  • Jane Iredale GLOW TIME FULL COVERAGE MINERAL BB CREAM

I received a couple samples of this and was pleasantly surprised that the shade (B5) worked for my pale skin. This range has a variety of shades which is one of things that makes this stand out from normal BB creams. The differences don't stop there. This "BB Cream" works much more like a traditional foundation than other BB's I've tried. It boasts that it is a full coverage BB cream and I would agree with that. This is a much thicker consistency than a typical BB cream or tinted moisturizer. Still, it was easy to apply and provided medium to full coverage. If I built it up more it could have been full coverage. The finish was satin-like and did provide a faint glow. This helped camouflage my pores and made my skin look so even. I was impressed with the staying power of this as well. Even without a primer, this lasted all day on my combination skin. I have tried a couple other Jane Iredale products and have not been blown away by any. However, this product is unique and works very well for me. I love that this has antioxidants in it that can help with the appearance of pores and uneven skin tone. At $48 this is a very expensive BB cream (The Dr. Jart+ Premium BB Cream comes with almost the same amount of product and costs $39) but considering the performance of this and the high quality ingredients it contains, I think Jane Iredale can justify the higher price tag. This is definitely one worth checking out and I may even have to buy the full size once I am in the market for a new face product.

  • Illamasqua Powder Blusher
    10.0

    Illamasqua Powder Blusher

    Highly pigmented, beautiful blushes

I have three Illamasqua powder blushes and love them all. Lover is a wonderful matte peach color that I see has a rave review here as well. The other I have is Katie. This is a soft, natural, but bright pink matte blush. Both are beautifully pigmented and blend really nicely into the skin. I also have the color Disobey, which is a matte light brown that I use for contouring. The color is light enough for my pale skin, but it's also nicely pigmented so it shows up well. They all have great staying power for powder blushes. I absolutely love the color selection of Illamasqua's blushes. Colors vary from more neutral to very bold. At $24 each, they are expensive but the amount of product you receive is quite generous compared to say, Laura Mercier, and with how pigmented these are, you really don't need much. Worth the price if you ask me!

  • Becca Beach Tint
    10.0

    Becca Beach Tint

    Lovely and Multi Purpose

I picked this up in the color Lychee, which is a bright pink. The tub packaging is great because you can squeeze out precisely the amount of product that you want, and trust me a little of this goes a long way! This product blends beautifully on the skin. Even though Lychee is a bright pink, when I blend it out, the affect is quite subtle. It can also be built up for a brighter cheek look. Beach tints can also be used on the lips and this works great for that as well. I just dab a bit on and it works like a light stain on the lips. It goes in fairly wet but dried down to a matte finish. Because these are cream blushes in a tube, the consistency is different to your typical cream blush/lip product. It goes on more oily for lack of a better word. However, these will not make your skin look greasy at all. This just makes it super easy to spread and blend, but just like it does on the lips, the product dried down to a soft, non greasy finish that looks natural and pretty. I'd love to pick these up in more colors because they are so easy to work with, have great color pay off and last so well on both the cheeks and the lips.

  • MAC 239 Eye Shader Brush
    10.0

    MAC 239 Eye Shader Brush

For perfect shadow placement, use this

There is not an eye shadow that this brush does not like. The soft, densely packed hairs pick up any kind of eye shadow beautifully and really allow you to pack on color for a vibrant look. This is also nice for lightly sweeping color over the lids. It is easy to control how much shadow you load on this brush. I have had my 239 for several years and it has held up beautifully. It is one of the easiest brushes to clean and each time I do, it looks like new all over again. I love that the hairs are white so you can easily see the shadow on the brush. So many eye shadow brushes flop around too much, but this one has the perfect amount of give for working on the base of the lid. The tip is small enough that you can use this to place highlighter on the inner corners of your eyes or run a darker color along your lash line for a smokey look. You can also use this for placing highlighter on the brow bone. If you don't have this brush in your beauty arsenal, you are really missing out!

  • Pangea Organics Facial Scrub
    2.0

    Pangea Organics Facial Scrub

    Rough and Expensive

I got a deluxe sample of this in one of my monthly subscription boxes. I like that Pangea offers organic, paraben-free products, but from what I have tried, they seem pretty mediocre, yet they are priced rather high. This scrub is a perfect example. This is a very basic physically exfoliating scrub. For me, this was entirely too rough and harsh for my face. I felt like the physical exfoliators were actually tearing my skin. This is fairly thick and hard to move around your face too. I gave up trying to use this on my face and will use the remainder of my sample to exfoliate my feet during at home pedicures. What is amazing to me is that a small bottle of this rough scrub costs over $30! For that money, you can find much more effective, yet gentle options from other brands that also contain quality, plant ingredients. Skip this scrub.

  • Schick Hydro Silk
    8.0

    Schick Hydro Silk

    Provides a very close shave

I got this razor as a freebie somehow but was reluctant to use it because I love the design of my Schick Quattro Razor so much and this is a very different to that. Because this razor has five blades and moisture strips all around that, it is quite bulky. The handle however, is lightweight and easy to grip. This took some getting used to, and I still think it could be better at getting around my ankles and knees, but I do really like the shave it gives. Because this has five blades, it provides a really close shave. The moisture strips around the blades get a little gooey when wet, but they do help keep my dry, itchy legs slightly more moisturized. After a couple weeks using this razor (I change my razors out about once a month), the moisturizing strips aren't doing much anymore, but that is OK. When I first used this I thought it was decent but that I would return to my Schick Quattro in a month. After using this a few times though, I realize that my legs stay smoother for longer and I think it is due to this razor's incredibly close shave. I may actually abandon my favorite razor for this, despite its rather bulky design.

  • Illamasqua Cream Blusher
    9.0

    Illamasqua Cream Blusher

    Pigmented and Pretty

I have the Illamasqua Cream Blusher in "Promise" which is a nice, versatile, creamy pink color. This is really easy to apply with a synthetic brush or your fingertips. The consistency is creamy and smooth so it blends into my skin really nicely. This leaves a slightly dewy finish, but is not greasy or shiny at all. It is easy to build up the color of this to reach the amount of pink you want, from just slightly flushed, to babydoll cheeks. Compared to my MAC cream blush, this has a more creamy consistency and is much more pigmented. The MAC cream blush is harder and doesn't glide onto the skin like Illasmasqua's. My blush is going to last me quite a while because the product is so pigmented and a little goes such a long way that I don't have to use much at all. This is one of my favorite cream blushes and I would love to get more colors from the range.

  • MAC 130 Short Duo Fibre Brush

This is the first duo fibre brush from MAC that I have used/purchased and I am in love with it. I wanted this small/short version because I figured it would give me the control I want. When I picked this up (it was the last one at my store!) the MAC lady told me it was her absolute favorite for foundation. I bought this to use for cream blush and highlighter and for that It works wonderfully. Since hearing the MAC girl rave about its foundation application, I had to try it with my foundations too. It didn't disappoint! This gently buffs foundation into the skin beautifully. I was surprised by how quick I can apply my foundation using such a small brush head, but it works so well. Still, I love this for cream blush and cream highlighters because it picks up plenty of product and blends it so nicely on my skin, exactly where I want it. I didn't expect this to be as soft as it is. Prior to this, I was using the Real Techniques Stippling Brush, but MAC's 130 blows Real Techniques out of the water. MAC's version has more densely packed bristles that work much better at picking up product. Granted, the MAC version is four times the price, but I think that if you are into makeup and want the best application, good brushes are vital. Because this can used with liquid, cream and powder products, it is an amazingly versatile brush to add to your arsenal. I love this so much that I am tempted to get a second one!

  • Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15
    3.0

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15

    Basic Lip Balm, Fancy Price

I have tried the Fresh Sugar Lip Balm in the plain, no-color, and the sheer raspberry color. These are just basic lip balms from what I can tell. They go on a bit waxy which isn't my favorite. They are pretty conditioning but I don't feel like they really penetrate my lips to provide more long lasting benefits. I didn't care for the tinted balm at all. It wasn't much color at all and made me look frumpy. These are lightly scented and smell of lemons. I just would never fork over $22 for this product. People rave about these, but unless there is something major that I am missing, these just seem to be mediocre lip balms in fancy packaging that are extremely overpriced for what they deliver.

  • Bare Escentuals On The Spot Eye Makeup Remover

I got these about a year ago and have had them in my makeup bag ever since. These are perfect for touching up smudged eye makeup or even removal of all eye makeup in a pinch. What's great about these too is they qualify for your airline carry on. You just snap the top and the remover drops down into the other end of the cotton bud. I was surprised to find that these are even less expensive than the Almay ones available in the drugstore. My only pet peeve about these is that sometimes not all of the makeup remover makes its way down to the other end for use. I will continue to buy these so I can have them on hand in my makeup bag and for nights away. What a great makeup innovation!
