    Matrix Essentials So Silver

    Got rid of the brass!!

I used this on my medium length light brown hair, colored with Natural Instincts. On a whim I added paint on highlights with an at-home product. Looked OK but were too copper/brassy for my skin tone. I went to the beauty supply store, showed one of the employees my hair issue and she walked right over and grabbed this shampoo for me. IT WORKS!!! Even after the first shampoo my copper/brassy highlights were toned down to more of a natural blonde-ish color. YEAH!!!! She said I should use this only about every 4 days. It makes hair SUPER clean - and also really dry - so have a good conditioner on hand. I was a little freaked when the directions included wearing colorist gloves. Just to be safe, I did, but maybe that wasn't necessary? This stuff is intense - in color (purple) and cleansing. And IT WORKS!!!!! A little pricey, though. I paid $16. But it's a big bottle and will last a long time.

    Garnier Color Breaks

Not what I expected but OK

[NOTE: Review updated at end] I used this on my medium length, layered, light brown hair, colored with Natural Instincts. I wanted some highlites to break up the color & for summer. Since this product is specifically for color-treated hair, I bought it. This is the first time I have highlited my hair at home. I am having mixed thoughts about this products. 1) it would have been nice if they stated NOT to use this on semi-permanent color in a more visible way instead of part of the tiny small print on the instruction sheet. I had semi-permanent color on my hair already, so really, this is not for my hair. But the box says it's for color treated hair! 2) my highlites DO NOT look like the color on the box. They are more reddish-orange. Not what I wanted however everyone says they look really good!! Several people mentioned my hair right away and were surprised I did it at home and said it looked "really, really good!". It blends well with my light brown hair. I worry it's orange but I'm told it's more auburn. 3) the plastic comb was hard to use. The product clumped and did not go on smoothly. The comb caught on my hair and was hard to control the amount of hair I was coloring. I was unable to get thin strands but ended up with more "chunking". It was hard to pick up the product, from the bowl, with the comb. 4) I would probably not use this again. I wish I would have APPLIED IT HEAVIER, and also left it on longer, which I think would make it more blonde. I think the key to getting blonde is put on a heavier layer. Where I applied the product very heavy, I got blonde. Where it went on too thin I got reddish color. UPDATE: I've had the highlights on 3 days now and I have to say, they have lightened up quite a bit and the reddish has faded out. Maybe because I've been outside in the sun? So they have lightened up quite a bit, but still be cautioned that this product probably isn't strong enough to give you blonde highlights, especially on dark blonde/light brown hair. More like copper or reddish.

  • Garnier Fructis Style Volume Inject Mousse - Ultra Strong

I bought this mousse because it was on mega sale and figured I'd give it a try. Hey - it's really good stuff! Very lightweight but gives definite hold, volume at the roots, and overall body. One neat thing is the can's design - the mousse comes out in an ultra airy foam, and not a glob the consistency of shaving cream, like some other mousses do. I have very fine straight hair and have trouble finding a mousse that works well without being sticky or "gumming" up my hair. Usually that means big bucks for salon stuff, however this mousse works very well at a good price. I'd buy it again, even if it isn't on sale.

  • L'Oréal Paris Excellence Creme

    L'Oréal Paris Excellence Creme

    Easy to use, Quality

This at-home creme hair color is very gentle and super easy to use, even for first time home-hair colorers. The kit included application bottle, color mixing agent, pre-treatment conditioner, after coloring conditioner, and gloves. The instructions are super easy to follow. There is a mild smell to the product when it's being applied, but nothing I would describe as harsh. There's many, many colors in so many shades that finding your match, or new color, is easy!! **LOOK at the side of the box, for final color result pictures - don't just go by the pic on the front.** What's great about applying this color is that it DOESN'T DRIP!! The application bottle comes with a comb attachment; I have medium length hair and always use the regular bottle top instead. The color is even and fabulous, and lasts a good four weeks if not longer! The after-coloring conditioner is awesome, and there's enough to last until you color again. Because it's no-drip, it's super easy to apply yourself. Definitely use a timer, *especially* if a friend is coloring your hair. Otherwise you might get to talkin' and forget how long the product has been on! One box is enough for shoulder length hair; go ahead and get two boxes if your hair is longer. Long hair definitely will need two boxes. This is a gentle color; if you have dark hair and want to go very blonde, be careful about choosing a blonde color. As with most other brands, It doesn't have the oomph to lift color enough to turn darker hair blonde, and you might end up with reddish-orange instead. Find a stronger product made to turn any color blonde, instead.

  • Sally Hansen Hair Remover Wax Strip Kit for Face

Every time I give this product another chance, I could kick myself for wasting the money. Never again!! I used to think it was something I was doing wrong; I realize now it's just a bad product. Reasons: 1) the "precut" rectangle strips come in different sizes, all of which are useless. 2) you have to cut the strips, which is gums up scissors, and is a mess. 3) a person could rub these between the palms of their hands (as directed) for half an hour and still not heat up the wax to a useable point. 4) IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL. Because of the odd shaped strips, even with trimming you get a piece of plastic that's is impossible to place correctly. 5) *The Wax Does Not Remove Hair*. Despite the pain of ripping off the plastic sheet, there is minimal hair removal, at best. Avoid this product.

  • Nair Sensitive Face Cream

    Nair Sensitive Face Cream

    A gentle product; applicator tube

I have light, fairly fine facial hair (upper lip, etc) and used the Nair Face Cream, Sensitive Formula with Green Tea. In terms of facial hair creams, I've found this one to be by far the most gentle. The product comes in a small, easy to hold tube that has an wide, flat and angled applicator tip. I found this cream to be very, very gentle with a very faint fresh scent. The product goes on easily and doesn't drip. It does need to be applied in a thick layer. It would be nice if the applicator tip was a little smaller, for more precise application. After the 5 min. minimum time, the product worked great and I have complete hair removal. Yeah! I'm very fair skinned and found that unlike other facial hair creams, this product doesn't cause any irritation or burning, however others might have experienced burning so as with all hair removers, it's something to be aware of. I gave this cream an 8 because the applicator tip is a bit wide, especially for the upper lip area. Overall, a good product for gentle hair removal.

  • Mary Kay TimeWise Night Solution

    Mary Kay TimeWise Night Solution

Lives up to the hype; excellent product!

I first tried this as a sample; noticed a definite difference in my skin, so I bought the full sized bottle. I apply this every night, after washing my face and before a moisturizer. It's very light coverage, it almost disappears into my face, which is nice because it doesn't feel "heavy" or oily in any way. It makes my skin smoother, healthier looking, fresh, and "firmer"; when I don't use it for a couple days or more, I can definitely notice a dull look in my skin. It's a little pricey but one bottle lasts a long time, so it's a good value for the price. There's a pump to dispense the product, which is nice, because you only need a drop or two. The glass bottle is classy. Anyone who has slight aging, uneven or "dull" skin will benefit from this product. Also anyone with good skin who wants a light coverage nighttime product to keep skin healthy looking, toned, and fresh.

  • Avon MagiX Face Perfector SPF 20

This stuff really is magic. It's an ultra light creme product that virtually disappears into a flawless, light, blended base. After applying my skin feels smooth, matte, and pores are less visible. After a light application of Magix, any type of foundation I apply (mostly mineral powder) goes on perfectly. Great all day oil and shine control. I won't skip this step before applying foundation.

    Super and worth it

I love this compact! It's always in my purse and it's so CLASSY!! All I have in mine is the mineral powder and my lipstick, and the powder brush - it's GREAT. I also like how it fits either a lipstick or a lip gloss.

  • Clinique Pore Minimizer Instant Perfector

This stuff makes pores absolutely disappear!! If I am in a hurry and don't have time for make up I will still put THIS stuff on! I use it on my nose, which has terrible pores from a bad sunburn years ago. My pores totally disappear and my foundation glides on over this. It also blots up oil and leaves a nice matt finish. I use a little on my forehead and chin as well. The tube is tiny but it last a long, long time. I always have two: one for my make up bag and one to keep in my purse.
