    Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner

    Great alternative to liquid liner

I’ve always loved the look of liquid eyeliner, but never perfected it’s application well enough to use but only on special occasions. The look of this Gel Eyeliner was similar to a liquid, but looked slightly softer and didn’t require a super steady hand. The makeup artist showed me how to apply it with a tiny eyeliner brush and to make short steady strokes to achieve a natural looking line. She also chose the color Sepia Ink - a dark brown to go with my fairer skin and give me a natural look. I love using the little pot of gel eyeliner. Despite it’s small size, it could last for years! I’m still getting used to applying it and have made some mistakes, but it’s a lot easier to clean up a smudge with a q-tip than to have to remove the immediate permanence of liquid eyeliner and have to start from scratch. I definitely recommend using a clean tiny brush to help the application easier. You can also go with a thin line for day and add a little oomph to it for a more dramatic evening look.

  • Avon ULTRA COLOR RICH Lipstick

    Avon ULTRA COLOR RICH Lipstick

    Good old-fashioned lipstick

Thick, rich formula and heavily pigmented colors were a surprise. I’d gotten so used to lightweight glosses and sheer colors, that I’d forgot lipstick could be like this. And I was pleasantly surprised. While some of the darker shades looked better on me if I applied them a little more lightly or blotted, the colors generally looked very natural. The formula was rich and moisturizing and the color lasted a lot longer than any other lipstick I’ve tried lately.

  • Curel Hand & Cuticle Therapy Cream

I live in an arid climate, and the winters are especially dry! Dry cuticles and knuckles and a tendency to get more paper cuts are all signs that my hands are too dry. I’ve been keeping this cream and my desk to help remind me to use it and I’ve definitely noticed a reduction in paper cuts! This is a great desk lotion too, because it isn’t greasy. It’s hard to use a pen or even type sometimes after I’ve applied a thick, greasy hand cream. This stuff really is fast absorbing and works as well as a thicker cream, without the grease. It’s packed with great moisturizers: soy milk, monoi oil, coconut oil, sweet almond oil and vitamin E and has a very light, fresh scent. I’d love to find a smaller bottle to keep in my purse.

  • Biore Blemish Treating Astringent

    Biore Blemish Treating Astringent

    Strong but gentle toner

The Triple Action Astringent also has menthol and is cool on the skin. Despite claiming to be less over-drying as an astringent, the bottle still warns to start with a once daily use and build up from there so as not to over-dry. I found that the daily use was a little to intense for my skin and backed off to every other day - which seemed to work well for me.

  • Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser

    Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser

    Good cleanser for oily skin

It is a thick cleanser and a little goes a long way, since it lathers like crazy. It has a fresh smell of eucalyptus and mint. The menthol in it feels cool and tingly on the skin. The cleanser left my skin clean and free of oil, without leaving it dry.

  • Avon Personal Match Smooth Mineral Blush

I accidentally used to heavy a hand the first time I applied the Smooth Mineral Blush. I wiped some off and have since been sure to use a loose, large powder blush - taking extra care to tap off the excess - to apply it. I have fair skin, so I have to be careful about not using too much. The blush, like the eyeshadow, does a great job of lasting the day. It didn’t fade and had so natural a look that a co-worker said I looked like I’d gotten a tan. I think so too - in fact, I’ve been using the Golden Glow shade like a bronzer since it gives such natural looking color.

  • Avon PERSONAL MATCH Smooth Mineral Eyeshadow

The Smooth Mineral Eyeshadow wears great. The tiny little pot of loose powder was a bit tricky to get used to, but the results are great. This is one of the few eyeshadows I’ve used that hasn’t creased. It’s also oil free, so that may have something to do with it. Currently there are only 6 shades, but the Mineral Eyeshadow Shimmers coming out this month will add four shimmery shade options.

  • Avon PERSONAL MATCH Loose Powder

    Avon PERSONAL MATCH Loose Powder

    Great for oily skin

For my oily skin, I have to carefully check the ingredients to make sure it doesn’t contain any oil. Oil containing formulas might be great for dry skin, but they leave me shiny and some have made me breakout. Avon’s Personal Match Smooth Mineral Makeup is oil free and comes in 8 shades. If you have dry skin, you can use a moisturizer under your makeup. (Give it a few minutes to soak in before you apply the powder or it can get a bit pasty.) They also have 12 new shades coming out in May in their Ideal Shade line, which will contain light-adjusting pigments to help the makeup look natural in any light. If I could change one thing about this makeup, I’d give it an SPF. But you can always wear a sunscreen or a sunscreen containing lotion under the powder. Mineral makeup can be a little tricky to learn to apply. Loose powders, like Avon’s can take a little time to get used to. I recommend using a compact powder brush, not a big loose one, to help control the coverage.

  • Curel Life's Stages Skin Fortifying Moisture Lotion

My mom goes on and on about how soft this lotion leaves her skin and that it only needs to be applied once a day - a big accomplishment for living in the mountains, where the air is dry and fighting dry skin seems to be a never ending battle. She also liked that the formula that accomplished this hand a night light consistency, a light smell and wasn't at all greasy. A big difference from some of the heavy balms one uses in the winter to try to keep skin hydrated. Curél's Life’s Stages Skin Care for Menopause and Beyond lotion says that it not only hydrates, but helps improve skin elasticity as you age. The formula is also hypoallergenic and won't clog pores - making it a great one stop facial and body lotion. Like the other lotions in Curel's new line, this lotion is definitely a winner!

    Curel Foot Therapy

    Great, non-greasy, rich cream

Besides the fact that this product really lives up to its claims, I love that it has a nice light scent, isn't at all greasy and has a convenient flip-top lid. I've been keeping this cream on my night stand and applying it every night before bed, just like I do with hand cream and lip balm.
