    Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Shampoo

Great scent but left me with flyaways

I LOVE the scent on this shampoo! That was the first thing I noticed in the shower. And the shampoo is super creamy- almost like a body butter type of product. It contains buriti oil, palm conditioners, ylang ylang and pomegranate. You don't need much to get a good lather, so err on the side of too little until you figure out how much you need for your particular hair (especially since this is on the pricey side). My hair was certainly nicely moisturized after use. I still felt the need to use a conditioner, but it was no where near as dry as normal. After air drying my hair had a lot of bounce, but also quite a few bends, kinks, and flyaways. So while I enjoyed the moisturizing properties and scent, I'm not in love with the results of this shampoo.

  • L'Oreal Paris Infallible Advanced Never Fail Makeup

On a whim, Bionic tried the newish L’Oreal Infallible Never Fail Makeup foundation. Looking for something that stay a bit more “put” during the sweltering summer months, this looked like it would fit the bill… The pump function is nice and sanitary. And the color choices are not too bad (aided by in-store swatches to hold up to your wrist. Price is a reasonable. A rather large bonus is the SPF 18 protection, super for summer! With packaging promises of 16 hour coverage that resists “fatigue”, Bionic was excited to give this product a go. Sadly, it didn’t quite live up to expectations. Coverage was good, but very thick and hard to blend properly, it felt extremely heavy on the skin. The makeup did stay present on testers faces, but there was also a large amount of transfer onto hats (ick!) and sunglasses (double ick!). In summary, not the best foundation of the drugstore offerings, but if you like or need full-coverage this may be an option for you.

  • Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm
    9.0

    Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm

    Lovely tingling, nice moisture

Let me just start with- I love this lip balm! It glides on smoothly (although I do get the unusual tube that feels a bit “grainy”), tingles gently on your lips, and really moisturizers through a hot summer or a windy, dry winter. Here is a run down of the ingredients: Beeswax, coconut oil, sunflower oil, tocopheryl acetate and tocopheryl, lanolin, peppermint oil, comfrey root extract, rosemary extract. As an additional bonus: the tube itself is made of over 50% recycled plastic (so be sure to re-recycle the tube when you finish!). I first discovered this lip balm about 8 years ago during a road trip stop at Cracker Barrel. For a long time, that was the only place (besides online) to find the Burt’s Bees line. Now, the line is much more accessible and can be found at your local drugstore, Target, and some grocery organic sections. The tube is my preference, since the tin’s consistency is not as smooth, a bit messier, and in my opinion, not as sanitary. Cons: This version does not have color (if you are looking for tint, try their tinted variety) and does not contain SPF. You can buy the Lifeguard’s version that does contain SPF.

    L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara

Flakes & smudges were there by end of day

L’Oreal’s Voluminous did heftily inflate my lashes, but by the day’s end I had a few flakes, and smudgies. (This one might be great if you live in a drier climate.)

    CoverGirl Fantastic Lash Waterproof Mascara

    Great waterproof mascara. My favorite!

I don't wear waterproof mascara too often, so I don't want to go spending a ton of money on something I only wear once a month. Really, I only apply waterproof mascara when heading to the beach or pool. Otherwise, it's just so much simpler to find a great standard mascara for daily wear. This is MY FAVE waterproof mascara. No smudging, clumps, and it stays put. I wish it would give me a bit more length, but like I said- I really only wear it to the pool & beach and it's certainly not a fashion show. ;)

    CoverGirl Fantastic Lash Mascara

Ok, but did smudge in humidity

performed well, but did smudge. I have since rebought this in the waterproof formula for summer days at the lake and pool and it is *Fantastic*! Granted, I DO live in a very humid climate (Florida) but to me, a mascara should perform well no matter where you live.

Maybelline New York Great Lash Waterproof Mascara

Caused my eyes to develop blood spots & swelling

Caused an eye reaction on my second day using it. Needless to say, I had to chuck it. Sad, since I loved this mascara growing up.

  • Sonia Kashuk Lip and Cheek Tint - Sheer Bliss 05

Sonia Kashuk Lip and Cheek Tint - Sheer Bliss 05

Perfect, affordable alternative to pricier stains

Sonia Kashuk’s Lip Stain is available only at Target stores or at Target online for about 8 bucks. This stain is really a bargain! It only comes in one color which seems unfortunate, but it goes on nice and sheer to start and you can layer it up for bolder color. Don’t be scared by the color in the dispenser, it’s not that bright once on. The stain is a bit more liquid than the Revlon stain, but this also allows you to save room in your makeup bag by doubling the stain as a cheek color. Packaging is nice and the product goes on smoothly (again, do not apply balm before the stain or it will inhibit the stain for absorbing into your lips).

  • L'Oreal Paris Infallible Never Fail Concealer
    7.0

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Never Fail Concealer

Nice consistency, hides imperfections very well

After a trial of L’Oreal’s Infallible foundation failed to shine, I went into trying this concealer with a different outlook. However, this concealer actually is very functional! Packaging is a twist-up stick type foundation which can be applied direct from the stick, with a brush or finger tips. It has a nice, smooth texture and applied evenly. The retail price is a relative bargain considering the department store concealer prices. With daily application under the eyes, this tube will probably last 4-6 months. It worked well to cover skin imperfections when applied direct from the tube and then blended out with fingers. Be sure to set with powder or you will end up with creases. Good buy!

  • Sally Hansen Lip Inflation Plumping Treatment

Sally Hansen’s Lip Inflation plumping treatment is meant to remind us of the more famous name brands (such as Lip Venom and LipFusion). The packaging looks similar to the big boys, however after a week of two tubes lying in a makeup case, they leaked everywhere. The “gold” finish on the handle began wearing off immediately. Not big complaints, but they are worth noting. The tingling was not extreme, actually it was quite pleasant. Smooch partners did not have their lips lit on fire, either (which is always a bonus). Application is via a small brush (similar to a nail polish brush). The lip gloss is quite sticky, texture is overwhelmingly fluid, and the scent is fruity. Thankfully, the gloss did wear off quickly. Don’t waste your money on the “tinted” versions as they all apply clear. The lip treatment did seem to plump up fine lines in lips a small amount, and the extreme shine took focus away from fine lines. Overall, Bionic felt this lip plumper fell limp.
