    Lush Bath Bombs

    Relaxing, yet messy

You may think I’m crazy (but then again, maybe not) but I have never used a “bath bomb” before. My virgin bomb experience was by Lush - the Honey Bee Bath Ballistic. A gorgeous blend of flowery honey and sugary sweets. I ran my warm bath, popped in the bomb and watched it fizz like mad. Quite amusing to watch. :) Anyhow, back to the review. My bath water was scented perfectly- I always know when there’s too much perfumesince I start sneezing my head off. After soaking, I didn’t feel it really moisturized my skin, but that’s not what I was seeking anyhow. I just wanted to relax. It fulfilled that duty perfectly. I will note that the bomb does leave your tub gritty after use, so you’ll have to ruin your relaxation with a tub cleaning.

  • Nars The Multiple
    9.0

    Nars The Multiple

Pricey but a little goes a long way. Love the all-over color versatility!

The Multiple is billed as all-over face color for all skin tones. After my trials, I believe this product would work best on fair, light and medium skin tones (I’m light skinned for what its worth). The color is in stick form, and twists up. I absolutely love the packaging! Luxurious and strong- it doesn’t feel like it’ll break if I drop it on my bathroom counter. The color is a peachy-pink with subtle gold shimmer. This is an extremely buildable color, so start with a little, then blend. Add a little more if you desire. I’ve used this blush on my cheeks (of course), a little on my chin (to beat those winter blahs) and even a light sweep on my eyelids for a quick monochromatic look for daytime. In summary, this is a good staple for your makeup case. It’s a little pricey, but I’ve hardly used any of the stick at all (after a month of use). A small application really provides a nice glow to your cheeks. The color does not seem to “gather” or clump on my face, it settles nicely and wears well through the day. I apply it directly over my foundation and then a light dust of translucent powder to set it in place.

Bath & Body Works Superfill Extreme Plump Tinted Lip Gloss

No plumping action seen. Nice shine though!

Not so plump….. Superfill Lip Plumper. It’s $12 from Bath & Body Works. Save your money unless you just want the tingly burn sensation. Lips stayed the same…..

  • Lush Shower Gels
    5.0

    Lush Shower Gels

Overpowering scent, sudsing action was good. Not sure of the "claims".

One of the more popular body and shower gels from Lush Cosmetics, Flying Fox is a blend of herbals, honey and jasmine to calm you, ignite “desire” (giggle), and is supposed to help with PMS. A little goes a quite a long way with this body wash and it foams up quickly. The scent is syrupy and thick and is more pleasant on your skin after the shower than during. I found it a bit overwhelming while swimming in the scent during a steamy shower. The gel’s formula did not react with my skin or cause any breakouts. However, I cannot really attest to the claims of PMS assistance (and my hubby didn’t care for the scent too much so it didn’t attract him. ;) ).

  • St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub
    1.0

St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub

Harsh, caused terrible reaction, scratches face.

The Apricot facial scrub by St. Ives has many fans, however I cannot count myself as one of them. I have tried this scrub three times over the past six years. Every time I hope to like this drugstore find but end up pitching it (any suggestions for left over facial scrub?) or using it on my hands or winter feet. The apricot seeds are large and excessively rough on my skin. Something in the formula causes my semi-sensitive skin to breakout massively. Even after a thorough rinse with water, I end up with large scabs in my eyebrows (ick) that develop within two days and then the hair in my eyebrows falls out in those patches (double ICK!) Hopefully this time, I have finally learned my lesson not to try this face scrub again. I ended up using up the product as a foot scrub.

  • California Baby Everyday Lotion
    10.0

    California Baby Everyday Lotion

Perfect everyday lotion. Sturdy packaging, natural ingredients!

Yummy! Really delivered in the moisture department. The lotion is a bit thinner (of course) than the cream. The lotion was outstanding on my arms, hands, and even my face! This lotion is from California Baby’s aromatherapy line and contain french lavender (you can also get unscented products). As a bonus, the product contains no nut oils, gluten, soy, oat or dairy products. Its also thankfully lacking in parabens, sodium benzoate, benzoic acid, benzyl alcohol (incredibly drying) or phenoxyethanols. With all these baddies out, this lotion can be used safely by pregnant women and would be beneficial for those suffering from eczema. The packaging is cutesy, yet subtle and very sturdy. I dropped the lotion on my floor to test it (since I am a self-confessed klutz) and it didn't break. Pricing is actually affordable for this line (which is often where organic or natural-type skin care falls out of most of our ranges). The scents are perfect for me- the smell very natural and the french lavender comes through.

  • California Baby Calming Botanical Moisturizing Cream
    10.0

California Baby Calming Botanical Moisturizing Cream

Fantastic moisturizing cream with a light scent! LOVE it!

California Baby was founded by Los Angeles resident Jessica Iclisoy out of her desire to provide “cleaner” and more organic skin care items for babies, kids, and adults. All the products are geared to those with sensitive skin (or those of us who want to treat our skin sensitively). The products range from SPF sunscreens, bug repellents, bath washes and shampoos, to lotions and creams. There really is something for all of us! None of the products are tested on animals (woo hoo!) and contain organic and/or sustainable ingredients. I tested out the Calming Botanical Moisturizing Cream. Really delivered in the moisture department. I found the cream handy on my hands (hee), my elbows, knees, feet and lips (wow!). It settled into my skin quickly, did not leave me greasy and moisturized immediately. The cream is from California Baby’s aromatherapy line and contain french lavender (you can also get unscented products). As a bonus, the product contains nut oils, gluten, soy, oat or dairy products. Its also thankfully lacking in parabens, sodium benzoate, benzoic acid, benzyl alcohol (incredibly drying) or phenoxyethanols. With all these baddies out, this cream can be used safely by pregnant women and would be beneficial for those suffering from eczema. The packaging is cutesy, yet subtle and very sturdy. I dropped my tub of cream on my floor to test it (since I am a self-confessed klutz) and it didn't break. Pricing is actually affordable for this line (which is often where organic or natural-type skin care falls out of most of our ranges). The scents are perfect for me- the smell very natural and the french lavender comes through.

  • Lush Bubble Bars
    6.0

    Lush Bubble Bars

Good bubbles, made the tub a mess.

Bubble baths are FUN! And they are even more fun, and not to mention luxurious with Lush’s Bubble Bar. I tested out the “flavor” Ma Bar. Lush’s description is thus: “If chocolate is your pleasure, you’ll love bathing in the toffee and orange of Ma Bar. Brown sugar-topped for the ultimate in blissful bathing, this bar’s sweetness will satisfy every pore on your body.” The scent is heavenly and actually pretty darn close to their Honey I Washed the Kids soap. Crumble the bar under your running bath water. The water felt softer and the bubbles were long lasting. I will warn you… the bath water turns pretty murky from the ingredients in the bubble bar. I would recommend slicing your bar in half. This will save you a bit of money and should still give you plenty of bubbles. I used half a bar in a giant spa-type tub and the bubbles were piled up. Adjust accordingly. All in all, a nice treat for a relaxing bath.

  • Lancome Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover
    9.0

Lancome Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover

Love this stuff! Zaps away my makeup with ease!

In all honesty, most eye makeup removers do their job sufficiently well. Heck, I never bothered with eye makeup remover until recently. I just used my normal facial cleanser, twice, to ensure I got all the goop off. With those facts in mind, we will look beyond the “Does it remove makeup? Yes or No.” in this review. Lancome’s Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover is packaged in a clear blue plastic bottle with a twist on (and leak-proof top). The dispenser is a small hole that you can dab the product onto a cotton ball/pad for application. The small hole keeps even a klutz like me from dumping too much remover or spilling it across my bathroom counter. Shake Bi-Facil well before application. Get some on the cotton pad and then swipe onto your eye makeup. I found it removes my eye makeup pretty well, and most important- gently. There was no drying action and no pulling on sensitive eye skin. I found best results with one cotton pad for each eye, a few swipes (don’t scrub, ladies), and then leave the remnants of the product on your eye. Wash the Bi-Facil left-overs off during your normal face wash. Ta-da, eye makeup removed! If you’ve done a smokey eye, or have quite a bit of eye makeup on that day, you may need a second pad, but I found this to be the exception and the Bi-Facil remover even removed my CoverGirl waterproof mascara easily.

  • Astara Blue Flame Purification Mask
    10.0

    Astara Blue Flame Purification Mask

Great ingredients, soothing, and it actually does what it says!

Cosmetic breakouts? Adult acne? Darn little cysts under your skin that feel so painful they make half your face hurt? Yep. Count me in. In a desperate situation, I whipped out Astara’s Blue Flame Purification Mask. It’s loaded with Tea Tree Oil and other gentle, but good-for-your-skin ingredients. The face mask is gentle enough for me to use (on my very sensitive skin) two to three times a week when I am in a breakout cycle. And unlike other treatments, this did not dry out my skin or cause irritation. My pimples dried out and began the healing process. I did not care for the brush that came packaged with my mask, it was rough on my skin. However, once I switched to applying with my fingers (which is fun!), I was fine. I leave the Blue Flame mask on my face for 20-25 minutes. It rinses easily with water. I also use the mask as a night-time spot treatment on problems areas or under-the-skin eruptions. When I wake up, I just rinse it off. This mask is potent, but gentle, and I after use, I can highly recommend it.
