    Boots No7 Maximum Volume Mascara

Ok for natural, slightly darker lashes, but doesn't add volume

The review: A few weeks back, I had a hard time locating my favorite mascara, so I picked up a quick replacement at Target. I chose the Boots No. 7 Volumizing Mascara in black. As with all Boots products, the packaging was sleek and super cute. The applicator was sturdy. The mascara applied clump free, however the brush was prickly on my eyelids (the irritation made my lids a bit puffy the next day). After checking my reflection, I failed to see the volumizing action. It looked more like a lash tint than a mascara. It wore truly well- I was happy with the lack of smudges and flakes. All in all, a good product for day time wear or in situations where you want low-impact eyes (the gym, beach, etc.). Be a little careful with the brush if you have sensitive eyes. Personally, I will not rebuy since I want my mascara to add drama, darkness, length and volume.

  • Lancome Color Design Blush

    Lancome Color Design Blush

LOVE these blushes. Every color is amazing!

I have long loved cream blushes. They are versatile, super blendable, and wear incredibly well. They also tend not to look “fake” or cakey on your cheeks. After all, if you wear blush, you are looking for color, a super-stack of pancake makeup. Lancome’s newest offering is Color Design Blush. Pretty pots of cream blushes that are really quite addicting. Since I’ve tried Freeze Frame (a light pinky-bronze shimmer) three weeks ago, I haven’t left the house without it! The color is absolutely amazing. Makes me look all pretty and dewy! I am also fond of the Retro Rouge (a rich matte red) and Chic Cassis (a dark mocha berry) for evenings or parties. I’ve had no adverse reactions on my (very) sensitive skin while using these blushes. Just be careful to apply a little, blend, then if you want more color, add a little more on top. I’ve been wearing the Freeze Frame on the front circles of my cheeks and blending it outward in all directions. It makes for a much fresher look that the old way of blending up and into your temples/hairline. Lancome’s cream blushes are available in seven shades from light neutrals (Model Mocha and Creme Couture), Pinks and Berries (Petticoat Pink, Pret a Plum, and Chic Cassis) to Reds and Corals (Freeze Frame and Retro Rouge). The pigments are saturated and you only need to apply a teensy bit. So, even though they seem a tad pricey initially, the little pots will last you 6 months or longer!

  • Three Custom Color Specialists Lip Liner

Three Custom Color Specialists Lip Liner

Excellent formula- long lasting and great colors!

Three Custom Color makes superb lip liners that I find double as lip color. The colors are not sheer, which makes it easy to fill in your lips with gorgeous color. I apply lip balm just before starting my other makeup application, and by the time I get to my lips, they are soft and ready for the liner. Top it with a gloss if you’d like shine, or leave it as is for a matte fall look. Great color choice, suits most of the lip colors already in your makeup case, lovely formula that isn't drying! So nicely long-lasting and it doesn't clump.

Three Custom Color Specialists Lip Gloss Wands

Gorgeous color, long-wearing, non-sticky. THE BEST!

I adore Three Custom’s Doubles lip gloss (created for Sophia Coppola). Doubles is a sheer burgundy brown that is lovely by itself and overtop lip liners or other lip colors. The formula is just amazing! It’s not sticky, doesn’t wander and there’s no icky scent.

  • Nars Duo Eyeshadow

    Nars Duo Eyeshadow

    Nice colors, bit pricey

NARS eyeshadows (I used a Duo called Brazil… photograph to the right). The shadows are highly pigmented and press right into place without the under-eye fallout that’s common with some brands. I love how they blend easily and apply evenly (don’t you *hate* when shadows seem to clump up the color on your lids? Even if you try to blend them out? Ugh.) They are a bit pricey, so you might look for dupes to recreate this look if your budget is limited.

  • Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Power-Cream Wash

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Power-Cream Wash

Beads are irritating, be careful to wear SPF after use

I tried a sample of Neutrogena’s Acne Stress Control “Power-Clear Scrub” while I was mid-breakout. The scrub is basically a cream cleanser with tiny round blue microbeads to help exfoliate your skin. This face wash contains 2 percent Salicylic Acid to assist in clearing your skin and preventing further breakouts. I didn’t experience any drying effects or redness, but I also didn’t experience my skin clearing up. The beads were also pretty darn stubborn to rinse off- getting caught on my skin and in my hairline. I probably would have liked the plain cream cleanser more from this line since my sensitive skin does not usually react well to “microbead” style exfoliators. One further note, this facial wash contains AHAs (Alpha-Hydroxy Acids), so be extra vigilant about applying sunscreen while using this scrub. AHAs cause your skin to be more photosensitive meaning you could burn more easily. Yet another reason to faux-glow.

    Nubar Classic Collection Nail Lacquers

Good color payoff, a bit thick, but lasts forever

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, (you all know I’m trying to spread the word far and wide if you’re a regular reader of Bionic Beauty) I have painted my toesies in a pink ribbon fashion! The pedicure itself is very simple… just 2 coats of Nubar’s Oh Baby Pink. Then on my big toe, I used a dark pink (this one is by OPI “Pompeii Purple”) to create the ribbon. It would also look gorgeous with a white ribbon! Or white nails and a pink ribbon. The Nubar polish lasted a full 2 weeks on my toes without chipping or flaking. It was a little hard to apply and probably could've benefited from a few drops of thinner. My bottle may have been "off" consistency wise. But I still love the color. Very opaque, only needed 2 coats for bottle color, no cuticle drag, no shrinking.

Origins Peace of Mind On-the-spot Relief

    Great scents to relax by!

I’ve tried the “imitators” of this original product, and I can honestly say, they don’t hold up. If you’re a high-strung type (like me) or just have trouble relaxing occasionally, Peace of Mind will rock for you! I dab behind my ears, pulse points, and even temples when I have a migraine. Like they say… relief!

  • White Sands Porosity the Fix
    10.0

    White Sands Porosity the Fix

Fab for restoring hair, adding shine!

White Sand’s has a product they term “makeup for hair” which is Porosity the Fix. Think of it as a “concealer” for your hair. If you damage your hair, and you’re working on fixing that damage (say with deep conditioners, trims, growth), Porosity helps make your health appear healthy in the meantime. I spray a 3-4 mists around my hair after rinsing out my hair color (whether it’s bleach, permanent dye, vegetable hair dye, etc) then dry normally. Or if my hair is dry and I’ll be using a curling iron or flat iron, I spray a bit of Porosity on my brush and run it through my hair before ironing. It really helps the cuticle lay flat and prevent flyaways. Be very careful not to spray too much as this product contains oils. It *will* make your hair flat and icky if you overdo it. Like I said, 3-4 sprays should do fine for mid-length hair. If you color or highlight your hair at home, I’ve also had excellent results by adding 2 sprays of Porosity into my color mixture. My color lasts longer, penetrates better and my hair comes out smoother & shinier immediately after coloring. Overall, I adore my bottle of Porosity. It is a professional product, but worth the money. Bionic will definitely be repurchasing!!

  • White Sands ER Fusion Emergency Reconstructive Treatment

I use the White Sands ER Fusion after each time I color or bleach my hair. Plus once every week (in drier winters) or every other week (in the summer). This product keeps my hair healthy and even after bleaching it gets my hair right back into shape. Leaving it soft, shiny and bouncy. I have fine hair and it certainly doesn't weight it down one bit. I highly recommend this product if you have damaged hair, need some extra moisture, or are possibly a bit rough on your hair (like me).
