    L'Oreal Colour Riche Eyeshadow Quads

L'Oreals Rich Shadow Quads are Gorgeous!

I've been "eyeing" L'Oreal's new "Colour Riche" Eye Shadow quads for a few months now (stupid pun intended.) No, I don't need another palette, but these colors are so rich, so decadent, so opulent that they practically jump off the drugstore shelves and into my hands. The multitude of online and magazine ads have added to the pressure for me--and I am well aware of the tactics they are using, as one of my degrees is in marketing! So I caved; I decided to choose one--just one--quad for now, and it was "Sultry Seductress," No. 527. L'Oreal's quads come in a mix of shimmer and matte finishes. This particular palette is all-shimmer and very seductive. There is a helpful schematic on the back on how to achieve a smoky look. The colors? Ah, an absolutely gorgeous, sumptuous taupe, becoming for all women, all skin tones. Just a swipe of this shade would work well for an everyday or evening look. It more than justified the $7.50 I paid for the compact. I was happy! Add to that a hard-to-resist creamy, shimmery peach which can be used from brow to lid or simply as a highlighter. My hazel-green eyes always benefit from great plums. L'Oreal adds a deep, inky, stunning amethyst to the mix, a shade which seems to have the least gleam of all. It is amazing to contour, create a come-hither "cat eye," or smudge under bottom lashes as a soft eyeliner. The last color is a glittering black. Once more, this can be used to contour or line eyes. The texture is pure velvet. I kept the applicator which came with the palette for on-the-go use, but I work with my own brushes at home. The shadows apply and blend very adeptly and smoothly. When used over a good primer, like Too Faced's "Shadow Insurance," all-day into evening wear is ensured. Other quads, like "Army Brat" (a combination of browns) are still calling my name. It seems that I have no choice but to answer and purchase more . . .

  • Ole Henriksen Firm Action Mask
    10.0

    Ole Henriksen Firm Action Mask

    Ole Makes a Superb Mask!

I grew up making my own homemade masks, and I think I did a good job. I would have occasional, usually cyclical, breakouts in my teen years into my twenties and even early thirties, and the oatmeal would exfoliate, "polish" my skin, and leave it like silk. Blemishes would begin to disappear without any harsh treatments. I'm glad that skin experts firmly believe in and promote the use of masks--they are wonderful in many ways. When you wear a mask, it's your time to close your eyes, relax, and just feel the goodness sink in--sort of like a "mini-vacation" away from the whirlwind taking place around you. And the benefits are manifold. I reap a lot of benefits from Ole Henriksen's "Firm Action Mask" ($16.00-$27.00 at the Henriksen site; congratulations, Ole, on offering a small "trial" size to customers before they make a major expenditure). Several months ago I began using their products. Although I love the skin care from many other companies such as Mary Kay, Lancome, and others, Ole leaves my complexion with a refinement and lucidity no other firm's products do. This mask is the ULTIMATE! It is formulated with Kaolin, the same clay used to create fine China. Kaolin absorbs impurities and excess oil. So does Dead Sea Salt (with the added benefit of lifting skin). Aloe Leaf Juice moisturizes, calms, and heals, while Calendula also works as a healing ingredient. Golden Seal Extract in an astringent, reducing inflammation and comforting. Echinacea, a form of the potent, miracle-working Vitamin C, strengthens the skin's outer layer. Another aspect is that this mask is for all complexion types. It has a pleasant smell. Henriksen suggests using two to three times weekly (make sure you work it into your routine at LEAST once). After cleansing, apply a generous layer to your face and neck, being sure to avoid the delicate eye area. Leave on for a full ten minutes, and then remove with plenty of water and a warm, wet cloth or sponge. Follow with a toner and your usual regimen--mine is a Henriksen serum and then a moisturizer. My skin is like marble after using this; it is clear, ultra-smooth, and pores are difficult to even see. I always use this before a special event, but it's good to get in the habit of using it regularly

  • Becca Beach Tint

    Becca Beach Tint

    Becca is So Very Beautiful!

Becca's "Beach Tint" found its way into our home in a unique way. I have a friend with the name of Becca. I saw this product online years ago, found the product name amusing, and sent one to her and another to myself. I could not be more glad that I did this! "Beach Tint" is a gorgeous, creamy stain for both cheeks and lips. It is available in a wide variety of flattering, stunning shades for $25.00 at Sephora. I began with a cheery pink--"Watermelon." It is an exquisite hue with a complementary, delectable watermelon fragrance. This tint is completely oil-free and blends easily, with no seams where color begins and ends whatsoever. Coverage is subtle. You can dispense a small amount from the tube and continue to add color until you reach the intensity of the shade you want (a small tube does last a long time). Vitamin E and a Nylon complex make this formula most comforting, even when you apply it to your lips. It is non-drying and gives a natural flush of very long-lasting color. This is one of the best tints I've ever used and I plan to collect several more in the near future. It's a great addition to your spring makeup collection, a great multi-tasker which will see you through days of sun and fun!

  • Buxom Lash Mascara

    Buxom Lash Mascara

    Buxom is Truly Beautiful!

I am on an unending quest for THE "perfect" mascara. Many I use come close, such as Benefit's "They're Real!," Lancôme's "Definicils" and "Hypnôse Star Mascara," along with several from drugstores. I believe I received "Buxom" Mascara as a sample in a packet with other items. I was most pleasantly surprised! This mascara is safe for even the most sensitive eyes. It is free of Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates, and synthetic dyes and fragrances. Better yet, it is vitamin-enriched to treat lashes with care. The company itself suggests how to use this rich formula: On bottom lashes, apply only to the topside (I have to wonder how you would apply it any other way). Since lashes are thicker at the roots, they advise beginning with the tips and then sweeping the mascara from root to tip. Buxom says several coats can be added, and this is true. This does not clump or flake and separates very well. It remains pliable and soft (it reminds me somewhat of Maybelline's "Full and Soft"), as you can use as many coats as you want until desired volume, length, and color are achieved. I will still continue to use other mascaras, but this is excellent, wonderful, and nearly perfect.

  • Lush Honey I Washed The Kids Soap

I was walking through the Lush section of Macy's with my husband, and he asked if we could please skip trying the items--just ONCE. The next thing I knew, he was talking to a Lush saleswoman and washing his hands in their sink with "Honey I Washed the Kids" soap. I gave him a questioning look and he asked me to smell it along with him; it is completely enticing. It's the sweet caramel fragrance which is hard to resist. This mild soap contains a great deal of Honey Water, Rapeseed and Coconut Oils, Beeswax, and Sweet Wild Orange and Bergamot Oils. Add to that Aloe Vera Extract, Gardenia Extract, and Glycerin. It has a really smooth, luxurious texture. Your entire family with enjoy the lather, the scent, and the softened skin which comes about as a result of using it. A hint: Keep Lush soaps on a soap-drying dish so that water doesn't wear or melt them away. This is a luscious treat!

  • Veet Hair Removal Gel Cream Pump

Veet Hair Removal Gel Cream Pump

Veet Was Very Bad for Me

How much do I hate hair on my body? I began shaving my legs in third grade, without the knowledge of my parents. I used my father's very sharp double-edged razor blade and, with my motor skills not as honed as they later grew to be, wound up with a bloody mess. My parents became suspicious when I was wearing woolen knee socks in the summer. My mother understood my disdain for body hair as well as my tendency to be stubborn and bought me a woman's electric razor. It was never as horrific a scene again, as my young skin was protected this way. Fast-forward to the days before my wedding. I had returned to using a good, thick shaving cream or shower gel and regular razor blades with a comfort strip because I want my skin to be devoid of even ONE hair and feel like marble. In my excitement for the ceremony, I shaved my legs and arms and ALSO then used Nair and a loofah afterward to achieve the aforementioned results (I know, I know!). I wound us with a rash so ferociously ugly that my husband nearly fainted when he saw through my elbow-length lace gloves. "You look like a fairy tale princess," he whispered to me after I came down the aisle, tears in his eyes, "but what the heck did you do to your arms?" There was one positive thing about the rash--we spent our honeymoon in Disneyworld and were able to move to the head of any line; people just backed away when they saw me coming. I didn't have good results with Veet. The idea of a plastic tool for removal is brilliant! I made sure NOT to shave beforehand or use any other products (my loofah was locked away). I covered my skin with the cream and the smell was less than pleasant. I left it on for the allotted time and the great majority of my fine hair remained. Ingrown hairs were brought to the surface, along with red patches and bumps. I don't have sensitive skin and can withstand what most women can't, but there was a terrible itching sensation. I couldn't get it off fast enough. So it's back to razors for me. It's hard to find an electric shaver that works closely enough, but Veet was a waste of money and caused me problems. I don't recommend it.

  • Sephora Collector's Edition Fragrance Sampler For Him

My husband loves fragrance--on me first, and also on himself. He probably owns more scents than I do, but that is because I encourage it. He is good-looking, dresses well, and is highly respected as a teacher. I want him to feel great about himself all of the time. Sephora makes it much easier when they offer men's value fragrance kits. The last one I purchased had a scent we LOVE--Dior's "Farenheit" (it's a bit strong at first but melds down to a heady, seductive aroma). It also came with Paco Rabanne's "Million," "John Varvatos," Bvlgari's "Aqva Pour Homme," and Gucci's "Guilty." He rotates them continually and I have fun guessing which one he's wearing. It's an excellent way to try fragrance before making a major investment. Keep these kits coming, Sephora, and we'll be waiting for them!

  • Lancome Color Design Doll Lashes Edition Eye Brightening All-In-One 5 Shadow & Liner Palette

I said in other reviews that I am continually drawn to palettes because of my affinity for color, painting, and cosmetics in general. Actually, I've said that I have a palette-loving soul, and all of my family members and friends know it and give me palettes for my birthday, Christmas, and other occasions. But I never have enough! I've been using Lancôme's magnificent skin care products since my early twenties, and I always loved their makeup. I am never without their "Dual Finish Versatile Powder Makeup," and I always enjoyed their single and dual shadows. One of their best ideas ever was to create a compact combining several hues. I have this palette in "Lavender Grace." There is a flattering, pinkish shade to use all over the eye, from lid to brow. You then color and contour with a sweet lilac, a gentle gray, and an intriguing, multi-faceted shadow in peach with hints of several other hues throughout it (most unusual and quite beautiful). A deep amethyst can be used along with or instead of the gray to line, smudge under bottom lashes, or create a smoky "cat eye." These shades are so velvety that they practically apply themselves; blending could not possibly be easier. Lancôme created them specifically to illuminate the eye area, and they do just that! These are highly-pigmented shadows which wear at least ten hours over a good primer. You may want to use the colors subtly during the day and then darken them for an evening out. Another benefit is that they can be used wet or dry. The price of $49.00 may seem high, but not when you get as much wear out of a palette as you do with this one. The finish is simply radiant and would make any woman glow. There are a number of color combinations, with several appropriate for any skin tone. Oh, Lancôme, I love you!

    Sephora Matte Blotting Film

    Perfect for Touch-Ups!

I love the texture of these; they don't disturb my makeup at all but do clear away excess oil and any grime that may have landed on my face. I carry them with me all the time and have some in my desk at school and my car's glove compartment. They are life-savers!

  • Chanel Collection Essentielle De Chanel Multi-Use Make-up Palette

I have a palette-loving soul. Yes, I have been drawn to eye shadows, blushes, lipsticks, and lip glosses since an early age, but when you put them all together in a palette, I find them nearly impossible to resist (this past Christmas friends bought me palettes and I bought myself three!). This was a gift from my husband, who is my palette-loving soulmate. He understands my love of beauty, of color (and of painting, my favorite avocation). I nearly fell over when he bought this for me, and I was thinking of picking up another on Amazon or eBay because I am nearing the end of this one (and for the sake of cleanliness, this one should be thown away). "Gorgeous" is an understatement for these colors. The shades are perfectly coordinated to work together in an understated manner (that doesn't mean that you can't use them for a night of all-out glamour!). Let's start with the eye shadows--plush, finely-milled shades with some sheen in creamy champagne, tender pink, a taupe/copper mix, and brown. They go on gently, and coverage is buildable. These shadows, with their wonderful texture, are also quite blendable. You can create a multitude of different looks with them. I'm not a huge bronzer fan, but this shade is relatively neutral, completely natural, and makes me look like I've taken a walk in the brisk air. It mixes right into my skin. I use it as a blush and then fluff a bit over my forehead, the bridge of my nose, and then over my chin. The lipsticks have a matte finish but come in lovely shades, red and a pink/coral. I often mix them for a surprisingly flattering hue. And I always use them with the incredible gold-infused lip glosses. This palette is certainly a splurge. I wish it had a foundation, concealer, a tiny mascara, possibly an eyebrow pencil, and brushes and tools for on-the-go use, but it's hard to complain when you possess something so very lovely and unforgettable. Oh, why am I still sitting here typing? I should be picking up another one instead!
