  • Eucerin Skin Calming Itch-Relief Treatment

Waste of money. I took a medication that was making my skin itch so bad I scratched my skin until it bled. I bought Eucerin because I associate the product name with something medical (don't ask me why). Any how, I literally used the whole bottle all over my body and then had to scratch through cream. I went back to the CVS and bought Benadryl itch spray, CVS itch spray, Caladryl Clear lotion, the Afterbite Itch Eraser, and pink Caladryl (I wanted to make sure I bought SOMETHING that worked!). The best product turned out to be the Benadryl spray. Maybe it's just me, but I find sprays or rollons (like the AfterBite) always work better than creams, go on quicker, work faster, work longer, and don't make as much of a mess (or stain my clothes). I am going to start taking my iPad to the store with me so I can log in to Totalbeauty and read reviews before I buy things. I really believe people are being honest and don't have hidden agendas.

  • Bare Escentuals Well-Cared For Brush Conditioning Shampoo

Washing your cosmetic brushes on a regular basis is just as important as keeping your toothbrush clean (which, by the way, I soak in a glass with denture cleaner tabs twice per week, then discard and replace monthly…but I digress…) or your body, for that matter.  I don’t know about you, but sometimes I am using my mineral powder brush on a face that isn’t necessarily clean – especially during the day after being outside in the smog, on the train with bodies and armpits inches from my face, in elevators, sitting in traffic with the window open getting car exhaust in my face, etc.  Bare Minerals brush conditioning shampoo is awesome.  It gets rid of all the powder, sweat, dust, etc., that multiplies in the brushes each time you use them.  I have 4 sets of makeup brushes: 1) the bathroom (get ready in the morning) set; 2) the back-up bathroom set; 3) the mini-size set I keep in my purse’s makeup bag; and 4) a set I keep in my travel bag.  Since I wash the brushes a couple of times per week, the back-up bathroom set is very important.  You never know, especially on the weekends, when you might have to use the brushes more than once per day.  If you need to use them after the morning show and they are still wet, you would be screwed.  I wash the brushes in my purse on a weekly basis, depending on whether or not I have used them.  The ones in my travel bag I wash when I get home from a trip and let them dry before repacking.  Bare Minerals brush shampoo goes a long way so you don’t have to worry about the cost.  It lasts for months.  I read one reviewer’s comments that said she uses “baby shampoo” because it is cheaper.  I haven’t tried that, but I am content with using a product that is made to clean what I am cleaning.  Make sure you hold the brushes down when cleaning them and run your fingers through the bristles in a downward motion.  (Don’t smash the bristles around like you’re washing your dog or something.)  If you don’t believe that washing your brushes will do anything about getting rid of dirt and bacteria, wash them for this reason – IT PROLONGS THE LIFE OF YOUR BRUSHES AND BRUSHES CAN BE EXPENSIVE!

  • Oral-B Glide Pro-Health Original Floss

I have tried every tooth floss in CVS and I can honestly say that NOTHING works better than Oral-B Glide Pro-Health floss.  My teeth are very tight, especially where I have caps.  Before my dentist turned me on to Oral-B, I had basically stopped flossing because whenever I flossed, I kept getting floss stuck in my teeth.  A few times, I had to go to the dentist to get the floss out of my teeth (especially around the capped teeth) and that's an expensive effort.  This floss is good because it is very smooth, is cut at a great angle, and gently glides through your teeth.  It is important when you are flossing not to just jam the floss between your teeth and yank it out.  You need to slide it all around the edges of the teeth and then pull it through your teeth, not up through the top (if you are using something other than Oral B, good luck with the mess that makes!).  Use long pieces, too – don’t be cheap with it.  The cost isn’t that bad.  (Easier to floss properly with longer pieces of floss.)  Plus, there are coupons for Oral-B products all the time in the paper.  Use them!

  • Crest Whitestrips Classic
    10.0

    Crest Whitestrips Classic

    Crest Classic Strips

Crest White Strips are part of my everyday beauty regime.  Doesn't matter how good your makeup and hair looks if your teeth aren't clean and bright. When I get to the sink in the morning, I immediately apply my Crest White Strips (Classics) and leave them on for 20 minutes.  (Some versions of the Strips require longer time to stay on.)  I use the regular strips versus the 3D or other expensive versions.  They are cheap (using coupons found in the Sunday papers and finding Strips on sale, I have been able to buy them for a little over $10 vs. $50 for others).  WARNING!  I know that I have sensitive teeth (I use Sensodyne toothpaste.) and if I use the strips properly, I don’t have any problems.  However, if I leave the strips on for more than 20 minutes my teeth are in extreme pain and the pain lasts for the entire day.  The pain is only on the bottom of my top teeth and the top of my bottom teeth (when you put the strips on, part goes on the front of your teeth and then you fold the extra part under the bottom/top of your teeth and behind your teeth).  The only way I can get rid of the pain is with the use of Anbesol.  Now, I have friends with “normal” teeth who have left the Strips on for too long and have also gotten tooth pain.  So, I’m not sure if it matters whether or not you have sensitive teeth.  I think it matters that you use the product the way it tells you to use it.  To avoid problems I do the following: 1) set the alarm of the radio in my bathroom to make sure I don’t go over.  2) When I take the Strips off, I make sure i brush my teeth and especially pay attention to the top and bottom of the teeth.  That said, you shouldn’t leave home without them!

  • Lancome L'Extreme Mascara
    10.0

    Lancome L'Extreme Mascara

    Lancôme rules!

I use this mascara, as well as the Hypnose Drama and the Oscillation Intensity (depending on where I'm going. I use L'Extreme by day and Drama by night.) I put Lancome's Oscillation Primer on first (primer is awesome extra help for mascara and for making your lashes thicker. Don't have one? Run out and get it!). Then I use the Oscillation Intensity (a vibrating mascara), to separate the lashes before using Drama or L'Extreme. Make sure you wait at least 30 seconds after adding the primer before adding the mascara. If you wait a minute between applications of the mascara, it makes your eyelashes look fuller.

  • Rimmel London Colour Rush Duo Eyeshadow
    2.0

Rimmel London Colour Rush Duo Eyeshadow

You get what you pay for

I was tempted into buying this product because of a commercial with hot looking models wearing Rimmel products. I didn't really even see a color I liked, but I bought one that had a brown. Now, I'm used to using Iman, Lancôme, MAC, etc., so this was a brave move - and ultimately, a stupid one! Wasn't soft, wouldn't spread, creased, wouldn't stay on, color was ugly, what else can I say?

  • bareMinerals SPF 25 Mineral Veil
    3.0

    bareMinerals SPF 25 Mineral Veil

Medium to dark skin - don't bother!

When you buy Bare Minerals, you are told this is a "must" over your chosen color. I beg to disagree. Bare Minerals is awesome as foundation because it covers imperfections, makes your skin look flawless, doesn't come off when you sweat, and doesn't make your face look like you are wearing makeup. However, if you have medium to dark color skin (I am multi-racial and have light/medium brown skin) and you add Mineral Veil, it stands out like a sore thumb on your face and makes you look like you are wearing bad makeup - the wrong color or too much powder. I honestly think it is a white/very light skin makeup and should be sold as such. (I also tried it alone, based on what another reviewer said, and that was even worse.). Hate to say anything bad about Bare Minerals because they have such great products, but I think the marketing for this is wrong.

  • Kat Von D Tattoo Liner

I strongly disagree with bad reviews for this product. I had brain surgery. So much of my skull near the left eye was removed that my eyelid on the left eye sometimes droops. Because of this, my pencil eyeliner was always coming off on the right hand corner of the eye. So, I started looking for a liquid eyeliner or a waterproof eyeliner because I thought it would stay on longer than the pencil. I tried products from Maybelline, Avon, Estée Lauder, Stile, Urban Decay, etc. Nothing was staying on. So, I went to my favorite store, Sephora, told a worker there about my problem, and asked for a suggestion. A young girl highly recommended Kat Von D tattoo liner. I figured anything with the name "tattoo" should work, so I bought it. And, it worked!!!! I no longer look in the mirror an hour after applying the liner and see nothing - I see a perfect black line. Plus, it is easy to take off. Now, when I first got it, I couldn't figure out how to get it "out." There was nothing to "dip" it in. But I soon learned if you give the tube a hard shake, pointed down in the direction of the brush, you're all set. Eye makeup is very important to me. People say my eyes are my best feature. So having the surgery and not being able to keep makeup on my left eye was heartbreaking. I will forever be grateful to Kat Von Z for their wonderful product and the young girl at Sephora who took the time to tell me about the product and recommended it.

  • Patricia Wexler M.D. Universal Anti-Aging Cleanser

If I am going to pay a lot more for a product, I expect it to work better. The DHCProduct costs less and works better. The Wexler product cleaned my face, but I don't feel it did all the things the DHC product did like making my skin softer, making it feel smoother, making it look brighter. The DHC product definitely doesn't overstep the skin and I felt this product did in the eye and nose area. I agree that using less is definitely more with the Wexler product, but the cost of the DHC product is small, so I don't care if I slap it on!

  • DHC Deep Cleansing Oil
    10.0

    DHC Deep Cleansing Oil

    Perfect for oily skin, too

People think your skin has to be dry in orde to use an oily makeup remover...WRONG. This product doesn't make your skin oilier. It makes it smoother, softer, cleaner, and brighter. It has also never caused my skin to breakout. Advice when using: 1. Don't wear your good clothes while applying or removing. Clothes don't like it! 2. Make sure you get it all off your face. 3. Keep it out of your hair! 4. Don't be afraid to slap it on, but don't overuse it either. 5. Keep it off your eyes. Some people like to use it for eyes, but I don't. When I have, I have trouble making my eyes no longer blurry. 6. The bottle doesn't travel well. Don't even try it. If you put the product in another bottle, make sure it has a secure cap or you will have a mess to clean up when you arrive. Make sure the bottle is in a separate, zipped bag, too, or you could ruin your clothes. Well, that's it. Great product, great results, great price. Use wisely.
