    Noevir Moisture Lip

Packaging is cheap, product is too expensive, very drying!

I am a self-admitted lip balm addict. Always on the hunt for a balm to keep my lips from being dry, flaky, and cracked. I’m not a fan of high-gloss conditioners nor the ones that create a waxy coating on your lips. In honor of my addiction, I tested out the Noevir Lip Conditioner. The packaging is metallic gold and a bit “older” looking. The balm itself applies well and sinks in quickly. I thought it did a good job at first, but after repeated use (3-4 days) my lips became super dry and began cracking in the corners. This balm certainly was not up my alley. I’m sure it works for some, just not me. It’s quite pricey at $11 a tube, when Chapstick or other “over-the-counter” brands can be purchased for under four dollars.

John Varvatos Eau de Parfum Spray

Cute bottle, nice layers of scent

Every gal likes to smell good, right? So I’m here with a suggestion for your next “special night out” perfume; or parfume as the fancy-schmancy types say it. John Varvatos’ fragrance. It’s packaged in a very sleek light pink orb that looks just perfect sitting in my retro sixties bathroom (yep, it’s pink too…). I will admit, I wasn’t an immediate fan of this fragrance, but once I wore it and it warmed onto my skin I started to enjoy it. It’s certainly not for everyday (due to price and it smells a bit too fancy for prancing around dusting the house); but I like it for date nights with Bionic Hubby. Is it for you? Hmmm… hard to tell since our preferences are all so unique. So I’m going to run through the scent layers to better help you decide if this is something you’d be interested in. Introductory Scents: Coriander flower, Georgian apricot, Damascus plum, Golden mandarin from Sicily, Aromatic Grappa “Di Nebbiolo” accord. Background Scents: Tolu balsam, Adriatic oakmoss, Styrax from Laos, Patchouli extra pure, Wild honey from Spain, Tonka beans from Venezuela, Hibiscus seeds from Ecuador.

  • Jane Be Pure Mineral Gel Eyeliner

Jane Be Pure Mineral Gel Eyeliner

Easy to use, stays put, GREAT COLOR!

Some days it seems that every woman and their mother is a fan of MAC’s Fluidline and similar liquid and gel eyeliners. And with the current retro/sixties eyeliner trend, more of us are branching out. But the budget-girl in me refuses to pay a small fortune for an eyeliner. I picked up two of Jane’s Be Pure Mineral Gel Eyeliners at Walgreens (look for them at other local drugstores and retailers like Target and Walmart). Due to a special sale, I lucked out and got Buy One, Get One Free. Even without the sale, these eyeliners sell for around $5-6 and the pot will last you forever!! Due to the lovely price, I figured “Hey, I can’t expect too much”. What a nice surprise! These liners last all day, don’t smudge, don’t wander and make lining soooo simple! There are 4 colors: Wine, Dark Brown, Black and Navy. Each eyeliner pot comes packaged with a pretty nice angled lining brush (which is the first “comes with” brush that I have really enjoyed using). I love using them for retro looks, cat eyes, a first layer to a “smoky eye” look, or just a single upper lid line for a pop of color and an easy look. Can’t wait to pick up the Navy and Black versions! These gel eyeliners are certainly a Bionic Buy!

  • AG Hair Cosmetics Colour Savour Colour Protection Conditioner
    10.0

AG Hair Cosmetics Colour Savour Colour Protection Conditioner

Another winner from AG Hair Cosmetics!

I’ve dedicated my locks to science. Well, not quite, but I did test another hair care line. AG Hair Cosmetics is a high quality, salon line with styling products, shampoos, conditioners, treatments. Everything you need to feed and care for your hair. Since I’m a color-treated girl, I’m reviewing the Color Savour Shampoo and Conditioner. The shampoo is Sulfate-free, but produces incredible foam. It’s lightly scented, not floral, not fruity, but clean. The shampoo rinses easily. I followed with the creamy conditioner on hair ends only (since I’m a bit oiler in the humid summer months). I usually let conditioner set for 2 minutes while I was my face. The conditioner rinsed quickly and removed the shower tangles. Next day report: My hair was manageable and it actually didn’t get all bendy on me. Translation- I didn’t end up with portions of my hair “bent” and other portions straight. All my tresses were straight and normal with a TON of bounce! My scalp was clean, no buildup. I really loved this AG line. Two Week Report: The Color Savour certainly seemed to help hold my color longer even though I’ve been in the pool, and working in the garden. I’m hooked. Other Products from AG I Adore: BigWigg is a spray in volumizer. I use it before blow drying and it gives my fine hair a big oomph in the volume department without stickiness or stiffness. And Spray Varnish is a splendid high-shine treatment. Just 3 sprays around my head and my hair glows!

  • Curel Ultra Healing Moisture Lotion

    Curel Ultra Healing Moisture Lotion

Perfect way to resolve your dry winter hands!

In the dry winter, hand lotion is a must. And one that performs is like finding a needle in a haystack (and just as rough on one’s hands). The Ultra Healing lotion applied nicely. Creamy and soaked in rather quickly. I started using this lotion after my hands had become cold, cracked and chapped (after the December ice storm) and it healed them up in a few days. The scent is mild, nothing extraordinary, which is actually nice for a change. I don’t think we always need to have our hands smelling like the local florist. Great buy and I will certainly repurchase, especially when my hands need an extra bit of attention.

  • L'Oreal Studio Line Smoothness Glossing Cream

L'Oreal Studio Line Smoothness Glossing Cream

Great scent, lovely in hand, didn't reduce flyaways though

I love finding good quality hair products at the drugstore. It's fun to pick up some new bargains, and even better when you find a gem. The L'Oreal Studio Smoothness Smoothing Cream Glossing Cream (that name is a bit redundant, right? It's not just me, is it?) is not really a gem. I had high hopes for this product since I adore styling creams. They typically are light weight and keep humidity out while taming flyaways gently. And they seem to work for numerous hair types. For the record, my hair type is mostly straight, fine, slightly dry, and chin length. I used this styling cream after a fresh shampoo and condition. Then blow dried gently. My hair flew everywhere. I had knots, tangles, and frizzies. Normally I have some flyaways, but I looked like I had stuck my finger in an electrical socket. Great for Halloween... not so good for a normal day. I did LOVE the scent though, but not enough to use it again. It certainly make work for some but for me? Nope.

  • Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask
    5.0

Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask

Liquid O2 is hype, relaxing mask though

One of the Bliss Spa favorite masks is now packaged for at-home treatment. Since The energizing mask is uniquely packaged in a super-sanitary pump bottle. LOVE that! It always makes me cringe a little inside when I go digging into my tubs of masks. I mean, I always wash my hands first... but still. The hand bacteria, oils, ok. Anyhow. I love the pump idea. This mask boasts vitamin C, fluidO2 (liquid oxygen? Is that chemically possible???), NaPCA (Sodium PCA... no sure what the PCA is), EUK-134 free-radical resisters (one of Bliss' trademark ingredients). Vitamin C is great for brightening your skin, and the EUK-134 is probably something that will help shield your skin from pollution and damaging particles which is good. But I'm truly hesitant to believe that your skin can absorb liquified oxygen. In any case, the mask was very pleasant and relaxing. Bliss tells you to massage it onto your damp skin, wait 5 minutes until frothy and then rinse. So it's quick too, and it did rinse easily. You can use it up to 3 times a week. While I enjoyed the mask on my skin, I didn't really notice any substantial benefits and I have to pass it to a friend since it contains a huge amount of glycerin (which causes me to break out, grrr). So sensitive types, please beware. All in all, it's a nice mask: a bit pricey, I adore the packaging, but I'm not sold on the hype.

  • Broadway Nails Real Life
    10.0

    Broadway Nails Real Life

Lovely product, nice length, good to your nails

Real life artificial nails... an oxymoron, you say? Well, yes, sort of. Broadway Nails have these new "real short" length glue-on faux nails. The length is perfect if you want a fast manicure but really hate having nails that get in your way. The length just peeks over the tip of your finger. I've had artificial nails on before (acrylics, gels, press-ons, you name it) and my big draw back is the inability to scratch an itch and open a Coke can myself. And then there's the whole thing when you have them removed, your real nail surface underneath can be destroyed. These Broadway Nails have been my favorite when I get that longing for artificial nails. They apply quickly and easily (so don't panic if you've never done it before), and they remove cleanly without damaging your nail bed. A normal pack has 24 nails in 10 sizes so pretty much everyone is covered. There are shades to pick from which include pink, nude, beige, and peach. Broadway states you'll get 10 days of wear. My personal results are anywhere from 7 days (if I'm gardening and remodeling the house with them on) to 14 days if I'm careful. In either case, they satisfy my urge for pretty hands without all the hassle, time and money of going to the salon for a full-set and then having them removed when I'm sick of them.

  • DDF Protect and Correct

    DDF Protect and Correct

Not one for oily skinned gals

DDF is famed for their high-end and effective skincare offerings. Total Beauty gave me the chance to test out the new DDF Protect and Correct UV Moisturizer SPF 15 face lotion. Personally, I have never shelled out the cash for a DDF product before but have heard wonderful reviews from friends, family members and fellow bloggers. This face lotion packs a fantastic range of UVA and UVB sun protection making it a very wise choice for daily use. And it promises to prevent future hyperpigmentation (sun damage is a common cause of skin discoloration), even your skin tone and correct the look of current discolorations. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I didn't notice any improvement in my melasma or skin tone issues on my face. (Darn it... I was really hopeful this would help.) It did protect my skin very well, applied easily, and stayed in place through the day without any extra greasiness or slipperiness. The scent is minimal and pleasant. Sadly, I broke out in tiny red pimples/bumps across my face. I believe this is due to the strong concentrations of alcohol, glycerin and other oils. If you have breakout prone skin, oily or combination skin, this certainly isn't the best choice for you due to it already containing oils. I would also caution you in the claims of it's ability to correct pigmentation issues.
