    Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

    Exactly as marketed.

Not sure where this $117.47 totalbeauty price is coming from, but it is most certainly a typo. You can get 16 ounces for just $10 at your local Walgreen's, making it an explosion for your buck at just 60 cents an ounce. It is remarkably effective for such a gentle cleanser. I have sensitive combination skin, with an oily T-zone and dry cheeks. Before I found Cetaphil, it was tricky because products that would work for my T-zone were way too harsh on my cheeks (ahem, Basis Cleaner Clean Face Wash), so I would have to go without treating my cheeks. Cetaphil's Gentle Skin Cleanser, however, works all over my face. It doesn't pull you skin taut, but leaves your skin feeling soft, clean, and supple. A killer combination, in my opinion. I almost use this cleanser as a moisturizer, because it truly works to nourish your skin without adding oil or grease. My acne blemishes have significantly diminished in redness since I started using this product three weeks ago, and my skin feels so much softer and healthier in general. It gently but firmly nudges away acne over time, so be patient. Works best on dry skin without rinsing, and it absorbs completely in less than a minute. There is literally no residue - just very soft, clean skin. A near-holy-grail item that will definitely be coming with me to college.

  • Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub
    8.0

    Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub

    Whitehead annihilator.

I started using this product back in May, and my first bottle is still going strong! I religiously use this product every night, so this is a true testament to its value. I have sensitive combination skin, with an oily T-zone and dry cheeks. I concentrate most of the product on my T-zone, where it, as my title may suggest, completely (gently) annihilates and eliminates any whiteheads and pimples. It has a very refreshing and cooling sensation, and it rinses off cleanly, leaving renewed skin behind. It contains 2% salicylic acid, making it great for acne-prone skin like mine. Raving aside, I have yet to find a product that will fight (and win) against the stubborn blackheads on my nose. Biore's Pore Unclogging Scrub does, however, minimize the pores on my nose and works to make my blackheads very minimal and less noticeable. Definitely a keeper.

  • Crest Cavity Protection Toothpaste - Regular

There are two things I need to point out about this product. Since I started using this toothpaste (or other similar variations) two years ago, I, first and foremost, have not had any cavities, something that is a huge relief to me as someone who despises going to the dentist. The less fuss they are, the better. Secondly, I got braces last year. So for the 14 months that I had braces, I just kept brushing twice a day with this toothpaste. When I got my braces off three weeks ago, suddenly everyone noticed my teeth, not just because they were straighter, but because they were also startlingly whiter. This was a huge surprise to me, and a very good one at that. I don't get my teeth whitened (who would with braces anyway?), so I attribute the whitening all to this toothpaste, since there couldn't have been anything else that could have done the job. Straighter and whiter teeth in one blow? Thank you, Crest.

  • Aveeno Positively Smooth Shave Gel

I used this shaving gel with a fresh blade, and the first time instantly left me with case of razor burn that took days to completely heal. After reading some of the other reviews, I think the added fragrance may be to blame. But for those with less sensitive skin, this shave gel could work, since it did lather up well and provide ample protection from nicks.

  • Gillette Satin Care Shave Gel
    7.0

    Gillette Satin Care Shave Gel

Only the sensitive one works for me.

Only the sensitive skin shave gel in the Satin Care line works for me. All the others left me with razor burn, so I'll focus on the sensitive one here. It does not provide great protection, so be wary of using this shaving cream with a 2-week-or-older razor blade, because then it will leave you with nicks and cuts. Otherwise, a gentle touch and a fresh blade will do the job nicely, leaving you stubble free for at least a day. This product lathers up well, and a little does go a long way. It comes in an aerosol spray can, so be careful not to apply brute force to the pump, otherwise you have an entire can of shaving cream that has to go wasted.

  • Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion
    7.0

    Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion

    Good product, nothing amazing.

You can't go wrong with Aveeno products, as a lot of them are oat-based, making them very soothing and very gentle. That said, as someone who doesn't like moisturizers much in the first place, I'm looking for a moisturizer that instantly sinks in, with no oily residue. This product sort of meets the ticket. I can use this product on my dry cheeks (though I rarely do), but I stay away from using it all over my face. This moisturizer excels as an after-shave moisturizer on my knees and legs. It takes about 10 minutes to sink in, leaving behind silky smooth skin. I would like a moisturizer with greater and faster absorbing abilities, but as a product that is at least not sticky and good for sensitive skin, this'll stay in my bathroom for now. This product also has little to no scent, a plus for those who don't like fragrances.

  • TRESemme Climate Control Shampoo
    10.0

    TRESemme Climate Control Shampoo

    Affordable shampoo, great hair.

As someone living in the Midwest with the location's characteristic bipolar weather, my hair suffers from the extreme humidity and sudden frigidity. I have long, thick, straight hair that, though already naturally shiny, tends to be greasy, limp, and frizzy. Great, huh? Well, this shampoo fixes it all. While there is a lot of advice out there to not shampoo your hair daily - for which I can reluctantly agree with most of the time - this shampoo can be used nightly without leaving you with long-term consequences. This is a definite plus for someone like me, who likes the feeling of clean hair each morning. Though everyone's hair is different, this shampoo always leaves my hair feeling light, airy, and tangle-free. Even conditioner is optional with this shampoo. This one's a keeper.

  • Basis Cleaner Clean Face Wash
    7.0

    Basis Cleaner Clean Face Wash

    Terrible packaging, decent product.

As someone breaking into the skincare world, I wanted to go with a gentle cleanser that gave me a bang for a buck. I have combination skin: an oily T-zone and dry cheeks. To top it all off, my skin is also sensitive and acne-prone. I really liked the cool (but not cooling) sensation of the gel sliding onto my face, and this cleanser is the type to leave you with that taut, squeaky-clean feeling. This product works much better in the shower than simply slapping your face with water beforehand. If you don't use this in the shower, it leaves a residue on your face that simply doesn't feel clean. Rather, you feel like you have soap stuck to your face, which isn't very pleasant. This made it a little inconvenient for those late nights as a high school junior, but it was very easy on the wallet. I used a dime-sized amount nightly, and it lasted me six months. $5 for 6 months is a pretty darn good deal. Results didn't stack up nearly as well as I would have hoped. While the cleanser worked brilliantly in the first month, I quickly plateau-ed, and the cleanser stopped doing anything for my skin, and the fact that the bottle just never seemed to run out became a nuisance instead of a benefit. This cleanser would work better in conjunction with another - that is to say, switch out the cleanser every 2 months. That also said, the lid of the bottle I purchased was very flimsy, and the fact that it worked better in the shower made for slippery hands. The first time I dropped the tube, the lid broke in half. The second time, the remaining part of the lid broke in half again, and product just kept oozing out (and still lasted 6 months! I guess that's a true testament to its shelf life). By the time I used up the bottle, the lid was all but shattered. A disappointing package for an otherwise okay product.
