  • Clarisonic Classic Sonic Skin Cleansing System

The Clarisonic Skin Care System is a professional-grade skincare brush made by the same folks who created the Sonicare toothbrush. Like the toothbrush, the sonic frequency moves the brush back and forth at more than 300 times per second. Although Clarisonic is portable, an impromptu road trip left me little time to pack I am longing to get home to a hot bath and a thorough but gentle 60-second cleansing with the Clarisonic brush. With only a few days away from home without using the brush, my pores feel like they are overflowing with dirt, makeup, and oil. More importantly, my moisturizers seem to be sitting on top of my skin instead of being absorbed, and I have an array of dry skin patches. As a Retin-A devotee, I have found the skin care system to be gentle enough to use daily and most times twice a day. With three speeds, women (or men) with rosacea, eczema, anti-aging concerns, and other skin issues should be able to use the Clarisonic Skincare System on a daily basis. The set includes a Clarisonic brush and charger, a sensitive brush head, Gentle Hydro Cleanser for sensitive skin, Refreshing Gel Cleanser for normal and oily skin, and Nourishing Care Cleanser for normal to dry skin. It is recommend that if you used the brush daily, you should replace the head every three months. Just in time for the holidays, you can personalize a *gray, pink, or white Clarisonic with a name or short message. Your personalized message will be imprinted onto the back of the Clarisonic handle, right under the Clarisonic logo. *(Men can use Clarisonic for cleansing and shaving, too.)

  • OPI Nic's Sticks

After Mother's Day Brunch with my family, Mom pulls out a sample she had received and asked me to review it: Nicole by OPI - Nic's Sticks. At first glance, it looks like a magic marker. With a shake-pump-and-paint action, I magically painted my nails with ease. The color -- Text Me (sixth pen from the left) -- was a Ballet Pink does Mauve. Sitting at the table having tea, I did one coat on all ten nails in a matter of a minute. I am more ambidextrous than most, but I think anyone could successfully paint their nails with Nic's Sticks -- even tremendous tremulous Mom. I intend to purchase other colors. This is magic in a pen. Keep moving, Jamie

  • IQ Derma Clear Remedy Purifying Cleanser

Beauty Product Review of iQ Clear Remedy 3 Step Kit ($135) Reviewed by Jamie What is included in the iQ Clear Remedy 3-Step Kit? * Purifying Cleanser * Acne Treatment Lotion * Hydrating Lotion Spending most of my day teaching exercise classes or training in a gym wreaks havoc on my skin. Add the humid summer weather to the mix, and I have a nasty recipe for acne. With a small area of acne dancing on my forehead, I followed this routine for two weeks: I washed my face every night with the cleanser and then applied the acne treatment twice a day. I was happy to see that the acne had vamoosed after the two-week period. iQ Purifying Cleanser contains "intelligent ingredients" that consists of Multifruit BSC, Phehydane, and Botanesse. It is gentle enough for dry skin but removes dead skin cells to keep pores clean. iQ Derma Acne Treatment Lotion contains 2 percent salicylic acid and "intelligent ingredients" that include iQ101, Farmesol, Flavenger Complex, and Phytic Acid, and is designed to normalize oil production and decrease bacterium; exfoliate dead skin cells to reduce clogged pores; deeply hydrate and soothe stressed, dehydrated skin; and reduce acne scarring and promote more uniform skin tone. Over-the-counter salicylic acid products are found in strengths ranging from .5 to 2 percent. With iQ treatment lotion containing 2 percent salicylic acid, it works great offensively and defensively. Salicylic acid is especially helpful in treating acne because of its ability to penetrate the follicle. It encourages the shedding of dead skin cells from within the follicle, helping keep the pores clear of cellular debris. In this way, it reduces the number of pore blockages and breakouts on the skin. iQ Treatment Lotion is best used on women with oily or combination skin. Hydrating lotion is also c

  • Ojon Tawaka Ancient Tribal Rejuvenating Conditioner

Beauty Product Review: Tawaka Ancient Tribal Rejuvenating Conditioner by Ojon (Sephora $32) I wouldn't call myself patient. I abhor sitting in the salon chair for hours on end to get highlights. So in preparation for the 4th of July weekend, I jumped in my car and headed to CVS for a highlighting kit. You probably know where this is headed. Hair disaster! My normally ash blond hair now has sections that are gray, dry, and brittle. My saving grace is pulling it back in a ponytail. The other saving grace is that Tawaka Ancient Tribal Rejuvenating Conditioner and Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment (which I will review in another post) hydrated and restored a healthy look to my overprocessed, fried locks. My tresses were silky and smooth, not sizzling. Unfortunately, the gray streaks remained until I used -- well, that's another story for another day. Why is Tawaka Ancient Tribal Rejuvenating Conditioner Unique? Although the product is light copper in color, the conditioner contains the equivalent of 125 pounds of blueberries. With many studies purporting that blueberries improve short-term memory, do you think continued use of this conditioner will improve my -- what was I talking about? Oh, yeah, memory. I guess that really would be brains on beauty. Pros: * 98% natural * intensively moisturizing * enriched with antioxidants * sulfate-free * conditioning treatment for the hair, scalp, and body * natural scent * enriched with Ojon oil found in the rainforests Cons: I con not think of any, except the price. Tawaka Ancient Tribal Rejuvenating Cleanser ($32) is also available.

  • Crabtree & Evelyn Aromatherapy Distillations Revitalizing - Skin Polishing Ritual

What is Aromatherapy Distillations Revitalizing - Skin Polishing Ritual? Contains Exotic Spice Medley (5.25 oz) Ultra Moisturizing Body Butter (8.8 OZ) with revitalizing lemon and coriander essential oils and conditioning mango seed butter, avocado and coconut; a ceramic bowl; and a wooden applicator. If you have been following our 31 stress reduction tips, you will know that I'm a bath and spa zealot, and Crabtree and Evelyn didn't disappoint. The heavenly spices are laced with an uplifting lemon, spearmint, and mandarin scent, while the ylang ylang and star anise adds an exceptionally delicate flavor to the blend. For an at-home treat at a reasonable price point, you can relax in the privacy of your own "spa." You choose how much spice and body butter you want to blend in the ceramic bowl. Since I am also an enthusiast of exfoliation, I mixed equal parts of spice and butter for an enchanting brew. After slathering my skin with my custom blend, the gentle exfoliation removed the dead skin, leaving my skin soft and supple. This is a smart purchase for under $50 for any woman who needs a gift of indulgence.

Sothys Sothy's Homme Detoxifying Active Cleanser

Good Enough To Borrow From The HOMME

Ah, The Hubster tested Sothys HOMME Revitalising Hair and Body Care and was more than pleased to be included in a review. For more than 60 years, Sothys’ success in the luxury market has depended on it keeping faith with the values that have gone to make up its identity with superior quality, and now they have expanded their market to include luxury beauty products for men. With male skin being from Mars and female skin being from Venus, this new HOMME (re)generation line from Sothys Paris is a high technology line designed for the specific needs of male skin. The Hubster found Sothys HOMME Hair and Body Care's fragrance suitable to his masculine senses: clean and crisp. I, too, found the scent to be clean and crisp and unequivocally unisex. If you are a woman attracted to clean, crisp scents like moi, you will not only love the way your HOMME smells, but you may want to borrow HOMME's Sothys' products. With a personality consistent with a type A and a multitasker, my Significant Other embraced the quick two-in-one formula. Lather. Scrub. Rinse. Towel-off. Most importantly from my husband's standpoint, he has found that many shampoos don't provide enough conditioning, but he tested Sothys HOMME Hair and Body Care sans conditioner. The hair and body care combo left not only his hair soft but his skin felt hydrated, too.

White Sands Liquid Texture Firm Hold Styling Spray

White Sands Liquid Texture Firm Hold Is A Windy Day's Best Defense

Windy city or breezy day defense: White Sands Firm Hold Liquid Texture White Sands Firm Hold Liquid Texture doesn't make hair look like there's any product in it. However, your stands won't be packing and moving for a long while. Fernando Salas, developer and stylist, calls it the "ultimate design tool." It doesn't leave a sticky residue like other hairsprays. In fact, your hair will still be soft to the touch. The thermal technology actually gives the appearance of shinier hair. I sprayed my curls the other night and the product was quick drying. Then, I gently brushed through it for a softer 'do. Also available in soft and medium hold.

  • Obagi Nu-Derm Condition & Enhance System

Preparing for microdermabrasion about five years ago, I succumbed to my doctor's advice and plunked down the cash for Obagi Condition and Enhance System. Although it was extremely effective, I stopped using it, primarily because I changed derms. Somewhere in the recesses of my mind, I also remember "The System" being too much of a system, too complicated, too many products. But testing it for this review refreshed my memory and skin on its efficacy. With eight products, Obagi Condition and Enhance System is designed to enhance the results of facial aesthetic procedures including but not limited to microdermabrasion, ablative lasers, dermal fillers, facial surgeries, Botox, ablative chemical peels, and laser resurfacing. How To Use: There is a morning routine and an evening routine which uses different products. You prepare your skin by cleansing with the Gentle Cleanser or Foaming Gel and then removing any residue with the Toner. You repair by using Clear, 4 percent Hydroquinone, which corrects discolorations, and Exfoderm, an alpha hydroxy acid that removes dead skin cells. You then apply Blender, Hydroquinone, and Tretinoin (which is the active ingredient in Retin-A and Renova and not included in this system and is available by prescription only), which normalizes cellular turnover. Finally, you use Healthy Skin Protection SPF 35 or Physical UV Block 32 to inhibit future damage. Results: Although this is a pricey skin care regimen, I know Obagi Condition and Enhance System works. After only a few days of usage, my skin looks surprisingly refreshed. The prescription strength products, including 4 percent hydroquinone and Tretinoin, will more than likely cause a tingling sensation and leave your skin red at first, but after a month of usage, your skin should become accustomed to the new products. If your skin can tolerate these products, this is the best option for improving collagen production and minimizing signs of sun damage. Bottom Line: Does the word "medical" that is associated with this product and the medical terms used to market this system, like senile lentigines and acne vulgaris (which mean age spots and pimples) truly make this skin care regimen worth the price? Not wholly. You certainly could purchase a drugstore cleanser like Eucerin Gentle Hydrating Cleanser ($7.00) The toner in this system is formulated for dry skin and it's hard to find a comparable drugstore alternative. The other products, including Retin-A, are worth the price. As a result of the many Obagi products used in this skin care regimen and the addition of Retin-A, there is a slight learning curve, but for pre-surgical cosmetic patients or women seeking antiaging products, this treatment regimen is highly effective. Obagi is targeted for women ages 25 to 55, but women who are considering any type of nonsurgical or surgical cosmetic procedure or have age spots, sallow skin, hyperpigmentation, acne, or rough skin would also benefit from this system. Although you can purchase Obagi skin care products on the Internet, Obagi recently launched a new website that encourages women to partner with a physician to improve the overall health of their skin.

    Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

Don't Let Your Eye Shadow Pull A David Copperfield On You -- Use Urban Decay Primer Potion

I had read a myriad of reviews about this "little known" beauty secret. Being a sceptic, I didn't buy into the secret. The hype was that it keeps your eye shadow in place and vibrant all day (and night!) and that it was a "little miracle." You put just a dab on the lid, blend in, then add liner and shadow. I had my Sephora Girl apply my "test-drive" early in the day. By dinner that night, miraculously, my eye makeup didn't pull a David Copperfield disappearing act. It was still in place. More importantly, my eye makeup didn't try to hide in my creases. This is brains on beauty!

    AminoGenesis Photolagen-AGF

    Anti-Aging Serum

The Antidote to Aging: Beauty Product Review of AminoGenesis's Photolagen Skin Care Product ($89) Being a reformed sun worshipper, I am always willing to be a guinea pig when it comes to testing anti-aging and skin care repair products, and AminoGenesis's Photolagen, a sun damage serum, was an experiment I was willing to undertake. When Charlie Brown, Mr. UPS -- I promise you, Charlie Brown is his real name -- arrives at my front door with more than one package containing skin care products, I will test one product on one hand, another product on another hand, and the third one on my face. In this particular case, I tested Photolagen on my right hand. WHAT IS AMINOGENESIS PHOTOLAGEN? Photolagen is a serum that combines a delivery system that transports vital moisture deep into your skin, 17 amino acids to help increase collagen, and a patented peptide technology to repair the surface of your skin. HOW TO USE: Apply to freshly cleansed face and neck areas twice daily (or in my case, hands). RESULTS: The product didn't remove the age spots on my right hand, but it clearly reduced a few recently obtained freckles. PRICE: With two pumps per application, you get a two-month supply/120 treatments. BOTTOM LINE: At only a few cents per application and with promising research on the postive effects of peptides and amino acids on the skin, AminoGenesis's Photolagen is a product women with sun damage, age spots, or freckles might want to consider.
