    bareMinerals Skin Rev-er Upper

A Little Extra for Your Skin

Honestly, I go back and forth on whether I think primer is necessary. When I do use primer, I really like Bare Escentuals bareVitamins Skin Rev-er Upper. It gives your skin a really nice texture, and it helps make your makeup glide on. As I said in my review of Bare Escentuals' foundation, I don't like to use powder products, but I use this primer before applying liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer, and it helps them spread evenly across my skin. It also gives a little bit of a "dewy" look to my skin. Overall, a good little extra.

  • Bare Escentuals Faux Tan Sunless Tanner

Bare Escentuals Faux Tan Sunless Tanner

    Geat, Subtle Self-Tanner

I really like this self-tanner! I am obsessed with self-tanner, too; sometimes I feel like I've tried every self-tanner there is! This looks kind of scary going on; it's very dark. You do have to blend it quickly; I recommend working in small sections at a time: face, neck/chest, upper arms, etc. It doesn't have an unbearable smell like most self-tanners; I think it kind of smells like coconut. You definitely need to wash your hands thoroughly after applying, or wear gloves. The developed color comes out very light and subtle, and it's very even. If you are looking for a super-dark tan, this may not be for you, but if you want to look healthy and glowing, Bare Escentuals Faux Tan is perfect! Also, you can increase the depth of color by applying it several days in a row. The one thing I would change about this product would be the way it fades; the fade can be a little uneven.

  • bareMinerals ORIGINAL SPF 15 Foundation

Opinion among my friends is definitely divided on Bare Escentuals. Some LOVE it and find that it gives them a flawless look. Others think it makes them look too powdery. I'm in the latter group; on my dry skin, this powder foundation (really any powder at all) ages my skin. When my face is really dry, it sometimes flakes in places and the powder highlights those spots. I also find that it settles into fine lines. However, I have seen Bare Escentuals work on other people and I think that if you don't have dry skin, it could be a great product for you.

  • Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30

One of my best friends has absolutely gorgeous skin and, after spying this moisturizer on her bathroom shelves, I thought I would give it a try. I made my way through a bottle of it and it worked well as a basic moisturizer. I like that it has such a high SPF as I have very fair skin and I definitely need an SPF in either my moisturizer or my foundation. I wouldn't say that this moisturizer does anything more than any other basic moisturizer, but it's a good basic.

    Aveda Volumizing Tonic

    Probably Best For Medium-Fine Hair

I have baby-fine hair, and I tried the Aveda Volumizing Tonic to try to get more volume throughout my hair. I found that it dries a little stiffly in my hair, not as stiffly as hairspray, but still a little crunchy. Of course, roughening up the texture of the hair makes it seem a little fluffier when you comb through it, but for volume without sacrificing smoothness, I prefer Aveda's Phomollient. I made my way through a bottle of the Volumizing Tonic, but I wouldn't buy it again.

    Aveda Tourmaline Charged Radiance Masque

A Home Spa Treat, but Don't Expect a Miracle

I used the Aveda Tourmaline Charged Radiance Masque once a week for several months. It has a nice, somewhat exfoliating texture, and it doesn't overdry the skin like some masks can. If you like to feel like you're pampering yourself and getting an at-home spa experience, this is a good product. However, it didn't seem to give me any special "glow" or refine my pores at all as I had hoped it would. My experience has been that only a professional peel can really give me that effect, not an at-home mask.

  • Aveda Control Paste

    Aveda Control Paste

    Make the Fly-Aways Behave

I love this product. My stylist suggested it for my very fine hair, which tends to stick up and float all over the place if I don't rein it in. I use Aveda Control Paste when I've finished styling my hair: I take a little, tiny bit of it and rub it between my palms to warm it up, then run it over the crown of my head where hairs tend to sitck up. Then I use the rest to push the front layers of my hair to the side where I want them. I've found that a lot of products for control are too heavy for my fine hair, and this isn't. Plus it lasts FOREVER; you only have to use a little bit to get the results you want.

  • Aveda Scalp Benefits Balancing Shampoo

    Aveda Scalp Benefits Balancing Shampoo

    Great Clarifying Shampoo

This is the only shampoo my husband has used for years; he has a huge, salon-sized bottle of it in the shower. Whenever I run out of my regular, color-protecting shampoo, or when I feel like I need a little more clarifying from my shampoo, I use this. It has a really nice scent that I think is energizing, and it makes your scalp tingle. It definitely make my hair feel like it's really CLEAN. My hair is very fine and straight, and my husband's hair is very thick and curly, and this shampoo works great for both of us.

    Aveda Phomollient Styling Foam

    A Little Bit of Lift

My stylist recommended Phomollient to help give my baby-fine hair a little more volume. It does give some subtle volume at the roots; the results are noticeable but not dramatic. Like all Aveda product, Phomollient smells nice, which is a bonus. And it's relatively inexpensive. Overall, a good product if you're looking for a little bit of lift at your roots.

  • Aveda Lip Tint SPF 15
    7.0

    Aveda Lip Tint SPF 15

Missing Currant - But Still a Good Lip Tint

I used to really like Aveda's Lip Tint in Currant, which looked kind of dark and purple-red in the container, but went on very sheer and pretty, but that color was discontinued. I have the lip tint in Berry and Peony which are both okay, but neither one is quite as good as Currant. I like this product but don't love it; I'm really picky about lip tint and this delivers a little bit too much color for me and sits a little to heavily on my lips (rather than absorbing). And it doesn't replace my all time favorite lip tint, L'Occitane Shea Butter Lip Balm in Blackberry (also discontinued). Aveda Lip Tint is a good back-up for when I want a little more color, but I usually stick with my Dr. Pepper chapstick and call it a day. :)
