    the Balm timeBalm Concealer

One of the best concealers out there

When I was at the store to purchase a concealer, the SA who assisted me said this was good for dark under-eye circles. I purchased this for the sole purpose of covering up a couple of dark spots I get from occasional monthly breakouts. I thought that if it's good enough for under-eye circles, it's definitely good enough for hyperpigmentation. Well, it is! The formula goes on smooth and creamy and very easy to blend. I use a concealer brush to apply the product on the dark spots for pin point accuracy then blend with my fingers. The concealer doesn't feel oily on the face and has a light consistency. Best of all, it doesn't cake up by the end of the day. I will continue to use this until the dark spots fade.

  • L'Oreal Paris Telescopic Explosion Carbon Black Mascara

L'Oreal Paris Telescopic Explosion Carbon Black Mascara

It does a good job separating your lashes

I was pretty surprised at the results I got when I used this product. I have used many mascaras from super expensive to drugstore ones and this is one of the few I've used that actually separates my lashes. I'm sure it's due to the round shaped bristle brush this product comes with. It also does a good job getting at the shorter lash hairs that are often missed by regular mascara brushes. The product comes with a long wand in a sleek, red container. I have the color "Black" and it's a good black in that it really makes my hazel eyes pop with the contrast of the mascara. I'm sure the color "Blackest Black" would be even better but I haven't tried that one yet. This is also one of the few mascaras that didn't cause my eyes to itch after a few hours. As far as length of wear, it lasted all day, from morning until the time I took it off at night. My only gripe with this mascara is that out of the container, it comes out real thick and the first time I used it, it caused some of my lash hairs to clump. It's best to use a little at a time and build to the desired coverage but the formula doesn't dry as fast as some mascaras I've used so it gives you more time to brush out the clumps. All in all, a good drugstore product. I would even go as far to say it outperformed some of my more expensive mascaras.

  • Shiseido The Makeup Accentuating Color Stick

Can be used for cheeks, lips and eye shadow at the same time. Great for days when you're pinched for time but want a flush of sheer color to liven up your face. This is one product I constantly reach for in the morning when I'm running late but don't want to look like I just rolled out of bed as I can put it on my cheeks and use it as an eyeshadow at the same time without taking too much of my time. I don't know how it wears as a lip color as I haven't worn it on my lips. Consistency is creamy and super easy to blend. I just use my fingers to blend the product well. The finish is semi-sheer but can be built upon for more intense color that lasts almost all day. The only complaint I have is the price. It's quite expensive but the product lasts a long time.

  • MAC Zoom Fast Black Lash Mascara

MAC Zoom Fast Black Lash Mascara

    How should I put this.....

I have a love-hate relationship with this mascara so I'm going to break it down to pros and cons. First the pros: it makes my already long lashes even longer. No kidding, it actually adds length. The black color is a good black. Maybe not "the" blackest of all mascaras in the market but it's pretty up there. Upon application, my hazel eyes instantly stand out and seem much lighter than it really is. The cons: Although this mascara gives length, it tends to group my lashes into sections giving it the spider legs look I hate so much. My lashes are already thick to begin with but when I have this on, it actually ends up looking thinner because of the grouping that happens to it. I would prefer for a mascara to have better separation of lashes but this doesn't accomplish that in the least bit, no matter how little amount I apply. Additionally, it tends to clump if there is too much product on the wand. It's also pretty heavy and tends to straighten out the curl in my lashes. I hesitate to wear this during day time because it can look dramatic but not necessarily in a good way. I much prefer MAC's Pro Lash during daytime because of its lighter and non clumping consistency so the Zoom Lash has taken a backseat to it.

    Bare Escentuals Beautifully Luminous Lashes

Not really my kind of thing

I bought the one in Bronze as I wanted to try it for fun. Can't really say it's my type. The idea is to put this on top of your existing mascara or by itself (tried it both ways) to give you a glistening effect to your lashes. I wanted to use it when going out at night ONLY, as I don't like wearing glittery stuff in the morning. Suffice it to say, the glitter was too subtle I really didn't see the point to it. The only time you can really see the glistening effect is if you're looking real close. I guess it's my fault for expecting more.

  • Dr. Hauschka Volume Mascara

I would describe this product as an "everyday" type mascara because the formula isn't so thick and heavy that you end up looking like a club act. The consistency is medium and gives the lashes enough coverage to still look defined but not overbearing. I do have a major gripe about it and that is it doesn't dry as fast as other mascaras I have used. The first couple of times I used it, I ended up getting some smudges on the upper and lower eyelid. Usually, other mascaras would be dry by then, but not this one. It also tends to melt during the entire time I had it on so by the end of the day, most of it were on my lower lashes and underneath them. Bottom line: if you're going for the false lashes look and don't have the time nor patience to wait for the mascara to dry completely, this is not the product for you.

    Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

    Mild enough for sensitive skin

This exfoliant is one of the mildest ones I've used. So much so that I use it almost everyday because it doesn't leave my sensitive skin raw, irritated, red and sore. This product is gentle, yet effective. I use it primarily to slough off some rough patches I get around the mouth and chin areas. It leaves my skin smooth yet non-irritated. The performance of this product makes the price well worth it.

    Avon Satin Deluxe Eyeshadow Duo

Pretty good eyeshadow for the price

I have the exact same color as the one pictured above and this color combo compliments my hazel eyes very well. This product initially appealed to me because you get two "no brainer" coordinated colors in one pan which takes the guess work out of deciding what colors to wear with what. Although the color pay-off isn't as intense as other more expensive brands like UD and MAC, it's decent enough to wear for daytime without looking garish and clown-like. Of course if you apply a good primer undearneath such as UDPP, it makes the colors pop out a bit more and last longer. With primer on, I can easily get 7 hrs of wear with this color. Not too shabby at all. The portable, 2 in 1 container it comes with can be placed in your purse to take anywhere.

    MAC Prep + Prime Eye

    Disappointed with it

I should've listened to the MAC MA when she told me not to get this primer because the performance wasn't so good. BUT, I was just being stubborn and wanted to see for myself. Well, she was right. I have somewhat oily lids and this primer made my eye shadows crease by the end of the day which doesn't happen with other primers I've used. It also didn't keep my eye shadows from fading and didn't make them wear longer. I love MAC products but this one was a disappointment like the MA told me. I'll stick to my UDPP.

  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow

    Urban Decay Eyeshadow

    Pretty and fun colors

I own 4 of Urban Decay's eyeshadows. One is Chopper (glitter/shimmer), the others are Illegal, Chronic and Shakedown (matte). Since Chopper is the most recent UD item I acquired, this review will be based on that. Chopper looks like a medium glittery taupe-brown in the container. On my NC35 skin, the eyeshadow looks like a medium shimmery, peachy-pink taupe.. This is the ONLY glittery eyeshadow I own as I'm not big on anything with glitter in them but...I found this color interesting so I picked it up. A great "all over the lid" color or as a base for other, more intense shadows though I prefer to wear this at night when going out to dinner with the hubby to brighten and add sparkle to the eye area. I tried using it as a highlighter but on me, the color is a bit too dark for that and didn't really bring out my brow bone. Someone with a darker skin tone than myself might be able to pull it off though. The glitter is actually not bad. I thought it was going to be too much but it's micro-glitter, not big shiny flakes of it. The micro glitter does tend to get almost everywhere on my face upon application, including corners of eyes and some on cheeks. I just take my powder brush and brush them off. I'm going to try the other colors UD has to offer as I really like their consistency and color pay-off.
