  • Maybelline New York Color Sensational Vivids

When I heard that Maybelline was launching a neon lipstick line, I was skeptical. My experience with neon lipsticks has always been disappointing-I have found that they are always either too sheer or they completely accentuate fine lines in my lips. However, Maybelline’s regular lipsticks are favorites of mine, so I decided to give this collection a shot and purchased two shades. I was beyond delighted, and have since collected 7 of the colors. Each one is unique and bold, yet somehow wearable. The formula to these lipsticks is typical for Maybelline-smooth and creamy, buildable, and not too sticky. I have actually found these lipsticks to have a bit stronger staying power than the regular line. I’m not sure how Maybelline managed to formulate such an amazing neon line, but it is so great to have so many bold colors to make a statement with, confidently. That has been very important to me-when I am making such a bold statement with my lips, I don’t want to have to worry about the quality of the lipstick. This collection gives me the assurance I need to rock the bold lip, be it neon red, pink, fuschia, orange, coral, purple, or rose. I sincerely hope that these colors go on the permanent line, because they are truly statements and I think the drugstore needs more ridiculously daring colors like these. The price is great for the quality, and the packaging is super fun! Now that spring is just around the corner, I will likely be rocking one of these shades nearly every single day. I don’t have anything bad to say about the product, and that in itself is a statement. I recommend these to anyone who is interested in turning up the intensity with their makeup this spring and into the summer.

  • Wet n Wild Color Icon Blusher

For the price, these blushes are great value. The pigment is rich and you get a ton of product for your money. However, the rich pigmentation made them somewhat difficult to blend, and do not even bother attempting to use the brush that comes with the product. Even with a light hand and frivolous blending, the result of using that brush was always patchy. I greatly appreciate that some of these blushes do not come with shimmer; since my eyes are always bold, I find shimmer blushes to be overkill, and these blushes are bold enough without shimmer. As always with wet n wild, the packaging could certainly be better, but all in all for the price it is very worth it. I would love to see a lot more variety from this line. Another suggestion: I think they should just do away with the brush entirely and use the extra space to give us even more blush. Or at least get rid of the brush. They're just wasting money producing a brush no one is going to use.

  • Wet n Wild Wild Shine Nail Color

Wet n Wild Wild Shine Nail Color

For the price, I shouldn't complain.

I will grant Wet n Wild that $0.99 for a nail polish is a great deal. However, I don't even find these polishes to be worth that. Nail polish was the first beauty product I started collecting, and to this day most of my polishes are under $5. I have found that for the same price, LA Colors offers higher quality polishes, and for just a bit more, Sinful Colors, NYC, and Sally Hansen have great lines. The Wet n' Wild line just didn't cut it for me, and here is why: For starters, I found the formula of these nail polishes to be poor. These polishes require at least two coats to get decent color, usually more like three or four. Also, they certainly never dried shiny enough to go without a topcoat. The staying power of these polishes is pretty crummy as well...expect major chipping within the first day or two if you are planning on going without a top coat. There aren't really any unique colors in the line that I could not live without - all are pretty standard and unoriginal. So I would much rather go with a better formula and pigmentation than to bother purchasing these. A general complaint about low-cost nail polishes: it seems that all the fun colors are higher cost. I want to see more original colors coming from the low-end drugstore lines. Overall I would not recommend this product. I think there are many better alternatives. It is not particularly horrible for any reason, I just think that this field and price range of makeup has much better things to offer. As per usual with Wet n Wild, the packaging was another disappointment-it looks very cheap. The odd thing is that although I am not a fan of this line, I find Wet n Wild's megalast line to be fantastic-great colors, great pigmentation, great staying power, even better packaging. I recommend those over these any day.

  • Wet n Wild Ultimate Cover Smooth Foundation

When I really started branching out in the realm of makeup, I realized that although I was beginning to get quite a selection of products, I still owned only one foundation: my Lorac oil free liquid foundation. So I set off to the drugstore in search of more affordable finds. I picked this foundation up along with Revlon Colorstay, and it is lucky I picked up the great Revlon product or I might have been forever scared of drugstore foundations. This product is completely terrible. It dries very quickly, rolling into little balls of foundation that are not fun to get off your face. What product stays on my face seems to tint my skin a bit, providing a bit more evenness of skin tone than my natural skin. However, it didn't even help masking blemishes and spots. At all. I understand that for a foundation, this product has a great price. But sometimes, you get what you pay for, and a price this great is clearly too good to be true thus far. The name is the most ironic thing of all. Ultimate usually refers to the best imaginable, and to this day this is the worst foundation I have ever attempted to wear. With or without primer, with or without setting powder, the product left did nothing to help my oily skin except break it out even more. I try different techniques with this product from time to time, but the result thus far has been universal disappointment. The second word of the name is cover, which is ridiculous since this foundation possesses the covering power of a tinted moisturizer at best. The next word: smooth. As afore mentioned, this foundation clumps like crazy if you aren't quick enough. However, going too quick leaves streaks. There is no way to win with this and I will definitely never repurchase it. Solid thumbs down.

  • Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick

The price of this lipstick is what kept me away from it for a very long time-since I found 8 dollar drugstore lipsticks to be hit and miss at best, I could not fathom a decent product for just a dollar. However, upon my first tentative purchase of a Silk Finish lipstick, I was blown away. ~The texture: As the name suggests, all of the lipsticks I have purchased from this line go on incredibly smooth and silky. They are not sticky or drying in the least. I find their texture quite comparable to that of a MAC lipstick. Such smoothness is what makes them buildable. ~The formula: The formula of these lipsticks is unbelievable for the price. I found that these lipsticks to not vanish into my lips, nor do they slide around and build up around the edges. I will say that they do not have much power against eating and drinking, but for the price, you can easily afford to smooth on another quick coat after a meal. They certainly are not sheer, but they can be built up a bit with two or three coats for a bold look. ~The colors: I would prefer a bit more of a color selection. Personally I hate shimmery lipsticks and many of these have a pearly finish. More creme shades would be great, but the selection is certainly far from terrible. Overall, I highly recommend this lipstick. I have discovered that the price allows me the freedom to pick up shades I wouldn't normally buy for fear of not liking them, and thus I have discovered some unusual and daring new shades. One small complaint in closing-it seems that in their efforts to create such a good quality product at such a great price, Wet n Wild has neglected packaging once again. While functional, it could certainly look a little prettier.

  • Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Trio

Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Trio

    Favorite Drugstore Eyeshadows

As the Wet n' Wild brand has some of the lowest prices in the drugstore, I was extremely cautious about buying their products at first, and it is true that they are hit and miss. However, their eyeshadows are hands down magnificent. It seems that shimmer eyeshadows are easier to formulate well; you can find a decent shimmer shadow from almost any brand at almost any price. However, it is nearly impossible to find high-quality matte shadows at a decent price. And although Wet n' Wild has plenty of shimmer shadows, I am incredibly impressed by the smoothness and selection of their matte shadows as well. I have yet to find a Wet n' Wild eyeshadow that I don't love and I have collected nearly half of their palettes including a couple limited edition ones. BEST FEATURES: ~easy to blend ~rich, pigmented colors ~incredible price WORST FEATURES: Honestly, nothing about these shadows is terrible. But I would like to see more color selections, and I have noticed a few of my matte shades have a bit of fallout. My favorite thing about these products has to be their extremely high pigmentation combined with their ability to blend. I find many eyeshadows to have only one of the former features. However, Wet n' Wild has managed to combine incredibly rich color with amazingly smooth blending ability. One layer of color has my eyes popping, yet I can easily blend shadows with each other and even other brands. Pure magic, folks. Overall, these products are amazing, and I highly recommend them to anyone. Their palettes vary so greatly in intensity that they suit the meekest beginner AND the most daring makeup artist. While I am a total makeup junkie and have a bathroom full of products, my mom would walk out the door in foundation and mascara if I wasn't always encouraging her to try new things. And while purple eyeliner wasn't really her thing, I have purchased her two of Wet n' Wild's eyeshadow palettes and she now wears the colors almost everyday.
