daytime. It goes on like silicone it is so smooth and it immediately takes away any shine and erases fine lines the second it is applied. I do not know if this is supposed to be a feature of the product but I have a very shiny face and it helps keep the shine down for the entire day no matter what product I have under it or over it. I also think over time whether you have it on or not it really helps to improve the texture of your skin. If you do some research on MMPi (which I have done for my training), it is an enzyme that helps prevent collagen breakdown. I initially tried it as part of a kit which includes the day and night creams and also the eye cream. It was an awesome deal and that, too, actually last quite a while. It is a bit pricey but Bath and Body Works carries it on their web site and it is often on sale or can be bought as some kind of online "deal". They used to carry her line in their stores but no more - that is a total bummer. It comes in a rather large container and a little bit goes quite a long way. It will easily last you many months. I think the normal price is in the $65 range. Well kids, I am off to Vegas for the annual American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine for the next 4 days so hopefully I will return with some groundbreaking new products and info on how we can help our skin and bodies be ever better.

  • Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara

I just reviewed the primer that I got with this mascara - both as little samples in a bag from Sephora. I really liked the fact that they state it is a "natural" product. I am always a bit leery of that statement and I find myself reading the ingredient list even more because often when that statement is made it is not in actuality quite true. Anyway, I really like this product a lot. I wear mascara maybe twice a year (no joke). My upper lashes are not bad. I actually have trouble getting my contacts into my eyes. My optometrist said "your lashes are too long and they keep getting in the way". So in this one feature I am lucky. However, my bottom lashes are nonexistent. But back to the review. I used this with it's accompanying primer and together I found this product to be really great. The mascara went on totally smoothly and had no clumping or pulling effect. It removed easily as well without any lash breakage or fallout. I said in my review of the primer that I wore them to a work function and did not change one other thing about my makeup regimen - mineral powder with warmth and lip gloss. It made a dramatic difference in my appearance. And using the primer first, I actually applied very little of the mascara. But I did apply a tiny bit to my bottom lashes since they are lacking completely and I ended up resembling the girl in the photo below who is applying her mascara. I would definitely buy this product in the future along with its accompanying primer. I really like the fact that it is in a sample size because the three month changeout period would arrive way before I actually used up the mascara. That is one thing I really appreciate about Sephora - they will offer samples and frequently sell a set together so you can try a bunch of different products.

  • Tarte Multipleye Primer

I got a little bag of products from Sephora recently and I will review 2 of them here that are supposed to be used in conjunction with each other. The first is Tarte Multipleye eyelash primer. I do not wear mascara hardly ever and I get paranoid that doing that will actually harm my lashes and cause them to be more sparse. So I am always on the lookout for products that are actually supposed to make them more heatlhy. I have only used this product a couple of times, but it did seem to really improve my lash length when applied before the accompanying mascara. I did not have a problem, either, when I went to remove the mascara. It came off smoothly and I did not see any lash breakage or fallout. This product is very easy to apply and does not cause any clumping nor did I have any kind of stickiness or pulling. It made my lashes substantially longer and perhaps even a bit thicker so the mascara actually ended up being more of the icing on the cake. I think I read somewhere else that this product may even be good for your lashes so I am all over that. I work in an Emergency Department so I do not wear a lot of makeup - particularly on my eyes. I think I used this before a fundraiser and I wore all the rest of my regular arsenal - mineral powder with sparse blush (warmth) and lipgloss. Just adding this made a HUGE difference in my appearance. I could tell a real difference and so could my colleagues. I read periodically that makeup artists say you should not apply mascara to your bottom lashes. Well, mine are really out of proportion to my top lashes which are not that bad. The lower ones are super sparse so I applied a bit there and it did just looked like the girl in the photo below.

  • Mark Very Sassy Eau De Parfum Spray

I think this is a great scent for everyone. It is a little bit sweet but not at all overpowering. I have received a ton of compliments. It is listed in the mark line but anyone who uses perfume could wear it. It is most definitely not just for young people. I am 47 and I think it is a really fun fragrance. It can easily transition from day to night. I also bought the lotion because i have really dry skin and I like to layer fragrances. I work very long hours sometimes and it is nice to have something that is light but will last for an entire day. I also use fragrances as home spray as well. Sometimes I will put it on light bulbs, rugs, or even on an open window screen. It is a very subtle way to make your whole home smell really nice. Another trick I have tried with this fragrance is to spray it on my hair. It is a way to kind of renew your fragrance because whenever you brush your hair or even if it moves - mine is very long - you get a subtle rush of that scent. My colleagues notice this as well and it also gets compliments. This is a light enough scent to do that. I would not recommend that with heavier fragrances. This has some floral notes as well. The list of notes includes black currant (hence the sweet), yellow jasmine (floral) and also musk. I am a big fan of that kind of combination. Another thing I really like about the Avon fragrances is the same as their whole line - they will frequently reoffer things at discounted pricing which allows you to buy your favorites in bulk and save a ton and they have samples as well so you can try something with no real outlay or commitment.

  • Avon Dramatic Firming Cream

I was getting ready to write this review and I glanced down and read the last one and I just have to say I echo those sentiments exactly. The whole reason I purchased this cream was for my neck and chest. I agree that for my skin in particular it would be too heavy for my face. But it is perfect for the neck and decollete. It feels really rich and hydrating and some of the wrinkling in my neck has diminished for sure. I wrote in my last post that I was going to review 3 Avon products but one was not a choice in the review section so this is my second. I have been using it in conjunction with a couple of other Avon products. One thing that I really like about the Avon line (which is probably the philosophy for many other brands) is that all the products can work symbiotically. I had written that I am also using Anew Genics. But this fits in just fine with that line. Another amazing fact about this product is that it is ridiculously cheap! And even better is the fact that frequently Avon will have it "on sale". They do this with all their products and rotate the items on sale at any given time so when a product that you like does go on sale you can buy a ton and save a boatload of money. This is a product that can be used year round and I use it both during the day and for the night as well. It is not greasy and makes your skin feel really soft. The smell is mild and pleasant. Get this product and you will be supremely happy with the results and the price!
