    Chapstick True Shimmer

    Like the Scents!

Now to my latest beauty test - the new Chapstick True Shimmer ($2.79). You're probably thinking Chapstick? What a glorious topic to read about today, Jules. Well, it is! If you're a fan of the tried and true lip balm (so handy in both the summer and wintertime for dry, cracked lips - I always keep a tube nearby), you'll adore the new shimmer. And it comes in four "flavors." Tropical (I've been using this one religiously - smells just like a Pina Colada!) Bontanical Berry Peppermint Rush Blended Fruit Sherbet It makes applying lip balm so much more fun, ya know? It moisturizes, softens and gives lips that nice little, sexy sheen. You can pick these up at any of your local convenience stores across the country. Smack!

  • L'Oreal Paris HiP Studio Secrets Professional Color Presso

Yep, I just told you how L'Oreal HiP eyeliner and I don't get along (we had many morning fights, ugh!), but I'm actually digging the HiP Color Presso Lip Glosses ($12.99). There are 20 shades, but I've been using and loving Swanky (pictured here). I'm a lip gloss junkie. I literally have 10 or so in the side pocket of my purse and use ALL of them. (If anyone opened my purse, I would look like an addict!) At first glance (and use), this tube is a little awkward, but it's really handy in that it combines two shades that you can either use alone or together. And I love the high-gloss color and shine -it's everything I hope a lip gloss might be (and I set high standards!). But of course I don't think it will eliminate the number of glosses in my stash (I just can't get enough!). Sigh...

  • L'Oreal Paris HiP Studio Secrets Professional Kohl Eyeliner

I've been using the L'Oreal Paris HiP (High Intensity Pigments) Kohl Eyeliner ($11.99) for the past month and do not recommend it. Don't get me wrong, L'Oreal has some great stuff, but this is not one of them. So why don't we get along? Well, most of all, every morning was a constant battle. Once I finished trying not to poke my eye out with the pointy applicator (ouch!), I discovered I had powdery stuff all over the the tops of my cheeks - so not cool! I would then have to go back over with my mineral make-up to get rid of it. Such a hassle! I used the navy and actually loved the color (and the liner really didn't look bad once I was able to apply!), but the ease of use was just too much for me. So, lately I've been using my eyeliner brush again dipped into a pot of my favorite color. (I won't name names just yet but I'm telling you, you're going to love this one!)

  • Max Factor 2000 Calorie Straight Brush Mascara

Happy Easter! (Hope your weather is better than ours here - rain does not work with silk dresses, argh!!) All weekend long, I've been using a couple of brand-new Max Factor products. Affordable and still with the quality of the over-priced stuff you find at your department store. (You can look beautiful people and not spend a fortune!) Running around in the rain, I've found the true test of my new make-up - no streaking, ha! I've been wearing Max Factor's 2000 Calorie Mascara ($10) (but without the guilt!). So, mascara's one of those things, you either love or hate. Let's face it, I don't even check mail without it. And when my work took new name badge pictures and forgot to wear mascara - I had to run home! There are a couple of tried and true at Sephora I always make a nosedive for, and then there are those at the local supermarket that work like a charm, too. Folks, I think this is one of them. Max Factor is after all "the make-up of make-up artists." With this particular mascara, we're talking high impact; if you don't want major lashes or don't like to wear much mascara, this isn't for you. But, if you're like me and find your lashes disappear with certain brands and you just want to that extra "oomph" to actually show people you have lashes, this is the one. It's bold, black and thickens lashes like nothing I've ever used. And yet, my lashes still haven't gotten clumpy (which is the worst side effect of a mascara!).

  • Max Factor Vivid Impact Lip Color

Happy Easter! (Hope your weather is better than ours here - rain does not work with silk dresses, argh!!) All weekend long, I've been using a couple of brand-new Max Factor products. Affordable and still with the quality of the over-priced stuff you find at your department store. (You can look beautiful people and not spend a fortune!) Running around in the rain, I've found the true test of my new make-up - no smudging, ha! I've been the Vivid Impact Lip Color in #8, Sweet Tart ($8). The lip color? Well you can't resist a shade like Sweet Tart for one, but the color really is exceptionally beautiful (it made the rest of my face instantly pop!). The shade is a vibrant color that goes well with my strawberry blonde hair and seemed to stay on for hours. Another fav part of mine is the way it feels when applied. It's very silky and smooth as if it's moisturizing your lips as you apply one swipe at a time. Just watch your balance - a steady hand is needed with such a standout. You don't want to draw a clown face (so not chic with that silk Easter dress!).

  • L'Oreal Paris Double Extend Mascara

Mascara is one of those products that's hard to find your perfect match. You know all the qualities you want in one, you just can't ever find one you're truly in love with. Many of them boast the qualities you look for, only once you actually try them, you find they fail. Am I right? Over the past few weeks, I've been testing out the new L'Oreal Paris Double Extend Mascara ($10.99). And you know what? Not bad! This one uses "beauty tubes technology" to lengthen lashes and I did find this happening. The first step is to use the white end of the tube (and it actually applies as white!) to sort of nourish, condition and act as the "base coat." Next, you use the red end, which holds the actual mascara (so you're really not getting as much product as you normally would, which is a con). The mascara itself is not so bad, but I can't say it lengthened as much as I expected. I've used L'Oreal's Voluminous mascara in the past and found just as great of results. The two-in-one is a little awkward as well - I'm right-handed, so I found myself switching hands a lot! I don't think this mascara's bad if length is what you want, I just think it could have more qualities than just that. Why can't a mascara be everything to me? Does it only have to lengthen or thicken or curl? I'm still searching for a jack-of-all-trades mascara!

  • Olay Pro-X Age Repair Lotion with SPF 30

Just out this month, Olay has launched a new Professional anti-aging line. Olay Professional Pro-X, and my mother-in-law A. has been using it for the last month or so (she was lucky enough to get a sneak peek from her beauty-blogging daughter-in-law - brownie points!). She told me upfront that she was already a huge fan of Olay products and that she used the moisturizer daily. So, of course, being in her 50s, she was happy to try this new product line-up. Since the Oil of Olay times (remember that? my grandmother always kept a jar of it!),Olay has lately been cranking out some rather amazing (and affordable!) products. This set contains: Wrinkle Smoothing Cream, Hydra Firming Cream, Discoloration Fighting Concentrate, Deep Wrinkle Treatment and Age Repair Lotion. So, A. just completed her first month of this "treatment" and she so impressed. She told me it made her face feel so "fresh" in the mornings (sort of like you've just had whisked out of your apartment into the cold air first thing in the morning before ducking into the subway - you know that feeling? Or after you've just stepped out of the steamy shower before tucking into bed at night?). There are unique anti-aging ingredients in each of these products that make them extra-special (and make them worthy of skipping the doc's office and staying right at home!). They've even been professionally tested (by renowned dermatologists with lots of clinical testing!), so you know you're not wasting your money. And with the collection, you can use it as a normal routine - day and night. (I like my routines, personally!) They're actually designed to work together, so the more you use in sync, the better. From reducing fine lines and wrinkles to even shielding skin from harmful rays, this line-up scores a definite A in the beauty department.

  • L'Oreal Paris EverPure Moisture Shampoo

    L'Oreal Paris EverPure Moisture Shampoo

Great Product, Maybe Not For Me

I've recently been using L'Oreal's EverPure Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner to sort of revive my hair (I'm a big believer that one should switch shampoos/hair routines every now and then to sort of "let your hair breathe." Mix it up a little!). Of course, as a beauty blogger, I'm always trying new things, but this one stood out because it's 100% vegan. Yes, vegan! (which means it's good for your hair (sulfate-free!) - and not tested on animals) There's nothing harsh here! And it's really for color-treated hair, but I consider myself part of the crowd now since I regularly highlight my red hair with blonde highlights (sheepish grin). The Rosemary Juniper scent is amazing - so fresh and clean. That's what I want my hair products to smell like, ya know? I don't want candy apple or orange sherbet, I want something that actually smells clean and refreshing. This duo definitely cleaned and nourished (my hair's oily and this seemed to work just fine, even though it's for dry tresses), but to be honest (and I want to be honest with you!), I don't think I can make it a permanent mix to my beauty routine because it just doesn't bring out my highlights like I prefer. Ok, I said it. It made my hair a darker version of itself, and I've really taken a hold on my hair's lighter, blonder hues - no offense, L'Oreal! A hair duo that delivers very well, but just not what I'm looking for in the long run.

  • Crabtree & Evelyn Aromatherapy Distillations Revitalizing -Conditioning Body Lotion

There's something about Christmastime that brings out my love for the smell (and taste!) of peppermint. I love peppermint tea, peppermint lattes, peppermint milkshakes (hello, yum!!) and now peppermint lotion. Peppermint oil is so refreshing and has such a clean scent. It's relaxing and is meant to make you feel more focused (slap some on first thing in the morning before work!). I've been using the new Aromatherapy Distillations by Crabtree & Evelyn body lotion before bedtime. Ahhhh....While the scent is a little strong (it's a blend of eucalyptus, lime, peppermint, grapefruit, mandarin and rosemary), it's so soothing (with cucumber and lemongrass extracts) and actually helped me zonk out after a long day pretty quickly. It made my skin feel nice and smooth and, most of all, refreshed. It feels cool at first (it is made of 100% pure essential oils, after all) and then works into the skin to produce a nice soothing feeling. It almost feels like you've just stepped out of the shower. Use after you actually do get out of the shower and let the refreshing extracts go to work!

  • L'Oreal Paris Vive Pro Color Vive Conditioning Hair Treatment

I always want to be "that" girl - you know, the one who has the silkiest, shiniest hair? Don't get me wrong, I have been blessed with hair that's both healthy and has a subtle red hue. But, I don't feel like my hair is that shiny, ya know? And even though it's not damaged, I would says it's just "there" and there's not much in the shine department (can I take some of the extra oil and transfer it to shine, please). This is where the new L'Oreal Vive Pro line comes to the rescue! It's meant for long hair that's damaged, but works for those who want shine, shine, shine. We're all guilty of getting a little blow dryer happy, so this haircare (infused with a new pearl protein complex) alleviates that stress. Within weeks, you'll notice your tresses become stronger, tougher and (gasp!) shinier. Of course, the more you use it, the better results. So use it like this: shampoo and condition daily, and use the conditioning treatment weekly. Bye bye damage, hello shine!
