    Gillette Venus Embrace Razor

    My New Fav Razor

I know, it's silly to be writing about a razor. But I can't help it! I'm so ridiculously happy with my new razor, I need to tell the world (or however, many of you are reading this)! It's the new Venus Embrace, and isn't it pretty in all its purple and turquoise grandeur? The five blades actually hug your skin and sit flat so it doesn't even feel like blades are sweeping across you (I know that's always an uncomfortable feeling for me!). It makes a closer shave, too. The protective ribbon of moisture ensures your skin is smooth when you're finished. Maybe the perfect tool for those Fashion Week frocks, no? P.S. One my fav features is the ShowerPod system, which means you can hang your razor in the shower with the suction cups attached, and there's even room to store two extra blades! Sooo freaking cool! Get yours for just $9.99-$11.99.

  • Frederic Fekkai Summer Hair Beach Waves

After purchasing this product, I tried it once and had to return it. My stick-sraight fine long hair turned into a frizzy, pouffy nightmare that I don't want to relive.

  • Yves Saint Laurent Beauty Parisienne Eau de Parfum Spray

Don't just love Paris in the springtime, love it in the fall, too! Fronted by Kate Moss, YSL's brand-new fragrance, Parisienne, is so sexy and sensual, you'll want to drop the clutch and carry your oversize along so you can keep it on hand. Blackberry, damask rose and sandalwood make it mysterious and your new favorite scent this season. Try it and you'll be hooked. YSL rehab, anyone?

  • L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Deep-Set Wrinkle Repair 24HR Eye Duo

As for the Revitalift Deep-Set Wrinkle Repair Eye Cream ($19.99), it's a duo of Pro-Retinol A and a fiber restoring complex of Pro-Lastyl and Vitoptine. What, you say?? In other words, these are anti-aging ingredients that also firm and tone. Easy as that. There's one for AM and one for PM, and they're not bad for those pesky wrinkles around the eye (or you could stop party-hopping til midnight, ahem?). How to use? Just apply gently to the eye area every morning and night after washing your face, and perhaps follow-up with the Revitalift day/night cream if you have the extra cash and time.

  • L'Oreal Paris Extra-Volume Hydra Collagen Plumping Mascara

Up for review today are a couple of L'Oreal products my mom has been trying out. Let me just jump right in and say she fell in love with L'Oreal's Extra Volume Collagen Mascara ($7.95). Mom wasn't necessarily blessed with those extra-fluffy movie-star eyelashes (needless to say, she didn't pass them down to me, either!), so she's always looking for as much help as she can get to "lift" her eyes open. And for a drugstore find, this one's excellent. The brush is actually 50-percent bigger than the classic voluminizing mascara from L'Oreal, so you can imagine the high impact. High drama, baby. The collagen clings to lashes as they expand for 12 times more impact. Mascara is one of the most important beauty tools out there, in my opinion, and this one truly works. If you're pressed for time, just apply some of this magic stuff and you instantly look fresh.

  • Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Shampoo

This entire summer, I've been all about "letting my hair go free!" My tresses are, and have always been, inclined to be stick straight. But, over the last few years, since I've become more willing to experiment, I've found that my hair does have natural wave to it. Not the perfect waves of, say, Vanessa Hudgens, but wavy enough to not wreak havoc on them every, single morning with a blowdryer. (It's just too darn hot down south to put myself through that every day!) I used to wonder how to achieve the perfect waves for my hair. And you know what I do? I wash it, condition it, blowdry my fringe bangs and then lightly around my face and the ends (I hate sitting around and I feel a drip, drip!). Then, for the rest of the day, I let it do its thing. And you know what? Just letting my hair do its thing works perfectly! Of course, it doesn't hurt to scrunch with your hands every now and then to perfect even more. With all this said, I thought I would try the new Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly line - that includes a great-smelling shampoo and conditioner (just $2.99 each) (plus other essentials like hairspray, mousse, spray gel and touch cream). The line claims to "tousle" your tresses freely if you just wash, condition, apply the mousse or gel, blowdry, flat iron (like you would use a curling iron) and gently brush out your new curls with your fingers. Last, blast with hairspray and use the cream. Whew! I don't know about you, but this is way too much of a routine for my hair just to look a la natural. And I wasn't even impressed with how it worked. I typically use a "regular" shampoo and sometimes even a mismatched conditioner, and my hair turns out just as tousled. Definitely an affordable price, but if they're wanting you to buy all six of the products at once, you might as well buy from your salon! Don't hate me, but give me my much simpler routine any day.

  • Caress Evenly Gorgeous Beauty Bar

    Caress Evenly Gorgeous Beauty Bar

Great, Just Not Fan of the Bar

One of my favorite indulgences is a good body wash. I love to fill the entire bathroom with a wonderful aroma and then put on my make-up and dry my hair in it after my shower. While a nice expensive version is exactly that (hello, Philosophy - love you!), there are some drugstore versions stepping up to the plate. The new Evenly Gorgeous line from Caress comes in both a body wash ($4.49 for 18 oz.) and beauty bar ($2.99 for 2-bar package). I'm a body wash fan all the way. In fact, I don't know how I ever survived using bars all those years. They're just too darn inconvenient and messy (although they do tend to last much longer because I get way too carried away squirting the wash around!). My dad asked me if I had glitter on me the other day, and I thought hmmm...Once I thought about it, it was the Caress body wash glistening in the hot sun on my chest (if I'm not mistaken, it looks like there are tiny gold flecks in it?). It's formulated to even skin tone and gently moisturize with a nice aroma of burnt brown sugar and karite butter - yum! It does smell delightful and it's even a scent I think would work nice into the fall and the holidays (although I'm still using my eggnog shampoo right now, anyway!). The best is you aren't breaking the bank, but keeping that luscious aroma around. No boring shower for this beauty junkie. Bye, bye vanilla - hello burnt brown sugar!

    Q-tips Cotton Swabs

    Q-Tips with Pizazz

I don't know about you, but I think Q-tips are the essential beauty tool. If you don't have them in your bathroom already - what's wrong with you?! (jk!) They truly are great for blending and touching up make-up in the mornings and perfect for when you make that stupid eyeliner mistake (you've been there, right?)! I also like to use them to create the a smoky eye look or even to apply lip gloss! So all you Q-tips lovers alike will rejoice to see there's new packaging that makes it so much easier to sit on your countertop - Q-tips Vanity Packs. Choose from blue, orange, yellow or purple for just $3.19 a box (285 per box). (I've already been stocking up for my mini chicster!) Here's what celebrity make-up artist Mally Roncal had to say about how to use them: "Give your neutral eye shadows a vacation! Think outside the box and try a bold plum or teal eyeliner to line your upper lashes. Use a Q-tips cotton swab to blend the lines for a soft, modern look."
