    Sexy Hair SoyMilk Conditioner

    Lovely light conditioner, smells yummy

Color safe: Check. Sulfate-free: Check. Adorable “milk-chug” looking packaging: Yep. In my search for quality products that contain a few less chemicals than their typical counterparts, I wanted to give a sulfate-free shampoo a try. I picked up the Healthy Sexy Hair Chocolate Soymilk Shampoo and regular Soymilk Conditioner set from my local Beauty First store. The shampoo comes in either regular or Chocolate variety. I choose the chocolate, because, well, I liked the scent. It smells like a milk shake! The shampoo actually had a ton of sudsing action for a sulfate-free product. Very impressive. The conditioner worked well, but may be a little heavy if you have normal to oily hair. I was left with manageable, moisturized and lightly scented hair. The chocolate sweet smell did fade pretty quick- so if it’s not your favorite, you shouldn’t notice it after a few hours. As I mentioned above, I loved the packaging and being square, they were easy to grip in the shower. The flip-top caps were a tad difficult to open with slippery hands though. After a few days use, my hair had adjusted well, but my scalp became a mess. My guess-tamation is that the products were not cleansing my skin properly which resulted in a ton of buildup. And then I started breaking out in cystic acne on my face, neck, ears (any place my hair brushed my skin). Ouch. I’m not sure what I might have reacted to or been allergic to, but this shampoo and conditioner didn’t work for me. It was truly a shame since my hair looked fabulous!! If you can find a trial size at your local salon and do not have sensitive skin, I would certainly give this line a shot.

Lancome High Resolution Eye with Collaser-48

    Fantastic treatment, sadly discontinued

I’m becoming quite the Lancome fan-girl. When I can afford it, that is. And with gas prices on this crazy trend, I’ve certainly been watching my pennies more and using that time to find more freebies. ;) I did give Lancome’s High Resolution Eye with Collaser-48™ a drive. It’s a “deep collagen anti-wrinkle serum”. Let’s get the easy stuff out of the way first: the packaging is sleek silver, very spa and very glam. This serum is in a little pump bottle (0.5 fl oz) so it stays sanitary and uncontaminated (LOVE that!). You apply this serum every night after cleansing and before bed. I have been testing it off and on (and been slacking on writing the review for some reason) for 3-4 months now. It’s really a superb product. The cream sinks in so quickly around my eyes. No stinging, no irritation. I wake up with firmer skin and less baggies. If you have thin skin and/or the beginnings of wrinkles around your eyes, I have no problems recommending this product for you. Lancome is reliable and actually does the research to back up their claims. Don’t expect overnight results (as with any serum- no matter *what* the ads may say…), but with continued use, you can certainly see improvement. Bionic thumbs up! Unfortunately this grand product has been discontinued (so I’m making my little tube count!). But Lancome’s released the next-generation with High Resolution Eye with Collaser 5X. Very similar product.

  • Lancome Resurface Microdermabrasion Body Polishing Treatment

Do You Want Ultra-Smooth Skin? I do! I do! And for extremely smooth skin all over my body, I’ve found my must-have item. Lancome’s Resurface Microdermabrasion for Body. The product is a cream filled to the max with high-grade Aluminum Oxide crystals which polish your body’s skin. I tested the product after regular soap, non-moisturizing body wash, and a moisturizing body wash- all with excellent results. The cream in Resurface seems to keep the exfoliating action from over-drying your body. I exfoliated my legs, arms, and chest. The aluminum crystals are small enough to not scratch or be too harsh. It was similar to using a light loofah on your skin. And it was an absolutely wonderful prep step for sunless tanner. I had zero streaking after using Resurface! We all think, research and test products for the best face skincare results, but often neglect to use the same care on our bodies. Lancome’s Resurface has me smooth and polished for the summer ahead. Without fail, my hubby comments on how soft my skin is after I use Resurface (yippee!). Highly recommended by Bionic!

  • Anastasia Eye Lights Matte Pencil

    Anastasia Eye Lights Matte Pencil

More than just for brow highlights!

Another nice pencil is the Eye Lights Matte. It’s basically the same wonderful pencil as the Shimmer above but in a matte formula. I have this pencil in Camille which is a soft baby pink (4 colors to choose from in this pencil). It’s perfect-o for a brow bone accent and dabbing in the corners of eyes (by your nose) for a pick-me-up. I also used it to line outside my lip line and it really made my lipstick pop. Gorgeous, super soft pencil. (Can you tell I adore how soft and gentle these pencils are?!?)

  • Anastasia 5-Element Brow Kit

    Anastasia 5-Element Brow Kit

Perfect kit to keep your brows in check

I recently had the chance to try out Anastasia’s brow care and grooming items. Seriously ladies, I had no idea there were so many accessories I could have been collecting for my brows. My brow care consists of once a week tweezing and daily brush with clear gel mascara to keep them looking pretty. I guess I’ve been blessed by good brows. To get started: the 5 piece brow kit contains brow gel, powder, tweezers, stencils and a duo brush (spooley on one end, angled brush on the other). The Anastasia brow gel is fabulous. It’s not sticky, keeps your brows groomed all day and doesn’t run into my eyes if I sweat. My next favorite product is the tweezers. They are absolutely amazing! I was using my mom’s old LaCrosse tweezers from the sixties (which I still love by the way) but these new ones made tweezing so quick and pain-free. They’re angled to help you get the exact hair to pluck. The brow shading powder (like eyeshadow for your brows) has 2 colors in the compact. One light and one dark, so you can blend your perfect brow color. Use the angled brush to fill in your brows. I only used this a bit, since my brows are pretty thick (although I noticed one spot that isn’t growing so well these past few years). The powder looked very natural, and didn’t scream “I FILLED IN MY BROWS!” which is why I’ve always shied away from brow powders. Finally the stencils. I was not a big fan since they were hard to hold for me and I couldn’t see (since I wear glasses) what I was doing. But… if you need to find your ideal brow shape, the stencils would make it much easier and totally remove the guess work. However, my brows are pretty well shaped (at least I think so /wink/).

  • Lancome Flash Bronzer

    Lancome Flash Bronzer

    Great streak free tan!

We’re heading into fall and if you’d like to preserve some of your summer glow (faux glow, I’m hoping!) check out Lancome’s Flash Bronzer “Glow n’ Wear”. I grabbed some earlier in the summer and am proud to report it didn’t turn my skin orange and with the proper preparation there was no streaking! Best of all, it dries so quickly! No more waiting around the house half-nekkid while your sunless tanner dries. The Flash Bronzer gives you the instant gratification of a bronzer while building up a sunless tan gradually. It’s packaged in a convenient pump dispenser which kept it from leaking all over my bathroom floor or cabinets. The formula itself is a gel. It does contain alcohol (which helps with the speedy drying time) so you may want to moisturize a few hours afterwards, but I didn’t feel it was an urgent necessity (meaning my legs weren’t itching and screaming for lotion). Just think how great your new fall clothes will look on a subtly-tan you!

  • Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil
    9.0

    Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil

    Soft, moisturizing, good wear

Released as part of NARS’ Summer 2008 collection, this lip pencil is a pretty pastel pink “Roman Holiday” (sells for $24). I love the chunky pencil and it goes on so smoothly if you weren’t looking you would certainly think this was a lipstick and not a pencil. There’s no pulling or tugging. The color didn’t bleed or feather and it’s so comfy to wear, and it lasted for hours. The formula contains added Vitamin E so you’re actually moisturizing your lips while coloring them (bonus!). While the pink is not my favorite color, I use it quite frequently for layering over top other lipsticks (helps lock the color on my lips) and underneath lip glosses to add depth. The stick itself is going to last me many seasons- I haven’t even put a dent in this pencil yet!! Another thing to note- this pencil travels well in your purse since it won’t leak (always a plus in my book). Overall, it’s a very handy product to stash in your bag (beach bag, travel bag, whatever) and the color is great for those with light skin. If you have darker skin or want more color, check out one of the other 16 colors (may I recommend the gorgeous Dolce Vite? It’s beeeeautiful!)

  • Nars Nail Polish
    7.0

    Nars Nail Polish

    Performs well, but pricey

This season fluorescent colors are the trend for fingers and toes. When I browse the beauty supply nail polish aisles, I have thoughts of 80’s pop princesses, bright surfer jams (remember those?), and jelly bracelets. Nail polish colors are shocking again. Neon pink, sun yellow, lime green, electric blue: all shades of the rainbow are accounted for. While many women are shy with their manicure color, toes have the obvious advantage of being below the typical “looking” range. And these bright colors beg to be shown off in sandals or bare against the sand- and they look even better with a faux tan! For a quick pick-me-up, I’m now sporting Schiap by NARS. This polish is part of their 2008 collection and fits the bold and bright nail trend to a T. Schiap is a “Shocking Pink” creme that shines like patent leather. I used 2 coats to get even and thorough coverage. The formula applied nicely and dried pretty darn quick. A clear top coat really made the color pop. The cost is a bit of a splurge, but you should get many, many, many applications out of this bottle.

  • Davines Alchemic Shampoo
    8.0

    Davines Alchemic Shampoo

    Perfect for colored hair!

My never ending quest to test shampoos and conditioners continues with Davines Alchemic System Shampoo and Conditioner for Natural and Coloured Hair. I have the Chocolate variety which is made for dark brown to black hair (my hair is currently medium brunette). There are varities for light brown, red, copper, blonde, and silver hair- so there’s something for everyone. I love the science and research behind this brand and it shows in the quality. Unlike most lines created for color specific hair, this one actually works. It keeps my color fresh and vibrant and the conditioner really leaves my hair soft. I experienced no build-up and the scent is different, but in a good way- it’s slightly woodsy. My only complaint is the glass packaging. It looks sleek and luxurious, but I am terrified I will drop it in the shower.
